This is a cute house that's very close to a large park with lots of amenities (tennis courts, playground, skateboard park, paved walking path, duck ponds, etc.). The house is within a decent walking distance of downtown Deland which has lots of local restaurants and shops. The house could use another bathroom but there is lots of space for everyone. It was much better than staying in a hotel.

Thank you, we actually investigated putting in a second bath but it was not at all practical so we put in the extra vanity in the existing bath.
The house was very clean and organized inside. A short ride to main street Deland. The boat ramp is 15min away. The property is large enough to accommodate a midsize power boat. There are plenty of grocery stores nearby. Would definitely stay again.
Thanks

Awesome another boater to enjoy our great waterways! I hope you caught fish for dinner. The brand new local market is right up the street past the beautiful Earl Brown Park with its playgrounds, skate park and many festivals. Deland is a great weekend getaway from the big city when you just want to get back to nature or out on the water. With an award winning "downtown" you can still enjoy great restaurants and local shops.

Home Away from Home
The Cedar House was a home away from home for our two month stay in January and February. The house has lots of room and very comfortable. It was nice to have a place that welcomed our cat who travels with us. There is even a fenced in back yard. The owner was very helpful (only a phone call away) and there was even periodic outside lawn maintenance when windy conditions brought down a few small tree limbs, etc. Having wi-fi and a desk was wonderful and a washer and dryer inside was so convenient. The house was a great base for our many daytime birding/hiking activities and seeing the State parks as well as visits with friends in central Florida. DeLand is a lovely little town with lots going on -- great restaurants, shops and more. Do not miss the manatees at Blue Springs and check out the The Old House Cafe if you like home cooked food in a friendly antique home setting. This house and location is convenient and nearby to so much.

Thank you for the nice review. Deland is a beautiful small town that is 30 minutes away in any direction from something wonderful to experience. I'm glad you chose The Cedar House for your Winter get away this year. Thanks again for leaving the place so clean, I'll bet your house is always clean. Nice to meet you and your husband if your travels bring you back this way we would love to have you stay with us again.
The house and property was great. It's in the middle of town, but secluded. The large privacy fenced back yard was great. We'll definitely stay here again.

I hope you got to see the 4th of July party nearby at the Earl Brown Park with all the festivities, food trucks and fireworks. Cedar House is truly near everything but sitting on 3 + acres half of which is forested it does seem in the country. We put up that fence because we want our guests to be able to bring their four legged family members too. And it does let you enjoy the privacy outside.

Disappointed
I read all the reviews which were positive. Our stay was not a good experience. The worst part was the filthy floors. We kept our dogs crated because they licked the floors and furniture. Dead lovebugs under all the window air conditioner. Stained bathroom rugs. Dark rooms burned out light bulbs. The only time I’ve ever felt the need to check for bed bugs. None were found thank goodness. When you travel with dogs it’s not easy to just leave and find a different place. Won’t use Home Away again this property was not as it was represented.

The condition of this large 3 bedroom house was spotlessly clean other than dead Love bugs near the bedroom's window A/C units. Not dismissing this guest's "ick" factor, a normal reaction is to think bugs must be everywhere when you see unfamiliar bugs in a pile on light tile floors. However, that is not the case here. We have quality professional Pest Control services and the cleaning person swept the floors the day prior to check in. The notorious Love Bug Season in Florida lasts about two weeks each spring and again in late summer. They are completely harmless to people but hard on vehicles and they will make there way through A/C units. I have a central heat pump system for the whole house but found times when guests want there sleeping quarters cooler for sleep so I provide A/C window units in bedrooms. And Florida can get very hot stressing central units. We want all guests to sleep at their ideal temperature.
We should have inspected the morning of the guest stay in lieu of the day before. The guest could have called my cleaning person who is 6 blocks away and would have happily swept up the Love bugs. The other two points were valid but minor. The bath rugs did have a white bleach line and there were two light bulbs out unfortunately in the same bedroom. Again we would have gladly replaced those light bulbs.
This is a great property in an excellent location. I own and manage 7 HomeAway/VRBO listings in Deland. This is my only job and I take it very seriously. It is unfortunate that Love bugs tarnished this guest's experience, especially when it could have been fixed so easily. If you have any issue at any point during a stay in one of my properties please call me and allow me a chance to correct it before leaving me a 2 star review.

Thank you we are glad you had a nice vacation at the Cedar House. We installed the fencing around the backyard to give a safe place for kids and their pets to play. I hope you were able to also walk down two blocks to the huge Earl Brown Park to play and enjoy our Florida weather.

Location, location!
So close to the center of town but yet it is so private. The landscaping makes you feel you were out in the country. The young adults loved it because they could ride their bikes to town and they also spent a great deal of time walking in the nearby park. Great having the fenced yard for the dogs. The house was clean and had enough space for everybody to hang out. We enjoyed our stay at the house, that was reasonably priced.

The Cedar House is surprisingly roomy inside since it doesn't look like it when you first pull in. We fenced the side/back yard specially so our guests could bring their pets with them as we feel it just makes for a happier time when you don't have to board them back home. The nearby Earl Brown Park is large with a great skate park for the teenagers, playground for the younger kids and even ducks in the pond. It hosts large arts and crafts festivals every year and 4th of July festivals with music and food trucks. The walk from the Cedar House is a couple of blocks so it makes for an excellent way to get some exercise before going about your day in Deland. Summers in Florida can get very hot and steamy so we have installed window a/c units in the 3 bedrooms just to help keep you comfortable at night. There is Central a/c with the controls near the two rocking chairs. I mention it because sometimes guests see the window units and think that's all there is. Its a big house and 98 degree days are common in summer which can tax a whole house A/C unit. But please make sure to turn off window units when you leave.

Great location for Stetson visit
We recently came into town for Stetson's family weekend. The house is spacious, offering us plenty of room to relax. With three bedrooms it comfortably accommodated our group.
It is ideally located a few minutes from Stetson, which meant we had the luxury of easily coming and going from activities. We liked the fact it is in a private residential area, yet also close to the University, downtown Deland, and even a Wal-mart.

Good location.
This house is situated between Daytona Beach and Orlando Florida. We visited both places and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The house was great. The owner allowed us to bring our dogs with us because we evacuated from South Carolina due to hurricane Florence. He was very hospitable and we really enjoyed our stay.

Great little place!
We picked this house because it was 15mins away from the marina we where launching from, and it was great! Everything was fairly close to the house, the place was spacious, one of the ac had a bit of an issue cooling but no big deal the rest where nice and cold! Plenty of space in the front and very well cover as we did have a boat and 2 jet skies that we left un hooked while we explore the town and got some food and supplies. Overall it was a very good experience we where very happy and comfortable in the house!

Wow very good. We love it when people come to stay with a boat as there is plenty of room for that here and the St John's River provides all kinds of boating opportunities. We raised our kids skiing and fishing on the river. Come in early December sometime and join the Christmas Boat Parade. Also you just a 1/2 hour drive to the launch in New Smyrna Beach for salt water fishing or night shrimping. And we replaced that one a/c unit and the house also has the central unit but its a big house so we provide the window units for extra comfort.

We loved our stay at the Cedar House 👍🏻😀
So much we have rented it again in March and July of 2018. It is a very quiet area close to everything and Bill (the landlord) is hands on for whatever you need. It also has a fenced in yard if you travel with your pets like we do.
Great restaurants near by, beach’s are close
And shopping as well.
The home is very roomy..
His and her sinks in the bathroom
Nestle in the woods on two acres but yet on the edge of town.
Grocery store and Starbucks very close.
We loved it !!!

It looks smaller than it actually is. It is huge & so open inside.
Very roomy & homey. I was able to operate my power chair with no problems what so ever due to the openness inside. The master bedroom is super huge. The only thing is no bathroom in it but otherwise fantastic. It was back far enough from the main road that traffic really was no bother. The owner was very friendly and if something was called on it was taken care of right away. I would highly recommend this as a get-away place. It is in city but the way it is situated you would never know it!!

Nice Stay
Our 4 day stay was nice. The house is very clean and the washer and dryer came in handy, as we did not
have to bring a lot of clothes. It is nice to sit out on the sundeck, and the house is back from the street
giving us privacy. The rooms are spacious and that came in handy with my father who was in a wheel chair. I would definitely stay here again if I happen to be in Deland.

About Bill Watford
I am a native Floridian. There are a lot of nice cities in Florida and my two favorite small towns are Deland on the east side of the state and Cedar Key due west on the Gulf of Mexico.
I started buying houses to rent as an investment while I had a full time day job, my first in 1985 and I still own it - the Cedar House of Deland. My full time job today is managing the vacation rentals and short stay properties that I own.
I have several in Deland: The Units of the Deland Marigold, Grandma's Place, and The Cedar House. I also have two in Cedar Key: The TreeHouse and Goose Cove Cottage.
I enjoy what I do and am passionate about seeing that my guests have a great experience while staying in one of my properties.
Why they chose this property
This property is located only 10 blocks from the center of Deland, an historic town with a rich culture going back to the Mid 1800’s. It has been voted the Best Small Town in America several times. This property’s location is a block from the city tennis courts and Earl Brown park with a lake with lots of ducks. This is also the location for the annual arts and craft fair and the skate park. If you are here for a Stetson football or baseball game, you can walk to the game.
What makes this property unique
Two acres that seem to be in the country although you close to downtown and all of the activities there. With three super nice bedrooms, you have room for your whole family. The front porch is an awesome place to relax in the beautiful Florida weather. The owners, Bill & Erin really thought through what would make guests feel at home and designed this place around that.
