About Tessa Smith
I am a retired head teacher with a passion for walking in Devon. This is a beautiful county and I am constantly amazed at its beauty: picturesque villages, stunning coastal scenery and the raw, unspoilt drama of Dartmoor and Exmoor: Heaven! I grew up and spent my first half century in the lovely cathedral city of Lincoln, where I have another lovely cottage which I cannot bear to part with even though it is a five hour journey from Devon. Husband Bev is a retired Chartered Builder who is great at helping me maintain things in good order!
Tessa Smith purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Tessa Smith chose Babbacombe
It has a great feel to it. I only buy houses I could happily live in myself. This one spoke to me immediately and it has an added bonus of a stairlift which I was advised to take out but I felt it was going to be useful to someone so I kept it! The main bedroom is really a lovely room, quite romantic I feel! I like the garden and you cannot sit there without the locals opening up a conversation. I also enjoy the family of sparrows who love it too.
What makes this Cottage unique
It is a very pretty terrace of cottages. I think the location is brilliant as there is something for everyone. The Cary Arms down the hill (it's very steep!) is a gem and early morning you may find a seal looking for a handout. The walking around the coast path is fantastic but you are close to the bustling Torquay Harbour. There really is lots to do: grab a ferry to Brixham or better still, go in the evening and watch the trawlers bring in the catch before you eat the best fish and chips ever at Rockfish. Actually if you are feeling lazy just buy them round the corner at Hanburys and enjoy in front of the telly at the cottage! By the way, my daughter tells me to add this is a great spot for Pokemon hunters! There are several Pokemon hiding on nearby Babbacombe Downs as well as at the top of the funicular. You will find several Pokestops at the end of the road near Babbacombe Theatre. Head into town for a wider range of Pokemon - the harbour along to the seafront by Torre Sands is a particularly rich spot to pick up water-dwelling Pokemon including Goldeens and Magikarp.
