St Matthias Lodge - Delightful 2 bed cottage

St Matthias Lodge is a unique cottage style property in the heart of Wellswood village.
The property has off road parking and consists of a master bedroom with kingsize bed, wardrobe, drawer storage and wash basin. The second bedroom is ideal for a child or granny and has a single bed, small chest of drawers and clothes hanging space. There is a kitchen/lounge area with breakfast bar, oven, hob, microwave, fridge, coffee machine and dishwasher. The lounge is tastefully decorated and has a wood burner for our guests use. A selection of books, dvds and board games are provided, Freeview TV is available alongside Free WiFi for our guests.
The luxury bathroom has a toilet, basin with shaver point, walk-in rainfall shower and full size bath. The property is fitted with carbon monoxide alarm and smoke detection. There is gas central heating throughout. We are able to provide a high chair and travel cot.
All bed linen, tea towels and bath towels are provided (please do not take our bath towels to the beach).We have decorated and furnished this property to a high standard and hope that you like it.

We love our new cottage to share with you. In recent years it has had a new driveway and a decking area with a motorised sun protection awning;

Please take care when driving in or out of the property - we recommend that you reverse into the driveway
The property is no smoking throughout and we do not accept dogs of any type (sorry but it was a hard decision we had to make)

The property was in a perfect location, close to all amenities and shops! The house was decorated in theme with Christmas and the host went above and beyond to make our stay over Christmas homely and festive. The property is well equipped with basic essentials such as tea, coffee and hairdryer. The kitchen facilities were very good and the coffee machine was a lovely touch. The log burner added extra cozy winter vibes and we really appreciated the Wood and Coal provided. The host was very attentive and easy to contact at all times whilst being very polite and helpful. I would 1000% stay here again and would recommend anyone considering staying here to do so!

Lovely stay at St Mathias Lodge in Torquay. We chose this location as our son lives nearby & it was perfect for visiting him. It’s about a 15-20 min walk down to Torquay harbour & is uphill on way back. The cottage has everything you need. A fully equipped kitchen, which we didn’t use as we are out everyday, but it’s perfectly good for cooking, it even has a dishwasher. Everything is spotless and the rooms are good sizes. It has a lovely lounge with a big TV and Sky and WiFi. The bathroom is lovely and modern, my only complaint about the bathroom is that the shower screen is only half size due to space limitations and you need to be really careful which way you point the shower head or the bathroom gets completely flooded! Also a mirror in the single bedroom would be a good addition as our daughter had to keep coming into our bedroom to look in the full length mirror. One could be screwed to the wall in the single room. The host, Claire is really friendly and helpful and answers messages very quickly, usually within the hour or sooner. We forgot some food and left it in the kitchen cupboard and she kindly got it from the next guests and arranged to meet my son to pass it over! She left us some treats in the way of scones and jam and chocolate and a lovely welcome note. The only thing you need to bring is beach towels if you want to visit the beach. Overall, we had a lovely stay and would stay again if our son is still living in the area. Thanks Claire for a lovely stay.

Fabulous Holiday Cottage

We had a wonderful stay in Torquay. Cottage was comfy, spotless and had had everything we needed in it. Welcome pack was much appreciated! Pub nearby did great food and there's shops and amenities very close by.Would highly recommend.

Perfect 1st holiday with granddaughter

Our stay at St Matthias Lodge was the first time we have taken our youngest granddaughter Daisy on holiday and it turned out to be a perfect 3 day break.Many thanks to hosts Claire & Tim who went out of their way to make it special for Daisy, there were child themed quilt covers, teddies beside the bed and toys for Daisy to play with. The lodge was clean, fully equipped with everything the 3 of us needed, clean towels, fresh bedding and the beds were comfortable. Fresh milk in the fridge, coffee etc and washing up products inc dishwasher tablets, tea towels and a welcome basket of scones & jam, and x2 chocolate for Daisy.The location was perfect for us, off street parking, easy walking distance to local pub as well other eateries, bakery/deli and a Co-Op store.Whilst we could hear people in the outdoor area of the pub when we had the windows open, it didn't cause us any grief or disturb our sleep. The lodge is a short car drive from Babbacombe model Village and a little further the Paignton steam railway & Torquay.If I had to be really picky, the only two things that I missed were a bath mat - for when you get out of the bath/shower( we used one of the hand towels for Daisy to stand on when getting her out of the bath and somewhere to hang the wet towels (if there was an airer I didn't find it) as we didn't want to hang them on the nice internal doors.All in all I wouldn't hesitate to come back again, Daisy is already asking when we can go back to our holiday home.

Perfect place to explore the area from

Lovely house in a great location. Really well equipped and perfectly clean. Excellent check in process and great communication all the way through our visit. Even had some welcome items and some kids toys which were very well received.

As a disabled person accommadation very easy to access.Good kitchen with all necessary equipement, easy access bathroom with shower, comfortable bed and plenty of storage. Off road parking.A home from home.Good communication and information.Highly recommended.

Very cute cottage

We overall enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It is comfortable and very clean and it was so pleasant to get a welcoming snacks and tea/coffee/milk upon arrival. Claire's communication was very responsive.However, I can't not mention the location next to the pub. The pub was literally next door, and Friday night was fine with some music and chatter happening which was not too much at all. On Saturday though, the pub turned on very loud music which kind of ruined our stay. The music stayed on until after 11PM. I came to Devon for relaxation and honestly it was not as relaxing as I was hoping for. Overall, if the music does not bother you, or you are planning to be out for a lot of time during the day, I can wholeheartedly recommend this place. But I would prefer to find a quieter location for my next trip to the coast.

Lovely small home. Well located

Excellent place, beautifully converted high quality. Everything you could need. Pub 30 seconds away, Italian 2 minutes. Easy Walking to Kent's cavern, and Ansteys beach . Buses to town or 25 min walk. And they put up a tree for us.

Excellent property

This is our second stay in this excellent, comfortable property. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble furnishing the cottage to the highest of standards.... every comfort has been thought of and levels of cleanliness are high. It doesn't matter what type of weather is going on outside, the cottage is still lovely and warm. We will definitely be back.

Weekend Away

Great for bus stop to Torquay or Dawlish, shops round the corner. Feels like home, lots of stuff in the house, books, maps & plenty of kitchen items. Only negative was the light coming into the main bedroom at night...but then thats me!

Lovely cottage in a very good location

We had a great stay in this cottage. Very well equipped, convenient location. Walking distance to harbour but also close to a bus stop. Small selection of amenities within few minutes walk on a local high street. Parking space definitely a bonus. Would stay in the cottage again if coming to the area in future.

Anniversary break

This cottage is one of the best equipped holiday homes we have stayed in. It was a comfortable home from home. The cottage is close to local shops and restaurants, as well the bus stop for the short ride to the harbour and shopping area. We would highly recommend this cottage for anyone visiting the Torquay area.

A great place

St Mathias Lodge is just perfect - cosy, so well equipped and in a great location to explore the Devon Riviera. There is so much to see and do within easy reach. Bus services are excellent. There’s a good selection of local shops just around the corner.

We both loved Devon as children and made the move over 10 years ago to the English Riveria. We have brought our children up in Torquay enjoying the local beaches and facilities and we both work locally. Claire is self employed and supports others in building their businesses. She also runs well being sessions for local businesses and groups. Tim has supported young people in the local secondary schools runs and currently runs projects, events and training for a local youth charity. Over the years we have made good use of the water and other sports facilities in Torbay, loving the Red Arrow visits to the Bay and Tim has walked the Two Moors Way in Dartmoor. We live close by, which is why we knew what a great property the lodge is and the easy access to exploring the local area and beyond.

We’ve lived and enjoyed the area for years so when the opportunity came up to get this unique property near us, we jumped at the chance. We fell in love with St Matthias Lodge immediately, in a beautiful area we know well and extremely close to the well loved Kents pub and Me and Mrs Jones cafe. The shops at Wellswood are a couple minutes walk away and it’s within easy walks of Kents Cavern, St Matthias Church and Meadfoot Beach. The bowling green, and tennis courts are located in Cary Park in Babbacombe. For the less active a stroll to the end of the road and you can step straight onto the bus and down to the harbour with the Princess Theatre, shops and host of restaurants and cafes or in the other direction, to Babbacombe, St Marychurch, Shaldon and Teignmouth. The choice of immediate restaurants, tea rooms and coffee shops too makes Wellswood a great base from which to enjoy your Devon holiday.
