Carmagnac is an apartment with Air Conditioning throughout (heating and cooling) with hot tub, BBQ and dining area we offer to ultimate getaway in the Summer and Winter.

Carmagnac has a large bed/sitting room with a TV, full AC (Cooling and Heating), high speed WiFi and fitted kitchen with a large centre island.

A private 5 person hot tub with amazing views and Amazon Speaker and high speed WiFi and subtle lighting.

Idyllic family getaway

Richard and Jane were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The vacation house is set in wonderful surroundings—very idyllic and perfect for relaxing with the kids. We especially enjoyed the pool area and the convenient kitchen by the pool, making it easy to unwind and enjoy family meals. Would definitely recommend this place for a peaceful and family-friendly retreat.

undoubtedly, this was one of the nicest, most relaxing Holidays we have ever had as Family. The house is simply stunning and beautifully maintained, as is the pool. Fantastic location for a family holiday.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks in this beautiful and extremely well equipped house in this quiet out of the way location. We were welcomed by Jane who showed us how everything worked and when we did have a minor problem with the pool, it was quickly resolved by Angi. While the house is secluded, it's just a 10 minute drive from the nearest supermarket, restaurant and cafes - but having a car is absolutely essential. We visited a number of other locations during our stay which while not local (Bordeaux & Lascaux Cave among others) were not too far away (each within about 1.45hrs). I'd certainly stay here again - we had everything we needed and wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend the place to anyone looking to get away from it all.

Beautiful home, immaculately presented, everything we could have wished for.

Fabulous house in a beautiful setting. We had a very relaxing two weeks, made the most of the pool (salt water was great, much better than the usual chemicals) and table tennis table, and enjoyed pottering around the charming village of Villebois. The kitchen in Carmagnac is very well equipped - probably the best we’ve ever had in a rented property - and we all appreciated the air con during unusually hot weather. Our two teenage sons loved the comfort, the wi-fi (of course) and particularly the pool. We enjoyed visiting the remarkable underground church at Aubeterre, and also did some kayaking there (note: manhandling the kayaks past a dam was less than ideal, but the river was beautiful); Angoulême and Périgueux were also fun to visit. Richard and Jane were welcoming and helpful but also very discreet hosts. Highly recommended, and we’d love to go back one day.

A Little Slice of Heaven...on Earth

Our group of six friends from various parts of the U.S. met in Paris and travelled by car to heavenly Carmagnac where we spent 6 glorious days. ( By the way, it is possible, we learned, that you can train from Paris to Angouleme where you can rent a car which we would do next time. This farmhouse is charming, comfortable and truly a home away from home. It was especially good that we each had our own en suite and there was plenty of space for all of us. The weather was terrific...lots of sunshine even in October. We frequented neighboring Villebois and travelled to St. Emilion and Bordeaux for superb views and wines, to Aubeterre where the largest subterranean church in a Europe can be visited. and finally to Angouleme for supper on our last evening at Chez Paul. Richard and Jane saw to it that our every need was anticipated. We loved cooking in a fully outfitted gourmet kitchen and enjoyed the company of our hosts. We are leaving France with a large collection of happy memories. Richard and Jane - much appreciation for all you did to make our stay perfect. We are already dreaming about our return. Dear Constance and Crew, thank you very much for this lovely review. It was great to meet with you all and delighted that Carmagnac and the weather were in sync. Our aim is to provide a homely feel where you can relax and have fun and visit many of the great historical places that surround us. The Charente has so much to offer and is surprisingly easy to access with a TGV from Paris or Bordeaux passing Montmoreau a 5-minute drive from Carmagnac. Carmagnac is much more than a holiday let and that is what makes it special. We are delighted that this came through and you all felt so comfortable in the three large double rooms with private ensuite. We work hard to make sure you have everything you may need to make those lasting memories. We look forward to welcoming you back by plane, train and automobile. Au revoir and safe travels back home. Excellent séjour dans un havre de calme

Notre séjour était excellent avec l'accueil chaleureux de Jane et Richard dès notre arrivée. Ils nous ont fait la visite des lieux en nous présentant la maison, la superbe piscine, la cuisine d'été, le coin lounge a proximité et son hamac sous les arbres. Le bonus : un trampoline !!! Les enfants étaient ravis! La maison dispose de tous les équipements nécessaires et d'une cuisine de "chef" avec des ustensiles et un piano avec assez de fours pour des réunions gourmandes en famille ou entre amis. Globalement la décoration est très chaleureuse et au bout de quelques heures, on se sent un peu comme chez nous. Jane et Richard savent être très discrets mais toujours disponibles pour la moindre question. Vous serez au milieu des champs de tournesols...calme et repos assurés !!! Et vos enfants et amis pourront s'amuser sans embêter les voisins 😆😆😆. En synthèse, nous n'hésiterons pas à revenir !!!!

Magnifique séjour en famille.

Très jolie maison, propre et fonctionnelle. Loin de tout agréable pour se reposer et se retrouver avec sa petite famille, magnifique décor très apaisant. Logement tres propre tout à été mis à notre disposition pour le plus grand des confort, les hôtes on été d’une très grande disponibilité pour que tout soit parfait. Un grand MERCI.

Vaux Lavalette August 2020

We had a fabulous week staying at Jane and Richard’s beautiful place. It was our second visit to Carmagnac and it was just as lovely as we remembered. The house is cool, quiet and well-equipped with plenty of space to spread out but also come together to eat , play games or just hang out. The pool area is fab with gorgeous views and enough loungers and chairs to go around. Jane and Richard couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming. Great hosts with a beautiful house. Highly recommended!

Wonderful

I would like to thank Jane and Richard for their welcome and kindness.They are a great resource for visits to the surrounding area and extremely kind. The house is beautifully decorated, with quality fixtures and fittings: this kitchen is just amazing, the bedrooms are very large and very well appointed (my 2 teenage girls loved having their own bathroom). The swimming pool area is a great place to relax and to watch the sunset. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy a beautiful and very comfortable home, I recommend it. A taste of Eden, if not Paradise itself !

Jane and richard's house indeniably has a soul. You will feel it upon your arrival. Even if you enter their privacy, at no time you wil feel an intruder. Everything is welcoming here. The organization of the interior space is intuitive: things are found easily, as if the guest had designed them that way. The style is a tribute to the Entente Cordiale, between France and UK, but also present and past, countryside and modernity, apparent rusticity and great comfort, a mixture of genres always in the best taste. However, wherever the eyes fall, the house is full of charming details, a real “cabinet of curiosities”: the decoration, the paintings, photographs, ornaments, books, cds etc. A rabbit here, a duck there... Lewis Carrol and Beatrix Potter reunited ! In this regard, the connection between the interior and the exterior is harmonious. The best illustrations are the visits we had in the morning, for breakfast: little rabbits in the garden, birds... even a fawn! The colourful magic of Bambi in your garden ! In fact, the house is neither more nor less than like its owners, full of a caring presence, full of charming promises. Thanks for your kindness Jane and Richard . Alain, Aurore, Alicia and Aloys. Excellent séjour face à un paysage de rêve

Une maison très agréable et chaleureuse. Des propriétaires très sympathiques et discrets. Un séjour super au bord de la piscine et dans une campagne charentaise aux airs de Toscane. Des petits villages agréables à visiter… On recommande vivement. On va d’ailleurs certainement répéter l’expérience 😊

Lovely Relaxing Stay

Richard & Jane were welcoming, friendly & very knowledgeable on the surrounding area. Their home was a great starting point for venturing around the leafy lanes of France. Nights in with a glass of wine, feeling toasty from the log burner & the relaxing scent of lavender will remain with me as a very happy memory. Will definitely keep in touch & return next year.

First time French rural holiday

Our party of 7 (4 adults and 3 children under 8) fully enjoyed our two weeks at Carmagnac in July/August. We arrived a little early (with permission and due to a flight time change) and were warmly welcomed by Jane and RJ. Our first impressions were that the property was roomier than we had anticipated from the photographs, especially the kitchen/diner and upstairs bedrooms. This house has everything you need for a home from home break and not once did we not have something to hand for cooking or prep. On the hotter days the air con was an absolute godsend! The views were to die for and the grounds so pretty and well kept. The pool area was clean and pretty and the children throughly enjoyed their 'midnight swims' (at 9pm!). The pool was an adequate size even with us all in. The smallest gained water confidence as the shallower end allowed him to be able to touch the bottom easily and enjoy some (supervised) jumping in. Jane and RJ were excellent hosts, always on hand to answer any questions about where to go and RJ even led us to the local SuperU so that we'd find it easily the next time. A lovely couple with lots of fascinating anecdotes. Location is very rural with the nearest large supermarket a 10 min drive away and some boulangerie in surrounding villages. The drive out of Bordeaux was a little hair raising though! Lots of local places to visit and hardly any other cars on the road, which is marvellous when you're not used to driving the opposite way! We would recommend Aubterre (river and town), Brantome and St Emillion for day trips. For 3 of us it was our first folly into the 'rent a farmhouse in France' world, having always been 'waited on hand and foot in resort' types and thoroughly enjoyed the change. Our 8 year old enjoyed exploring the area and practicing the French that she has started to learn at school. We would recommend Carmagnac to anybody considering it even for a short hop for relaxation. Thank you Jane and RJ for a wonderful stay. Fond memories will be with us always x

Hello team Macklin, many thanks for your kind review it was a delight to host you all and with wall to wall sunshine. It was lovely to hear that the little fella mastered water and the sandpit with his trucks, it was lovely to see hm in the mornings fully focused on digging. You missed the tractor event a few day after you left, he would have loved it and the girls enjoying the pool and their first pool party. All great fun. hope the trip home wasn't too painful. This part pf France has so much to offer and Carmagnac a good base for the coast, countryside vineyards and towns and of course the Ramparts in early September. Kind regards Jane and Richard

A remarkable and well equipped home with heated pool

A delightful and relaxing stay with stunning views and a pool that is so inviting at 28 degrees day and night and an outdoor shower (hot and cold). The kitchen is very well equipped with high-quality equipment with a large centre island and dining room table allowing us all to be together. The farmhouse just keeps on giving with wonderful gardens and full air conditioning. There is a Pergola by the pool, great to escape the midday sun and just relax, chat, play games and BBQ. The bedrooms are very comfortable and full of light and have an ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower. We had everything and more. We certainly recommend this beautifully equipped and surprisingly large and interesting farmhouse.

Home from home in a beautiful gite

A week here was simply not long enough. Carmagnacis a truly special place and a real home from home. Everything has been thought of with guests in mind, along with lots of little extra touches which helped to make our holiday. We felt immediately relaxed and at home and enjoyed the warm pool, beautiful views and spending time as a family here. Richard and Jane were perfect hosts, discrete but always available if needed. We left Carmagnac with happy memories and all wanting to return for longer next year. Thank you Richard and Jane for sharing your home and part of France with us.

A beautiful Gite in peaceful surroundings

A fantastic week spent at Carmagnac. Very comfortable and well equipped Gite with lovely pool and great views. Our week was extremely peaceful and relaxing - even with 3 teenagers. Would definitely recommend and hope to return. Helen and Jason Cole

Long relaxing weekend in Sep 16

Stayed here with the owners and close friends in Sep 16. Fabulous facilities in a great location. Highly recommended any time of year. If you're a petrol head, base yourself here for the famous Circuit Des Ramparts in Angouleme (about 40mins away) in Sep. Great atmosphere and a great weekend of vintage car racing. Pay an extra €20 and get yourself up close to the classic cars in the pits. Planning another stay, with the family, next year and looking forward to lazy days around the heated pool with my granddaughter.

Jane and Richard met in 2001 and had a passion for France. With us both working in the hospitality and facilities industries and wanted a project. As they say it keeps you young. After 5 years of travel to and from our home in Bath (Jane worked in Bristol and Richard (RJ) London the weekends and holidays were spent renovating to make this our family home. Rj commuted back to London for work whilst Jane remained to project manage the local artisans, Jane can share some great stories, some lost in translation!

We started letting our home in 2011, so we are not new to this. Our home is constantly moving on so the project is never ending and that's how we like it, so for our visitors who return regularly there are always new things to see.

Carmagnac was initially rented as a holiday home with or without the owners onsite, as some of our residents like to know we are available; After 14 years we have now moved back into tghe main house and let the separate annexe, with private entrance.

This is not let as a holiday home, it is our home, so we don't have a 'that will do attitude' and hand me downs, At Carmagnac you have everything you would wish for from a 6,9,12 inch baking tin, tagine, food blender, jam pot to quality crockery and cutlery and utensils etc etc. Its full of character and those that stay leave with memories of a great time, great food, great wine and a great home that characterises Jane and RJ.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

We noticed the farmhouse roof from the main road at the top of the drive, well when we say the main road, we have a tractor on Thursday and the odd bicycle during the afternoon. During Ramparts (http://www.circuit-des-remparts.com/) a possession of vintage cars and fantastic fun. We have a private drive, well we share it with the farmer who uses it to gain access to the surrounding fields, very infrequently and to check on the local pond. This leads to our private drive and Carmagnac. We are South facing and hidden away in the valley with amazing views.

We bought Carmagnac on our first viewing, it was April, damp and raining, the grass hadn't been cut for the last decade and water poured into the building. We had a comprehensive check list, however as all good books tell you don't buy on emotion. Well, we did. Best move ever.

We set a budget, engaged architects and hit French bureaucracy which we have grown to love! As any well-appointed TV programme will shout about, we blew the budget, it is our home at the end of the day. We've been investing ever since and continue to do so. It becomes a passion and hopefully a legacy, subject to Brexit of course!

A character home, flooded with light, stunning views, secluded with easy access to some of Frances most picturesque villages and easy access to the coast, tributaries, rivers, beeches, chateaux's and the wine regions and not forgetting the Cognac estates and St Emilion.
