About this property

Ranch living close to the beach with Swimming Pool & Jacuzzi

The house is tucked in a Hidden Valley between Bel Air and Hope Ranch that accommodates 6 people comfortably. Down a majestic mature tree lined street, at the end of a Cul-de-sac next to an expansive green belt with lots of mature oak trees. Again you will feel like you are on a ranch but in the middle of Santa Barbara two miles from Arroyo Burro Beach, 4 miles from downtown. House is equipped with a Electric Vehicle charging station.

Our open floor plan features an entry hall and great-room with well lite two seating areas in the living room that opens up to the dining room and kitchen. The dining room seats 8 comfortably but in a pinch up to 10.

The bright kitchen overlooks the front yard and meadow and is complete with stone counters, a gas stove oven, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, espresso maker, garbage disposal, cold reverse osmosis filtered water and kitchen basics for cooking. The kitchen is stocked with cookware, small appliances, ice cream maker, waffle maker, serving ware, and glassware. A washer/dryer is included.

Double Glass doors lead you to a large patio with a teak table and umbrella that seats 8 and overlooks the never-ending back yard with mature oaks trees. Large custom eucalyptus and cider bencher provided ample seating. An outside blaze gas grill overlooks the meadow. … BBQ with a view. Next to the BBQ is seating for 8 adults with a gas fire pit that provides plenty of warmth without the smoke.

The dining room is next to the living room, which has two seating areas. There is a 65-inch TV.

The landscaping was completely redone two years ago by Isa Bird Landscape Design. A small dog would be considered and the yard is fully fenced. Open the back gate for a stroll onto an expansive meadow with oak trees. In the right side of the meadow is an organic farm and a year-round stream called Arroyo Burro Creek.

The pool is located just outside the living room, through a glass sliding door lined by black bamboo and tropical plants. The previous owner was in the pool business…it’s really spacious. 35ft x 20ft The deep end is 10 ft to 3 feet in the shallow end. Want to relax, jump into the poolside Jacuzzi surrounded by bamboo and palms with a view of oak trees and red tail hawks flying overhead. When you are done with the pool, electronically cover with a CoverPro pool-cover with a simple switch. The system is designed to give you peace of mind as it completely eliminates the danger for children & pets.

Two full bathrooms, one has a pink tub (came with the house) the other a shower. I will say, the bathrooms are a bit dated and are on the list to be remodeled, but are fully functional.

Extremely quiet with daily viewing of a variety of birds. The regular visitors are the red tail hawks, Tree Sparrows and Black Phoebes. We have also seen Band-tailed Pigeon, Anna's Hummingbird, Rufous/Allen's Hummingbird, Acorn & Downy Woodpecker, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, Oak Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch, House and Bewick's Wren, Western Bluebird, Swainson's Thrush, American Robin, European Starling, House and Purple Finch, Dark-eyed Junco, Song Sparrow, California and Spotted Towhee, Bullock's Oriole, Orange-crowned and Yellow-rumped Warbler, Wilson's Warbler, Black-headed Grosbeak, Scaly-breasted Munia, Blue & White herons and multiple other bird species. More info can be found here at under Arroyo Burro Creek.

Eilings park is 1.5 miles which host several activates. It is full of mountain bike and hiking trails, tennis courts, a BMX course, and athletic fields. La Cumbre Country Club and Santa Barbara Golf Club, and Hidden Oaks Golf Course are next to Hidden Valley Courthouse, other historic downtown sites, State Street restaurants & shopping, harbor, zoo, art museum, Natural History Museum & Planetarium, farmers markets are within biking distance or a five to ten-minute drive. Although you would never know it, we are less than 5 minutes from the freeway, which makes getting anywhere to the airport, other beaches, shopping centers, wine tasting, beach visits, UCSB, or City College extremely easy and quick.

We are also next to Arroyo Burro Beach. This off-leash beach in City of Santa Barbara is the beach that runs below the Douglas Family Preserve ( -- it begins east of the slough at Arroyo Burro Beach (the locals call it Hendry's Beach), and stretches almost to the steps at Mesa Lane. Hendry’s Beach the best beach in town several surf and diving spots. It also has the Boat House….make reservations in advances. The Blackberry Mai Tai with a perfect sunset will take your breath away.

Month rental comes with a gardener and cleaning twice a week, pool cleaning once.

A great stay!
Our family stayed at this property for a week and loved it. Proximity to State Street restaurants and activities, Hendry's Beach, hiking paths, etc was excellent. The property was just as described and Jethro was more than helpful during the booking process and kept in touch during our stay to ensure we had no issues. Overall it made our Santa Barbara vacation very enjoyable.

Comfortable and Convenient
Our family of six adults stayed at this property for 4 days the week before Christmas. The property was clean, well maintained, convenient and comfortable. The floor plan with open kitchen, dining room and kitchen, opening onto a patio and pool made for good flow and easy living. The master bedroom with its own bath was spacious very nice. The other two rooms were children's rooms and just adequate and had to share a bathroom accessible through a hallway. The kitchen is very spacious and well furnished with a good layout. The house has very nice landscaping and great privacy since it abuts on a large open area of fields and trees without nearby houses on that side which greatly adds to its appeal and charm. The outside jacuzzi is great and worked well. The pool was also appealing with an automatic cover. Unfortunately due to inclimate weather we did not use the pool in spite of heating it. There was a fair amount of rain which filled the cover with several inches of water. The location of the house is pretty good with easy access hiking trails, to the beach, and town as well as shopping and the highway. The house is located at the end of a dead end street so there is no traffic noise which is wonderful and the nights were very quiet. There were a few minor negatives such as lack of hair dryer, no bath towels, no toaster which the owner says will be rectified. The owner Jethro Acosta was personable and responsive and the directions for accessing and closing the house were clear and there were good recommendations for activities and restaurants included with information for the house. Overall we had a very good experience with no major negatives. We would recommend this property for a small group or family .

6/10 Okay

Property is amazing, owner is a poor host. Disappointing.
The property is really amazing. Its in one of the nicest locations I've seen in the area. The pictures do it justice. The pool shed was overrun with spiders and cobwebs, so no outdoor showering. Also the owner left only a handful of towels, and we didn't pack any, so we were doing a lot of drying of towels between swimming and bathing. The outdoor furniture is pretty old and rickety. One of the chairs actually broke while I was sitting on it. Fortunately I had purchased insurance, and so that paid for a replacement chair - but all of the furniture outside is pretty old. Ultimately I was very disappointed with the owners attitude to me after our visit. During our visit the pool filter stopped working and I had to call the pool service man to fix it since the water was getting quite cloudy. The pool guy fixed it, but after we left the owner told me he would withhold some of m my deposit because he blamed me for the filter stopping working. Apparently a small rock blocked it, and he accused me of "throwing rocks into the pool". His attitude to me was really quite surprising. So in the end, a nice trip was really spoiled by the parsimonious and petty attitude of the owner, which is a shame since the home is really beautiful in an amazing location.

Just wonderful
We booked this house late due a last minute change in plans and we could not have been happier. As the other reviews mentioned, the kitchen, dining, and family area were great for entertaining. We hosted a dinner for 12 one night and everyone had a wonderful time. The description should emphasize the location more, because the house is right next to a HUGE open space with trees and swings. The outside deck was perfect for our dinners. I'd say that the only thing lacking is the curb appeal of the house doesn't live up to the other parts, but that was never a big issue for us.
