Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom 1 Bath Private Oceanfront Cottage with Pier

North of the city, in the tranquil part of the Island, this cottage on 'Turtle Beach' is a wonderful place for your dream vacation. The Barrier Reef that shields the island is just off shore and provides calm waters for you to relax beside or to enjoy the many colorful species of fish just below the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. The water is very shallow and perfect for swimming in. Sit on the edge of our pier and soak up the calm beauty.

This unit is one of 2 onsite Cottages at Turtle Beach that share the property. This executive 1-bedroom Cottage, has its own wrap around porch perfect for lazing around and enjoying a morning coffee or a late afternoon nap (can accommodate up to 4 people). Or you may choose to kick it up a notch and explore all that beautiful Belize has to offer; including, but not limited to, snorkeling, diving the 'Blue Hole', fishing, exploring the many Maya Ruins, cave tubing, or zip lining through the jungle to name a few. We can help you arrange all tours in advance. Please let us know and we would be happy to help.

The cottage comes complete with 2 air conditioners (bedroom and living-room), 3 ceiling fans, queen bed with fresh linen, dresser, closet with hangers, security safe (large enough for iPads, 15 inch laptop computers etc.), modern style granite kitchen complete with stainless steel fridge and stove and drinking water cooler, dishes, utensils, pots and pans, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, living room with 40 inch flat screen TV, DVD player, sofa, (sofa bed will be supplied if there are additional guests), table, chairs and plenty of books to read. 10GB Smart Wi-Fi (nominal fee for minutes used) and a prepaid cellular phone (nominal fee). There is a modern indoor bathroom complete with sink, toilet, shower and hot and cold running water from our fresh water well. Also, the outside porch has plenty of seating for relaxation.

Things to know about where you are:

The distance from San Pedro Town to the cottages is 8 miles North (about a 3 hour romantic walk along the beach) a bike ride, or a short boat ride by water taxi. Turtle Beach has 2 bikes for free use, just ask the caretaker. Our water taxi service is called 'Coastal Express' and operates from 6am - 8:30pm daily. This is very convenient for those who wish to explore the city of San Pedro or tour the island. (Helpful tip – for those who want to go back and forth to the city everyday, consider purchasing a Golden Pass from Coastal Express which is good for 7 days). You can also get here by golf cart but the road is very bumpy so we do not recommend it.

Things to bring from home:

Swim trunks, flip fops, snorkel gear, suntan lotion, mosquito repellant and a care free relaxed attitude! Also for those avid fisherman, this is a great spot for fly fishing for Bonefish (Albula vulpes), Tarpon, and Permit fish (Trachinotus falcatus) right off the pier, so bring your gear.

When you arrive in San Pedro:

Your stay with us includes a meet and greet at the San Pedro Airport and we will guide you to your vacation cottage.

Things you may wish to purchase in San Pedro:

There are two restaurants in near-by resorts. One is a 10 minute walk South of your cottage and another is 15 minutes North of your cottage. We recommend that you bring or purchase groceries for at least 1 day after you arrive. The fresh fruit here is excellent and we highly recommend the Mango, Papaya, and Dragon Fruit. Note that you do not need to buy drinking water since we provide you with a 5 gallon jug of water which can be refilled for a small fee and there is filtered fresh well water available on site for showers and washing. If you contact Mata Grande Grocery via their website, you can purchase groceries and have them delivered for you to have waiting for you in your cottage. Note that most grocery stores in San Pedro are open until 6pm. Also note that fresh fish and lobster can be bought off our pier from the local fisherman (ask the caretaker if you wish to purchase some).

Notes about the on-site caretaker:

We have an on-site caretaker staying in another smaller cottage at the back of the property. He is your contact to help you with your questions and ensure that your stay is as enjoyable as possible. Be sure to ask him about his fire pit dinners (small fee). He is there for your security at night so feel free to contact him at any time. If you have a batch of laundry that needs cleaning be sure to contact your caretaker and he will arrange it with housekeeping. If you would like to purchase fresh fish from the local fisherman, ask him. If you are interested in taking a day trip somewhere be sure to ask him that too.

This peaceful property opens up to miles of beautiful white sand beach. The climate here is wonderful and the local Belizeans are warm and friendly people. We are certain you will enjoy your stay with us. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the island!

Please see other unit available:VRBO#505468 if you would like to have the other cottage as well.

Location Location Location

The location is stunning! If you do not mind a bit of work to get back and forth to anything, this place is wonderful. Nothing from here is convenient though. We feel the pros of this house is 1) location. The house is adorable and the dock is amazing. 2) Emillio, the grounds keeper. He was most helpful, nice, and not invasive. 3) watching all the amazing nature around us. We saw dolphins, sting rays, masses of fish all from the dock. Watched coconuts drop from the trees and collected shells. We felt the cons were 1) the bugs. Nothing that anyone can do about them but they are abundant and you should know that and come prepared. We didn't have a whole lot of trouble in the actual house. Obviously if you open the door a few will fly in and there's nothing to be done. 2) the bed and futon have a lot to be desired. The bed sinks in the middle and the futon in the living room is rock hard. 3) by far the worst part was the smell of the water within the house. Everyone is told not to drink the water here. However, no one would need to be told this once they smelled the water coming from the faucets. It has to be one of the worst things I've ever smelled. We have no idea what caused it and we did shower and was dishes in it, as we had no choice, and no one got sick or anything. Not sure if anything can even be done about it.

All in all, if you want to be away from everyone and don't mind a 40 minute golf cart ride to get to town, I recommend you stay at Turtle Beach.

Fantastic, amazing snorkeling and diving

  • 5 of 5

We went to Ambergris in Jan 2016. Coming from Calgary AB it was loong way down, but so worth the trip. It does take a whole day to get here so consider staying more than a week.

Brian (owner) had arranged for a taxi and then water taxi to get to our cottage. This was very helpful.

At the cottage our caretakers, Emilio and Becca made this one of our most memorable trips ever! They were available for 'stupid foreigner questions' and would help arrange water taxis when needed. The snorkelling is unbelievable about 3/4 of the way out to the break water. and it is PHENOMENAL. Just south of our pier is 'mexico rocks' which you have to pay for, but we had our own private mexico rocks! Tons of life and corals to see and explore, and NO CROWDS.

It would be better if Brian supplied kayaks at this location. We were able to borrow the neighbors for our excursions. Its not safe to swim all the way out as this is a high traffic area for the water taxis,

I think within the year the road will be much more drivable, as it was while we were there it was incredibly rough and unpleasant.

Overall wonderful place to stay, we loved the location as it was out of the touristy areas, but those areas where within easy water taxi or gold cart ride away. The bed was comfy and the kitchen was stocked with all the essentials.

IF you are bringing kids and are counting on the futon to be your second bed, it is truly horrible, we couldn't even sit on it without getting 'numb bum'. we ended up dragging in a cushion from the outside chair to make it more comfortable, on the 1 rainy day we had when we watched movies.

Otherwise it was great and YES we would return and stay with Emilio and Becca again!

Vacation Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Totally exceeded our expectations for a quiet and relaxing vacation. David , the caretaker , was instrumental in making us feel at home in a new environment. He was there for all our needs from tours, transportation, to an extra roll of toilet paper. Cannot say enough about David with his outgoing personality to his winning smile. We plan to go back next year, hopefully for 3 weeks. P .S. Great accommodations, and Brian was a wealth of travel information for a worry free trip.😀

Purple Cottage Nov 18 - Dec 1 2014

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just returned from 14 days at Turtle Beach. It was amazing. The house was great, the property and location was great, Belize was great. The owner of the property arranged a cab to meet us at the airport to take us to the water taxi ( only way to get to the house), which was great as it was late and dark and can be intimidating your first time anywhere new. The house was EXACTLY like the pictures, no surprises. Clean and in good repair with fresh paint.

The live on site caretaker David was extremely helpful and keeps the property clean and tidy.

Order all your food from Mata Grande for delivery, the prices on the website seem high but they are only slightly higher than the prices in town. The cost for the water taxi is $14 US each way into town, so for a couple to go in and come back with groceries would cost an additional $64 US on top of groceries, Mata Grande is way easier and generally cheaper unless you were planning on going into town alot anyways.

My wife dove the Blue Hole and had a great time, easy to find charters in town.

I highly recommend this property, well worth the price.

The PERFECT escape from it all!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from our fabulous one week stay at the beachfront cottage. We booked the trip to celebrate the upcoming birth of our first baby and were looking for a place to enjoy solitude, fishing and natural beauty. From the beginning, Brian (the owner) made it easy for us to plan the trip. He helped to coordinate our boat transfer (30 minute ride from town to the house) and answered many questions. Edrei, our house man, was responsive to all of our needs (big or small) and was an excellent host!

Tips:

1) Food - Definitely stock up on food when you first arrive in town. The house is fairly remote, and the nearest resort for meals is a 15 minute walk. I would also plan to bring coffee from home if you have a preferred type.

2) Bring your fishing rod - My husband is an avid fly fisherman and spent many days wading right outside of the property and casting.

3) Pack books and DVDs. The sun sets early and we enjoyed relaxing at night on the porch. There is a DVD player in case you want to watch movies, just bring them!

I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet vacation away from it all.

We loved this place!!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this cottage in Belize was amazing and we wanted to spread the word. The view from the cottage is crazy beautiful. I wish we could have stayed longer than the 5 days we were there.

Marlon met us at the airport and we stopped for groceries then took the coastal express up to the cottage where he introduced us to Adray the local caretaker. The place actually looks nicer in person than what you see in the pictures. It was very clean with fresh linens on the bed. The maid comes in a couple times during your stay if you want her to come in and clean up.

We spent a lot of time just hanging out on the dock and watching the waves. Adray managed to arrange use of the kayaks from next door and that was just wonderful. Paddling along the reef just off the shore and seeing all the fish was amazing on its own but then we went to SharkRay alley on a tour and it was incredible (highly recommended).

The water was incredibly clear, just like an aquarium. The reef that is farther out acts as a barrier and keeps the water from getting to wavy is what we were told. It really is like you see in those holiday pictures and I was quite pleasantly surprised it was as beautiful as I imagined it could be.

We kind of wish they had a larger coffee maker in the cottage since it only did about three cups and we like our morning jolts. And sometimes at night the mosquitoes were a bit of a pain but not too serious.

We are already talking about going back, and I can't wait! Next time I am going to force my husband to take 2 weeks (or more)... :-)

Anyway two thumbs up from both of us. You won't be disappointed with Belize or with this wonderful cottage (or the one next door which is identical).
