A wonderful getaway, if you plan ahead
The house provided a marvelous place to stay. Étretat it’s a nice, small community on the coast. The house is away from the main part of town, up a small hill. You should be ready for a hike on your way back from town if you walk.The property appeared to us in the listing as a recently updated house. What we found was acquaint, older property. There are three floors, with the living area, kitchen and laundryon the first floor, main bedroom and bathroom on the second floor, and two bedrooms and a bath on the third floor. We primarily used the first and second floors and would’ve found regular climbing of stairs to be a chore after a while.What we didn’t know was that Etretat is a Mecca for French tourists, particularly at holiday time. We arrived on Friday of a four-day weekend and found hundreds of cars and thousands of tourists. The weather, the next day was rainy and so we encountered far fewer people in town. By Monday, it felt like we had it to ourselves. With better planning, we could have avoided the crush.
