Relaxing retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Welshwood guest house! It was the perfect place to unplug, recharge, and connect with nature. Everyone (young baby and 13 year old dog included) enjoyed looking out the windows and taking in the view. We spent a lot of time watching the many birds and lizards out the windows!

When we arrived we emailed the owner, Julie, with a question about turning on the heat. She responded immediately and was even able to turn on the heat for us remotely.

We also had a lot of fun exploring the area. Lauren's in Boonvile was perfect for a family-friendly lunch and Hendy Woods State Park was fantastic for a stroll in the woods.

A couple things to keep in mind - the floors at Welshwood are all tile, which is great for cleaning and keeping cool, but could be tricky if you have young kids who are just starting to get the hang of crawling/walking. If traveling with a dog, they will definitely find the fenced property is an exciting place to explore...but there are a lot of tall grasses, so make sure to bring a brush!

Gorgeous, secluded property.

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful week here with our crawling toddler and dog. The house is beautiful and well appointed and the grounds make for fun hikes and chance encounters with deer and turkey. We didn't see another person the whole time.

It's a bit of a drive to Ukiah and we were glad to have stocked up for the week so we wouldn't have to jump back in the car.

Our dog was in heaven and it was so nice to be completely relaxed knowing the property was securely fenced.

The beds are soft, the bathtub is gigantic and really comfortable, the temperature of the house can be set very easily with the thermostat to a comfortable temperature. Sound travels quite freely through the house, so expect to hear your housemates in the other room, even if they are at opposite sides of the house.

We had a wonderful time and hope to be back soon! Thank you so much for being so dog and baby friendly, a rare find!

Solitude

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Julie,

Beautiful location, totally removed yet close enough to town if you need something. Acres and acres to roam (with or without a dog) I LOVE quiet and this is one of the first times I got the peace i crave, coming home to hustle and bustle was a little shocking.

Beds are medium soft and very comfortable.

Water pressure in either shower was terrible but the bathtub saved the day :)

Thank you for sharing :-)

Beautiful Location

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful spot above a small lake. The beds were very comfortable, the house is clean and modern. It is as pictured. The reason for 4 stars is that it is not a very comfy place to hang out in. There were 3 of us and there were only 2 comfy chairs. Really too bad there's not a couch. We also struggled with the hot water. No matter which way we tried it and how long it ran we couldn't get hot water in the kitchen or smaller bedroom. It is the country so I know not everything runs as efficiently as other places. It is a great location though and would recommend if you are looking for something simple and conveniant.

Owner's Response: Jenny, I'm sorry you had trouble with the water. We went up to check and found the hot water working just fine. The water pressure in the kitchen sink has been fixed. The internet was also working. I do have plans to put another chair in the house but a couch really wouldn't fit. I'm glad you like the setting and I hope you'll come back again.

Map

Car: necessary

Our bungalow is perfectly situated between the Alexander and the Anderson Valleys (about 125 miles from the Bay Area) for your wine tasting and hiking pleasure. Ukiah, about 4 miles away, is a town of many faces. There are several nice restaurants which you will find in our house book. There's an interesting museum and wine tasting down hwy 101. Over the hill in Boonville, via hwy 253, you can enjoy the Anderson Valley wine trail along hwy 123 or drive out to the coast through the redwoods. Lots of quaint shops, ceramic, antiques, hiking and more.
