About Jay Chavez

Captain Jay Chavez pictured off the Island of Kauai on the Pride of Aloha. Jay and Diane are long time residents of the Big Island and have raised two Sons in Waimea. The Big Island is a great place to enjoy the outdoors.

Jay Chavez purchased this chateau / country house in 2009

Why Jay Chavez chose Kamuela

The peaceful location in the center of town offers so many advantages. The location is perfect for long walks, convenience to shops and restaurants and has a relaxing vibe.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Waimea has a lot of micro climates and the dry side of Waimea is often desired. It frequently rains daily which keeps the hillsides green but there is a magical quality about watching the sky at night when the sun sets. The view is why we fell in love with this unique home.

Beautiful home in the mountains of the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

We fell in love with the Big Island, and being up in the mountains away (but still a very short drive) from the beaches and the coast was a great way to experience the place. Jay and his family were great hosts, very helpful and responsive, and even devoting a lot of time to helping us with some car troubles we had! We have three small kids and while we definitely had to keep an eye on our 20-month old with the porch and the wood-burning stove, it was plenty of space for us and the whole family loved it.

Captain's Quarters Best Vacation Stay in Kamuela!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, well-maintained, and clean vacation rental. Jay and Diane were very hospitable! They did their best to accommodate us. Quarters were very comfortable. Spectacular view of Mauna Kea, Kamuela, and the Kohala Coast! Jay and Diane did their best to ensure and respect our much needed privacy. Mahalo, Jay and Diane!!!

We absolutely loved staying here. The photos capture what a lovely place it is. It is that lovely in person- and better! Every morning we had breakfast on the deck and counted birds. The place is well stocked with all kitchen needs, there are videos to watch should you choose to have movie night (including kid ones- we watched Ice Age), and there is a washer and drier if you would like to wash clothes or towels. The tv/dvd is a bit challenging to set up, but the owner left instructions (and my husband is an engineer) so we got it working. There are also beach supplies such as sand castle making tools and boogie boards which we enjoyed and brought to the beach several times. The inside is quite spacious with THREE bedrooms. We will miss our time spent there and hope to return. It is a great place for adults and/or families with kids. Cannot recommend it highly enough!
