About Garrett

I restore Historic homes professionally and this is a cool one. I like traveling and spending time with my son Gunnar. I have traveled to over 20 countries so far and love share our house when we are not home enjoying it. We have learned a lot about hospitality on the road and hope it shows with our attention to detail in the set up and details of this old house.

Garrett purchased this house in 2005

Why Garrett chose East Haven

It is a unique location and amazing old house if you are not from the area. It is very "Old Florida" With some original classic architecture. The renovation is ongoing on the exterior so you may see me out there. I will work with you if you plan to be home during the day.

Lovely Vintage Home

  • 5 of 5

I had a lovely visit to New Haven in this home! The house is beautiful and the neighborhood was easy to access from the center of New Haven. The new house manager was terrific and both she and Garrett were extremely responsive. This would be a great place for a family to stay!

Beautifully remodeled home with river views

  • 4 of 5

Recently stayed for a friend's wedding on the beach with friends I've known almost my whole life.

The house itself is lovely and wonderfully remodeled. The upper two floors (2nd and 3rd) are yours during your stay. The house is spacious and quiet.

The area you drive through to park your car feels very sketchy, even compared with the rest of New Haven. Everyone in my group felt the same way. That being said, we had no issues.

Lack of central air conditioning makes hot summer days uncomfortable, but I don't think it's unique to this house.

The kitchen is adequately stocked, but missing some staples. Shopping is relatively close by.

Nice large dining room table with plenty of seating on the main level. The master bedroom is enormous. During the summer, the skylights let in a lot of light and heat.

Bathrooms upstairs are not really private, which could be an issue for some guests.

We had a dog, but dogs aren't allowed to pee in the yard.

This is the first rental I've ever encountered where the owner required submission of IDs for all guests, which I thought to be strange.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your honest review, I'm glad you enjoyed the house. For future guests - We have since installed a new HVAC Central Air system. We have also left the original 3rd floor window unit in place just in case you want it super cold;) The sketchy vibe behind the house was due to the 2 houses the the city of New Haven purchased a while ago to expand the school lot and left them abandoned for far too long despite our efforts. The good news is, they have finally been torn down and a nice new parking lot. Since we have owned the home there have not been any issues with crime. We provide starter supplies like light snacks and coffee as well as pots, pans, dishes and cutlery for 10, serving trays, pitchers, baking pans, blender, juicer, microwave, food processor, coffee maker, french press, toaster, cooler, BBQ utensils for the grill, outdoor plates and cups, wine glasses and just about any other kitchen item needed. If you require something specific not listed, let us know and we will point you to it or get it for you. We will do our best to ensure your stay is a great one and will address any concerns promptly. We want you to love and enjoy our home as much as we do.

Great Home for Families

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in New Haven as an extension to a trip to NYC. This historic home was perfect for a family of five (2 adults, 2 teenagers, and a toddler). It's location offers a beautiful view of the river where we enjoyed watching the sunset each evening. The house is very clean and well stocked with essentials such as towels, toiletries, paper goods, etc. Garrett and his family did an amazing job of providing modern accommodations while preserving the historic significance of this beautiful home. I greatly appreciate the eye for detail on making us feel welcome and comfortable. It's great knowing that the house manager is located on the property if needed. Thank you, Garrett and your family, for sharing this beautiful home.

Perfect Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here w some coworkers, touring through New Haven with a Broadway tour. Garrett and his family could not have been more accommodating, and welcoming. The house is beautiful and the view is gorgeous. Located a quick 10 mins from downtown New Haven, the location is super convenient. The steam room, hot tub and grill in the nicely sized backyard are all amazing bonuses. The neighbor even called and was incredibly warm and welcoming as well. I recommend this house for anyone looking for a quiet getaway or coming to town for work. Thank you Garrett!

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure having you and your group, I am so glad we were able to meet in person before I left town. Sara (our house manager) said you were perfect guests and very fun to have around. We hope the rest of your tour went well and look forward to seeing you next time.

Car: recommended

With a car you can get almost anywhere in CT within an hour. But just a short distance from the house are many things as well. Walking, mountain biking in Fairmount Park is nice most of the year. Walking down Quinnipiac Ave Historic District, Historic Grand Ave give you the local flavor and great tacos, if you are up for an mini adventure. Also the D bus connects you to downtown and Yale.

7 minute taxi ride has you at Union Train Station and you can head to NYC every hour on the hour. Amtrak to Boston, Shoreline, Providence and Newport are all within a few hours driving or train.
