Why Peter Perkins chose Grass Valley
Ten years ago Peter Perkins and Catherine Ione-Perkins came upon their present day home, the Casa del Campo--a diamond in the rough located at the end of a quiet country lane near Grass Valley, California. Comprised of a main house, a guest house and a variety of out buildings, set on several acres featuring open spaces and old growth forest, the property had the bones of greatness--it just needed some loving and purposeful attention. With the creative inspiration of a brilliant local craftsman, the willingness to learn and innovate, and no small amount of artistic vision on their part, Peter and Catherine undertook the process of transforming the houses and land, room by room, yard by yard, into a unique and exciting testimony to what is possible with sincere good intention. Still a work in progress, the Casa is a vibrant canvas, constantly evolving--a spiritual place of positive energy, a fun and relaxing place to rest and plan each day.

Perfect in every way
My husband and I made a visit to Grass Valley this past weekend for a wedding. Our first choice for a rental was not available, so we went with our second choice, Casa del Campo. How lucky we were the first place was booked! I can't imagine a more restful and welcoming place for our first (but hopefully not last) visit to the gold country. Peter and Catherine have thoughtfully furnished the casitas. Their suggestions for activities were spot on and very much appreciated. The extra treat of seeing Peter at work over the blacksmith fire at the Empire Mine State Historic Park was the highlight of our trip. We hope to see everyone (Boo and Marley included) again soon.
Beautiful and Peaceful!
All I can say is that this is an incredible place! Peter and Katherine could NOT have been any more amazing. They thought of absolutely everything! Unfortunately we were only there for one night, but you have everything you need for an extended stay. It is quiet, peaceful, extremely clean and beautiful! I would definitely give this 10 stars if I could! Also, Peter and Katherine are two of the nicest people I have ever met. They were so accommodating but certainly not intrusive. Also: Marley and Boo (the resident dogs) are the cutest little guys ever! So sweet! They will melt your heart. Their place is away from the hustle and bustle and so relaxing. Katherine is an artist and she has put her touch on this beautiful place! We just loved it! Thanks Peter, Katherine, Marley and Boo for a wonderful time. We can't wait to come back! :-)
Sincerely, Kent and Estelle Stone
The Complete Casita!
Really comfortable, well-thought-out casita, has everything, including comfort, quiet, and artistic design. Exceptionally well-maintained and safe as there's always someone present. Hosts are friendly and responsive, and there are two resident dogs, Boo and Marley, that add a lot of love to the experience. Beautiful country setting, close to grass valley (about 5 miles) so really convenient, relaxing and enjoyable.
A Gem in the Sierras
Peter and Katherine were great hosts. The accomodations well exceeded expectations and the rate was very reasonable. We're already planning a return trip with our kids. Thanks for the hospitality Peter and Katherine.
A truly relaxing, comfortable respite!
The Casa is great place to get away and enjoy nature in a beautiful, clean and guest house where all the little details have been meticulously and tastefully taken care of. Peter and Catherine are terrific hosts who will help you with a smile and a solution to your needs. The Casita Fresca where we stayed was spacious, the bed comfortable and all the descriptions very accurate. We will be back and would recommend to friends and family.
Not enough stars and I rarely write reviews
I rarely write reviews, but I am making an exception for Casa Del Campo. I am million mile club member of a major airline, so I have stayed in many places over the years. When other members of my family visit this area, this will be my first recommendation. I recommend Casa Del Campo for any individual or family.
For basics, I stayed at the Casita Fresca and it gets an 11 on a scale of 10 for cleaniness, spaciousness and comfort...and the grounds are delightful.
The host and hostess are warm and friendly, knowledgeable of the area, and happy to spend as much time with you as you want. They are extremely proud of the space they've created and it shows in every detail...including the artistic touches throughout the property.
I stayed only one night, but both Casita Fresca and Casita Mexica are suitable for much longer stays. They have full kitchens and dining spaces. The grounds are open to guests and there are plenty of places to relax with a cup of coffee or dessert after supper.
