The Neighborhood:
Tjørnuvík is one of the oldest settlements in the Faroe Islands, known for stunning sea views, hiking and viking history. The village faces the open sea and has the best surf beach on the islands. The black sand beach is less than a minute walk from the house. The mixture between the surf vibes and the old traditional houses makes the village very charming. There is a spectacular and well marked hiking path over the mountains to Saksun, one of the other must see places on the islands.
Getting Around:
A car is essential. The road into Tjørnuvík is narrow and winding, with a steep descent into the village and passing places rather than two lanes — drive slowly and yield uphill.
In the village Norðskáli, 20 minutes away, there are supermarkets, gas station and a shop that sells beer and wine. Tórshavn is 50 minutes away by car.
