2 Bedroom/1 Bath, sleeps 4 comfortably. Private porch and patio under evergreens
Our 'butterscotch' cottage is a peaceful hidden gem located in the heart of Asheville. Beautiful high ceilings and the original tall diamond-paned glass windows fill the historic 2-BR/1-Bath cottage with sunshine. Outside offers a lush evergreen private porch and patio. Driveway off-street parking space is tucked alongside the house in this safe and quiet neighborhood.
The house has new central heat and air, all new appliances, washer/dryer, side-by-side refrigerator, dishwasher, disposal, range, microwave, gas grill. There is outdoor lighting on the patio and exterior furniture for sitting or dining.
An historical 1911 cottage, it was once owned by the Thomas Wolfe family. The location is ideal for walking to downtown restaurants, grocery stores, night life, and shopping. Quiet brick sidewalks lined with honeysuckle and hollyhocks take you along a tranquil avenue to the vitality of Asheville’s cosmopolitan downtown – a 4-block walk -- see map in our photos.
While one is exploring the animated downtown another could play golf at the famous Victorian Grove Park Inn Golf Club less than 2 miles away– or fly fish in the idyllic mountain rivers within an hour’s drive.
We have greatly enjoyed sharing the open floor plan in the kitchen/dining/living area. The space is perfect for small dinner gatherings. We've loved sitting at the granite countertop sharing morning pastries from the nearby bakery.
There are two cheerful private bedrooms. The 'yellow' room has a queen-sized bed and the 'aqua' room has a daybed that makes into a king. Even the living room sofa makes into a double bed if needed.
Four to five people can easily gather around the heart of the house at the granite countertop for easy meals from Trader Joes or delivered from many top local restaurants by Valet Gourmet. But the grill and kitchen also allow you to cook for yourselves.
The completely private back patio has a gas grill. Sculptural barstools like those at the River Arts District make good perches for listening to birds while enjoying morning coffee or a cool drink in the shade at the outside bar.
Children are welcome and a dog will be considered.
The full kitchen is elegantly and functionally outfitted for enjoyment by our guests. There is a full bath with tub and shower. Mirrors in bedrooms allow a couple to share efficiently.
Hi-speed wireless internet/Cable TV.

About Richard Trombley
Richard and Bethany live part of the year in Austin Texas and as often as possible in Asheville.
Richard Trombley purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Richard Trombley chose Chestnut Hills
We like to be able to walk to dinner, the grocery, and around the neighborhood. We hardly ever use the car once we get to Asheville.
What makes this Cottage unique
We fell in love with the high ceilings, the beautiful updated kitchen, open floor plan, and the walking proximity to everything we like to do in Asheville.

Charming home in a great location
My husband and I and our black lab thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this charming home. It was the perfect size and the front porch and back patio are wonderful spaces. You can walk to restaurants, grocery stores, etc. and downtown if you are into walking longer distances. The house was very clean, well-stocked and has really nice art and antiques. If I were going to move to Asheville, I would want to live in this neighborhood!! We were disappointed that the house is rented thru early next year as we would have loved to come back this summer and/or fall.
Property was in a great location. Home was clean but needs some TLC. For example, mold around tub can easily be replaced with minimal effort. The guest instruction book was less than friendly, would have appreciated the Host’s recommendations for enjoying the city. The book was about the rules and what was expected at the end of the stay, e.g. take trash out, start dishwasher, etc.
Perfect in Every Way
The cottage provided me a retreat at the end of long days of yoga. Every aspect of the space made my stay perfect - one room dedicated to meditation, the well-equipped kitchen, the needed clothes washer and dryer, the comfortable living room, space to place my yoga mat, the quiet of the neighborhood, and the sun shining on the front porch. The owner's son was very responsive to a minor problem with the dryer duct. It was hard to pack up and leave as I had felt like I was at home.
Delightful but cold in winter
The Butterscotch Cottage is a charming place, perfect for the 2 of us for a month. It was great to be able to have friends stay with us in the extra bedroom for a night or 2 during our visit . The kitchen is well-equipped and we were able to cook everything we needed. The stacked washer/dryer was great to have! Lots of blankets and pillows were provided to make our stay cozy. The owner's son is nearby to quickly take care of minor problems. Our only issue was that the cottage is very cold during January--having high ceilings with vents in the ceiling is fine for AC in summer, but the heat stays near the ceiling and gets sucked up into the return vent during winter. When the heating system kicked in, we could feel cold air coming in through the windows. We were very glad to have brought warm house slippers and a heated mattress pad. The owner's son responded quickly to bring a space heater.
Otherwise, the location is great: we could walk to the Y and downtown. Good size, new appliances, well-equipped, well-stocked, excellent location, well-kept-up.
FIVE STAR!!! For the price, it’s the best!!
Can’t wait to return to this quaint cottage❤️!! It was just as described!!! Very clean and comfortable!! Quite neighborhood. We walked our dog and were able to walk to fast food restaurants!! Major grocery store was within walking too!!!!
Beautiful and Charming Asheville
Living in Jacksonville Florida all my life I found Asheville and the area charming. The little cottage is right in the middle of things on an ally rather than a street. It was comfortable, private and convenient to everything.
Hillside Park neighborhood is a 15-minute walk to the heart of downtown. An eclectic collection of southern mansions converted to B&Bs, arts and crafts bungalows with bright colors and decorations, and family homes with vegetable and flower gardens.
