Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 sunroom, loft area (sleeps 6), 1 Bathroom - Located in Decorah

The cabin is located roughly 5 minutes from downtown Decorah. The private yard and minimally traveled road makes the cabin close enough to downtown to enjoy local shops, restaurants, trails and streams, yet just far enough away to have campfires, yard games and more. McCaffery's Dolce Vita restaurant is also located within walking distance to the home as well as the Trout Run Trail, Pulpit Rock Campground, Twin Springs Park and the Upper Iowa River.

The home features a large covered porch with lots of seating, a grill and ceiling fan. It is a great gathering place in the mornings and late evenings for many guests. Lots of cards games and cups of coffee are typically held in this area!

The main level of the home has two private bedrooms, each with a queen bed, dresser and nightstands. There is a large open kitchen and living-room on the main floor with all the space to entertain while cooking and enjoying each other's company. The private sunroom is a quiet space to read or watch a movie. It features a pull-out couch for extra guests. The large bathroom contains a clawfoot tub, washer/dryer and sauna!

The upper level of the cabin is an open loft concept, housing two queen beds, two twin beds and two dressers.

The roundhouse or earth-home concept in carried throughout the home with its refurbished materials and natural woods and stones, its definitely something to see! The home naturally stays cool in the hot summer days and warm/cozy during the winter months. The gas fireplace is definitely a crowd favorite, warming the large living-room and kitchen area with ease. A well-known artist and former Luther Professor, Doug Eckheart, occasionally visits his studio, located near the property. Be sure to say hello and ask for a tour!

Decorah and Northeast Iowa have much to offer. Some of the best trout fishing in the state of Iowa is just down the road. Turkey, deer, and the occasional pheasant are popular hunting attractions in the area. The Upper Iowa River is nearby and offers fishing for many species. During the summer months kayaking, canoeing, and tubing the Upper Iowa is incredible and we can nearly guarantee a bald eagle siting!!

Decorah attractions include the Porter House Museum, Luther College campus, Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, Steyer Opera House, Decorah's Fish Hatchery, Malanaphy Springs, and Decorah's Historic Architecture Tour. The newly completed 14 mile bike trail circumnavigates the entire community!

Check out the Fort Atkinson Preserve, Bily Clocks Museum, Seed Savers Exchange/Heritage Farm, the Winneshiek Wildberry Winery or the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Burr Oak, IA.

This cabin is non-smoking.

About Stephanie Fromm

Zach and Stephanie Fromm, both graduates of Decorah High School, loved growing up in this scenic part of Iowa. They've enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, fishing, biking, camping and hiking in the Decorah area – Their passion for the outdoors is pretty obvious when you set your eyes on this beautiful cabin, located just past Twin Springs Park.

After taking ownership of Twin Springs Lodge in late November, 2014, they were off and running with ideas on how they wanted to share their 'home away from home' and give families the opportunity to adventure, relax and enjoy Northeast Iowa's 'Driftless' Region.

Any and all feedback is welcome! Your opinions matter to us, and we'd love to hear how your stay was or how we can make it better!

My boyfriend and I came up for a four day weekend and needed just a lovely night away. This place is amazing! We are considering moving to Decorah and this helped make our decision easier! Love the people here and the atmosphere. Thank you Stephanie for the last minute yes!

All I can say about Twin Springs Lodge is " WOW "...

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Twin Springs Lodge June13-15th. There were 7 Girls/Ladies that decided to do the Waterfall Tour around Iowa. Instead of rushing we chose to spend the night in Decorah.

A friend told me about Airbnb for an upcoming trip to Kansas Speedway in October, so why not look into Decorah. I automatically Fell in Love with the house but it was a 2 day minimum stay and we were only staying 1 night. After many Email back to Stephanie ( who by the way is Fantastic to work with, she had every answer I was wanting and then some ) she said you know maybe you should take an extra day and just come and relax before you do your trip. It was great, it all worked out for everyone going, and So Thankful we took her advise.

So we spent most of the evening at the Lodge on Wednesday night and ate dinner just across the Gravel Road from the Lodge at McCaffrey's. Wonderful place to eat and excellent care and service with Huge portions. We all sat around on the patio just Loving life and talking about everything..but most of all talking about not wanting to leave already on Friday morning. The inside is so " Homie " I would stay in the Lodge with 2 people or even myself or a Group again. So much room, So much like a home, So relaxing, I just cannot say enough of how I could live there forever other then it does get dark at night.

The Bedroom up in the top part of the house just made me want to all sit around on the beds and play Truth or Dare .. Or the clapping games that us Girls always played. I even threatened the Peanut Butter trick to the 1st person that fell asleep, that is how you feel when you experience this pure enjoyment. I will go back as soon as I can figure out when works for me.

Stephanie you and your husbands Wedding picture in the entry way just said loud and clear " WELCOME TO OUR HOME ". You are a Wonderful person to work with, I am sorry that we did not personally meet, but I will HIGHLY recommend this facility to anyone. Thank you for making our Girls Retreat a absolute Blessing to just be ourselves and forget about everything. I did Cry when it was time to leave because I had to go back to Reality...and you did not feel any Stress of the everyday while you were there...To Twin Springs Lodge ... 2 Thumbs up or 5++++ Stars. Take the time and stay, you will not be sorry..Ronda Greenfield - Des Moines Iowa

The loft and honeycomb main floor make for a unique and flexible space.

  • 4 of 5

Decorah was a great destination for our weekend getaway and the lodge was perfect for our two families. The deck is a highlight as is the loft. We enjoyed the sauna even though there was no snowbank to jump into (since it was August). My only hesitation was during booking. The extra $$ for more than 6 people, made this an expensive choice for our group of 8.

Convenient quiet location

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our time together at the Twin Springs Lodge. It was comfortable for the six of us and we liked having a living room to hang out in the evenings. There is just one bathroom but everyone was respectful of their time and we made it work. We had easy access to Decorah where there is so much to see and do. Thank you for our stay! We would stay there again!
