The perfect wilderness retreat from Alaska families to world travelers.
King's Deer Lodge gives you the freedom to experience Alaska without the commercialized bustle of Denali Park central. Enjoy views of the Alaska Range from every window and embark on local adventures of every kind.
King's Deer Lodge is a beautiful log home situated on five wooded acres 9 miles from Denali National Park Road. 229 Parks Restaurant & Tavern and the Prey restaurant are within a mile and open during the summer season. Denali National Park has visitor services year round.
The main floor of the lodge is lighted by large picture windows and rustic stained glass lamps. The kitchen is equipped with double ovens and a large refrigerator. There are two dining tables and stoneware dishes and utensils for 12. A Natuzzi leather couch provides rest and relaxation while a large selection of DVDs is available for entertainment.
Upstairs is the family room and three bedrooms. The McKinley Suite consists of the spacious master bedroom with a king size bed, queen bed, private bathroom, and jetted tub. The Bush Pilot room is furnished with a Queen bed. The Bear room has a double bed. There is a shared bathroom down the hall with a shower and large vanity. Large groups may request additional mattresses and sleeping bags.
Guests at King's Deer Lodge are responsible for meals and general housekeeping during their stay. We recommend purchasing groceries before you come to Denali. Anchorage, Wasilla, or Three Bears at Talkeetna road junction have reasonable prices. Check-in is 4pm and check-out is 10am.
The garage is reserved storage and the use of the owners. Our family may access the garage during your stay. There is a large unfinished basement with a bathroom, 2 double beds and 4 twin beds.
***New October 2015. King's Deer Lodge is rented to one group at a time. Renting the McKinley and Northwest Suites separately has been discontinued.***

We had a wonderful time here! VERY spacious, warm, clean, and beautiful cabin! We will hopefully come back one day!!
Perfect weekend getaway
Stayed the weekend of February 23-25th. The property was PERFECT for a weekend getaway for my wife and I. It is great for the price given your location. Only communicated to owners through message, which I prefer anyway, but could have texted if necessary. Easy location to get to as long as you are paying attention.
There are three bedrooms upstairs; in the master there is a King size bed and a queen. Didn't use the other bedrooms, but I believe queen size beds in each ( I could be mistaken in this). Three total bathrooms, one in master suite, additional one upstairs, and one downstairs.
Radiant heating on the floors were great for our feet once we stepped through the Arctic entry. Side note - when in Alaska, take off your shoes before you leave the Arctic entry, so you don't damage or track in stuff all over the floors....there is a sign reminding you of this courtesy.
There is a television on the lower level with Playstation and also Netflix on all TV's. Guess what, you are in the middle of nowhere, so there's no Cable TV. What the heck are you looking at TV for anyway in Alaska! There are also TV's in all the bedrooms and in the common area upstairs. DVD supply is pretty good with several good titles, and DVD players in all the bedrooms. If you're tired and need to take a nap to recharge, there are some terrible Bush pilot videos which are perfect for that purpose, yet reasonably interesting and scenic before you get your Z's.
Kitchen has everything in terms of dishes and cookware. However, bring EVERYTHING food related with you from Anchorage or Wusssilla if you intend to cook. You'll get snacks and such at the gas station in Cantwell but it's not much. In the winter there's not much open. If you're a foodie, 229 Parks is located nearby. The Chef there was James Beard nominee and on Top Chef this season. They are open in winter, about the only thing nearby. Summertime there are a bunch of options near the park entrance.
Only two bad things. 1- Water. Deposits have stained the tub in the master bath, as well as the fridge water dispenser. Just lots of minerals. Bring your own drinking water and you're fine. Brushed teeth with it, no problem. Probably no hot tub for this reason. With a hot tub, they could charge $500 per night and get it. 2 - The car plug-in did not work despite my attempts to reset it. Tough when cold, but no big deal for us, didn't want to bother owner with it.
All in all - awesome!
Wonderful place to stay
We had a fantastic time! The cabin was gorgeous, spacious, clean, and comfortable and is located a very short drive from the Denali Park entrance. Highly recommended.
We want to come back next year
Beautiful views, ample space indoors, access to trails.
Amazing place to stay!
Gorgeous home, great hosts!
This home is large, well furnished, and very comfortable. We were three couples and we brought and cooked all of our meals. On the second night the grill ran out of propane but Jessica had us cooking again within 30 minutes. I was impressed with how responsive she was when we called. The home is just minutes away from the Denali Park entrance, clean, and can sleep many more than 6. We will stay there again if the need arises.
