Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 sunroom, loft area (sleeps 6), 1 Bathroom - Located in Decorah

The cabin is located roughly 5 minutes from downtown Decorah. The private yard and minimally traveled road makes the cabin close enough to downtown to enjoy local shops, restaurants, trails and streams, yet just far enough away to have campfires, yard games and more. McCaffery's Dolce Vita restaurant is also located within walking distance to the home as well as the Trout Run Trail, Pulpit Rock Campground, Twin Springs Park and the Upper Iowa River.

The home features a large covered porch with lots of seating, a grill and ceiling fan. It is a great gathering place in the mornings and late evenings for many guests. Lots of cards games and cups of coffee are typically held in this area!

The main level of the home has two private bedrooms, each with a queen bed, dresser and nightstands. There is a large open kitchen and living-room on the main floor with all the space to entertain while cooking and enjoying each other's company. The private sunroom is a quiet space to read or watch a movie. It features a pull-out couch for extra guests. The large bathroom contains a clawfoot tub, washer/dryer and sauna!

The upper level of the cabin is an open loft concept, housing two queen beds, two twin beds and two dressers.

The roundhouse or earth-home concept in carried throughout the home with its refurbished materials and natural woods and stones, its definitely something to see! The home naturally stays cool in the hot summer days and warm/cozy during the winter months. The gas fireplace is definitely a crowd favorite, warming the large living-room and kitchen area with ease. A well-known artist and former Luther Professor, Doug Eckheart, occasionally visits his studio, located near the property. Be sure to say hello and ask for a tour!

Decorah and Northeast Iowa have much to offer. Some of the best trout fishing in the state of Iowa is just down the road. Turkey, deer, and the occasional pheasant are popular hunting attractions in the area. The Upper Iowa River is nearby and offers fishing for many species. During the summer months kayaking, canoeing, and tubing the Upper Iowa is incredible and we can nearly guarantee a bald eagle siting!!

Decorah attractions include the Porter House Museum, Luther College campus, Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, Steyer Opera House, Decorah's Fish Hatchery, Malanaphy Springs, and Decorah's Historic Architecture Tour. The newly completed 14 mile bike trail circumnavigates the entire community!

Check out the Fort Atkinson Preserve, Bily Clocks Museum, Seed Savers Exchange/Heritage Farm, the Winneshiek Wildberry Winery or the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Burr Oak, IA.

This cabin is non-smoking.

About Stephanie Fromm

Zach and Stephanie Fromm, both graduates of Decorah High School, loved growing up in this scenic part of Iowa. They've enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, fishing, biking, camping and hiking in the Decorah area – Their passion for the outdoors is pretty obvious when you set your eyes on this beautiful cabin, located just past Twin Springs Park.

After taking ownership of Twin Springs Lodge in late November, 2014, they were off and running with ideas on how they wanted to share their 'home away from home' and give families the opportunity to adventure, relax and enjoy Northeast Iowa's 'Driftless' Region.

Any and all feedback is welcome! Your opinions matter to us, and we'd love to hear how your stay was or how we can make it better!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My boyfriend and I came up for a four day weekend and needed just a lovely night away. This place is amazing! We are considering moving to Decorah and this helped make our decision easier! Love the people here and the atmosphere. Thank you Stephanie for the last minute yes!

Great Family Stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed two nights with our kids and grandkids. The lodge is in a great location. It's private yet only a 5 minute drive into Decorah. The lodge is well equipped..all you need to bring is your food. We especially enjoyed the covered porch and the campfire. The cousins had a blast exploring and playing games in the nice flat area in front of the lodge. Its a great place to host a family reunion. Thanks Fromm's!

The cabin is beautiful and so roomy just the right place for our grandchildren.

  • 5 of 5

The property owners take pride in their property. The cabin was immaculate. All 6 beds were comfortable - like they were new. Grandpa and Grandma took 4 of our older grandchildren ages 5 to 9 for a week away. By day 2 they were already saying, "when we come back next year." The kids thought of the upstairs as their own tree house.

The area has so much to do if you love fishing and hiking. The fish hatchery was a great place for trout fishing. The famous Decorah bald eagle nest is a must see. We spent one day at Effigy Mounds hiking. The Laura Ingalls Wilder house at Burr Oak was a must see for our 8 year granddaughter who is just reading the series.

We will definitely be back!

Nice, quiet, comfortable home!

It was very nice. We were able to sit outside even with some rain. Only suggestion would be a shelf or something in the shower to put shampoos, ect. on

All the comforts of home in a peaceful and scenic setting. Highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5

This is my second stay at Twin Springs Lodge. It is equally as comfortable and beautiful in the winter as well as spring. In December we awoke to a a fresh, beautiful snowfall. In May, we awoke to the singing of birds and the blossoming of trees and flowers. It has become a great meeting place for Luther alum, easily accessible to the Luther campus and downtown Decorah. There is lovely hiking nearby and a restaurant across the street. We look forward to our next visit to the Lodge!
