Come, Enjoy Cozumel with us!
The condo was in pristine and immaculate condition. The furnishings were nice and everything worked perfectly. Alex our consierge met us and advised us where to eat and what places to visit. The condo staff was always friendly and security took their job seriously. It was really nice to open the back yard door, walk a few steps, and be in your own private beach....There is a pier where you get picked up and dropped off for your activities. Highly recommended...the informational folder set up by Pawel was really nice also.
It was wonderfully quiet, with a great beach steps from the porch and pool. Dive boats, jet skis, beach club, come right up to where you are. Every one of the staff was very attentive and helpful, and made sure our stay was relaxing and we had everything we needed for an amazing stay. They even suggested fun or relaxation we didn't know about! The condo itself was very well taken care of and had everything we needed. Though it is farther from town, it's nice to have a quiet retreat from everything. Especially the day after the Ironman. Speaking of that, I wish I wasn't too sunburned to enjoy the massage service that comes to your room or can set up on the beach. Next time I'll get a massage for sure. Taxis are easy to get if you didn't rent a car like we did, or there is a short walk (5 minutes) north to a spot to rent scooters on the beach road, though I'm sure if I asked the entrance staff they would have had it brought right to the doorstep of our building.
We felt right at home in Casa Emila at Residencias Reef. As soon as we stepped out of the cab, someone that works on the property greeted us and showed us where the condo is located. It is a pretty large, gated complex with beautiful grounds, a couple of pools and right on the beach. The condo itself is tastefully decorated and the kitchen is fully equipped. One of the pools and the beach are steps away from the back porch. The porch has a nice jacuzzi tub and patio furniture. There is a pier close by that we walked to in the mornings for easy pick up and drop off on our dive trips. Carlos and Charlie's is also walking distance down the beach if you want to eat out and/or have a few drinks in a beach bar atmosphere. Downtown is about a 15 minute drive so you may want to consider a rental car if you plan on going out a lot. However, it would be very easy to spend your entire time at the complex. Especially if you stock the kitchen which I understand you can make arrangements with the property managers to take care of that in advance. I was happy to find that we had internet access about 95% of the time. Tips: Bring shampoo, conditioner and bath soap. There is a washer/dryer so if you think you'll do any laundry bring laundry detergent or pods. If you like cats bring cat food or plan to buy some when you get there. There are a couple roaming around, I am still crying over one that I became attached to. Consider taking a soft cooler and/or tervis type cups for drinks on the beach. Hubby says bring a bottle opener, he didn't like the one that was there.
Great lccation. Unit was lovely and clean. Easy drive to town and Caleta but arranged pick up on dock. Very quiet and private. Will be back for sure.
Casa Emila was good to us Apr 16 - 25 2015. I agree with everything the previous review stated. It is a nice and relaxing spot with a great property, pool, and beach. If you are looking to snorkel and eat some food you can take a short cab ride to Money Bar or Sky Reef ($10 -$15), good food and snorkeling. Future guests should note that the restaurants to the south on the beach, charlie's, beach club, etc. close at 4PM or before. So it is best to get there early to take some food back if you don't feel like cooking or going to town for dinner. The clubs to the north (Secrets and ?) Do not serve the public as they are all inclusive. Also note a cab ride to San Miguel downtown is $15-20 one way without tip. Still better than renting a car and driving here in my opinion. We will be back!
The unit was easy to find and the directions given worked fine. The unit lacked many basic kitchen esentials found in other units in this facility. The manager did not show up until the 3rd day and was unable to even replace a simple light bulb on that visit. The pool wi-fi password was nowhere to be found and we were not able to make local calls with the phone in the unit. The airconditioning unit in the living room was intollerably noisy. There seemed to be no way to get the fan to run at a steady pace. It sounded like an airplane trying to take off then stalling ad infinitum. Thanks goodness it wasn't too hot this week. The washer and dryer are so small as to only be able to wash a couple of items at one time. The refrigerator light doesn't work either. The basic Dish network service is not worth writing home about either. Really no channels worth watching and no way to get a decent movie. I was going to recomend it to a friend but I have to say I'll tell him to look at some of the others. There was no cleaning service until the 4th day as compared to the last unit I stayed in which had daily service. This is my 3rd consecutive year visiting Residencias Reef and over all sadly I'd say this unit needs quite alot of work.
My husband and I just returned from a week at Casa Emila. The unit was quiet, very clean and spacious and both the owner, Pawel, and the building manager, Alexandro, were very helpful both before and during our stay with arrangements for rental cars, chef services and so on. The grounds, the beach and the pools were all spotlessly clean. We loved the convenience of having laundry facilities in our unit as well as all of the kitchen necessities. There were several beach clubs next door where you can go parasailing, rent jet skis, etc so you have the option to be as active or as relaxed as you want. My only suggestions for improvement would be to include restaurant reviews for the beach clubs close to the condo. All of the restaurant recommendations were for places in town so if you don't want to drive to town, you just have to try your luck as only one beach club is listed on TripAdvisor. We also really wish there were grills for cooking - a grill would be a much better use of space on the patio than the Jacuzzi.
Cozumel is Mexico's largest island. It is 28 miles long by 9 miles wide and resides on the east side of Mexico in the Yucatan Peninsula. It is separated from the mainland by 12 miles of clear blue tropical ocean. You can get here by plane or ferry, or you can simply hop on one of the many cruise ships that frequent the island daily (though you'll only spend one day here if you choose the latter, and that would simply be a shame!).
Cozumel has an incredibly rich history. The Maya first settled the island over 2000 years ago, the Spanish put the island on the world map with their conquest of the Yucatan Peninsula in the 1500s, and Jacques Cousteau launched it into the stratosphere in the 1960s by describing to the world the richness of the underwater life in the coral reef surrounding the island.
Present day Cozumel is a mix of tourism brought to the island by the building of a cruise ship terminal in the early 1970s, the divers that continue to come to the island to frequent the reef system, the handful of foreigners who came to the island to open businesses (including us!), and of course the local residents who, as you will find out if you come, are the most wonderful, hospitable people in the Caribbean!
The island currently inhabits about 95,000 full-time residents, most of whom live in and around the main town of San Miguel.
The Cozumel Ironman is a new event for the island; it started in 2009. It's been a pretty huge deal for the island since it attracts nearly 2500 athletes and is only one of 24 Ironman qualifying races in the world. 2009 and 2010 went off without a hitch and so we're really looking forward to the event in 2013. It's fantastic to have so many dedicated athletes come to the island and enjoy it's beauty in a completely different way from the rest of us. After all, we don't typically get up at 7am and go for a 2.4 mile swim!
For the last three years, we had a number of athletes stay with us. Many stayed at two resorts in which we manage a number of condos and villas: Residencias Reef and Costa del Sol. Both places are really convenient for race participants and their families/friends: 1) they're right on the water 2) they're right on the bike/marathon course 3) most importantly, they're 10-15 min away from Chankanaab, the start of the race. So you get to stay in a beautiful comfortable place, away from the crowds that are staying at the big race-sponsored resorts, and still have the opportunity to jump in the water to practice, cruise the bike route, or check out the start beforehand.
Ruins of Cozumel
Perhaps during your stay or visit to Cozumel you can take a half-day trip to Cozumel's main Maya archeological site, San Gervasio. The site is located approximately in the center of the island just off of the Transversal, the road that takes you to the east side of the island. Though this ruin site is nowhere near the size or as impressive as the sites located on the mainland, it was once a very important site where Mayan woman paid tribute to the goddess of love & fertility. The site has bilingual guides, a snack bar as well as a gift shop. The entrance fee to San Gervasio is about $7USD.
