Many Native Americans believed the bear's long sleep brought visions of truth and healing. The Bear has come to symbolize a great source of wisdom through relaxation, looking inward, and giving attention to one's dreams. After their time of rest, bears emerge with a new strength and vigor for life, much like the growing earth itself. At Bear Garden Retreat you can enjoy relaxation as a source of healing and renewal. We hope this retreat with it's impressive views leaves you feeling restored and revived.
Bear Garden Retreat is the perfect getaway for people who want to enjoy the rustic beauty of a log cabin as well as the luxury of modern amenities. The cabin is great for families looking for a relaxing escape, couples searching for a romantic retreat, or even for a group of friends who want to get away from it all. Bear Garden features lovely log furniture as well as beautiful and original art work. The kitchen is fully equipped to accommodate any chef. Bear Garden features three lovely bedrooms, a spacious screened-in porch, and a large hot tub. You can sit back and relax on the screen porch, or soak your worries away in the state-of-the-art hot tub. Every effort has been made to make sure our guests have a relaxing and rejuvenating escape. Bear Garden Retreat is private enough to have the full “cabin in the country” experience, but close enough to feel safe and secure in the woods. Why Karen King chose Berkeley Springs
Our love of the mountains and hiking brought us to Berkeley Springs. Berkeley Springs is one of USA Todays Top 10 Best Southern Small Town 2015. It is a Art filled town with it's own unique character and energy. There are plenty of fun things to do in town. Berkeley Springs State Park offers a Spa and Roman bath area. Or you can just wade in any time of year for free. Bring your water bottles and fill up fresh Spring water! Stroll the downtown for antiques, art or dine at the many fine restaurants. Bear Garden Retreat is South on 522 near Cacapon State Park. We enjoy hiking, kayaking, swimming, fishing, golfing, horseback riding and shooting at the range. The scenic Overlook is not to be missed. Cacapon State Park offers many free family activities year round. Hancock MD is near by and there is access to the C&O and Northern and Western Rail Trail. Both are excellent to ride. One highlight is the Paw Paw tunnel. Bear Garden Retreat sits at an elevation of 800 feet above sea level. We are at the end of a quiet lane surrounded by oak forest. We have seasonal long range views. You can stroll up and down the lane without any traffic. Our neighbors are friendly and few. Bear Garden Retreat is a gift and we are happy to share it with others. We hope you enjoy your retreat and come again.

Awesome R&R in the woods with modern amenities!
Front and side porches were great places to hang out and read in peace. The hot tub was perfectly located at the back of the house overlooking nothing but forest. Ping pong table and large legos provided our 6 and 2 year old boys with hours of fun. The cabin is only about 2 miles from Cacapon State Park - which is where we spent lots of time hiking and playing on the awesome playground. We also took a morning trip to paw paw tunnel which was about 45 minutes away. Pretty cool tunnel, but my 6 year old thought it was creepy. Long distance to walk in the dark - about 1/2 way through I remembered the flashlight on the phone which made it much easier to get through! The cabin is About 15 minutes from town - which was perfect distance in my opinion. For those wondering - it does have WiFi and satellite tv. Plus - pet friendly! Our doggie has only grown up in DC so she had a blast running around with us and exploring thE wonderful forest all around the cabin. We only used 1 of the 2 TVs one time the entire stay (5 days) to watch Ice Age DVD (there were about 4-5 kid movies and really decent adult options too) - so almost a fully unplugged weekend! The only constructive criticism I have is that the wash machine and jets in the upstairs bathroom could use a really good cleaning (moldy). But pretty minor in the big scheme of things - we can’t wait to come back!
Incredibly peaceful and relaxing, home was beautiful
My girlfriend and I had an amazing stay at bear gardens.
To begin with, Karen is amazing and responded to any questions I had within five minutes, literally. Amazing. I had a question about the hot tub and she even offered to come by and show me, talk about service!
The house itself is very beautiful, clean, and well kept. We particularly loved the toasty warm wood stove and the hot tub which had a great view of the woods from the back porch.
we came to escape the hustle of the city and bear gardens was the perfect place for this, very remote and tranquil however not completely isolated.
Overall it was an amazing stay, it would have been perfect if only we saw a bear or two;)
Wonderful Accommodations for a Nice Get-Away!
Our group of girlfriends stayed here for a 3 day/2 night get-away from Pittsburgh, and we’re so glad we did! This home is wonderful! It’s spacious, clean, convenient to town, thoughtfully decorated, adorned with modern amenities, and lacks absolutely none of the creature comforts of home! In fact, with a jetted bathtub, outdoor hot tub, wood burning stove and fireplace, it has MORE creature comforts than many of us have in our homes! Our only “regret” was that we stayed in January and so couldn’t make use of the fantastic screened-in porch. Next time, hopefully! Thanks for a wonderful place for our get-away!!
Another wonderful stay at Bear Garden Retreat!
This is my second time staying at Bear Garden Retreat. My husband and I returned for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The house is warm and inviting and very clean! We loved the hot tub and had a great time watching movies and playing ping pong together. It was lovely to disconnect for a few days and spend some time relaxing together. The house was also decorated for Christmas, which was a nice added touch. It is quite secluded, so it is the perfect place to "get away from it all". We had some family join us for our second evening and had a great time! I can't wait to return!
We couldn't have asked for a better weekend! Every part of the house was clean and well organized. The property was easy to find. The four children we had with us played outside, with the games provided and we had a family movie night as well. Thank you! I hope we can return sometime soon.
Perfect Weekend Getaway
This place was fantastic, every detail was taken care of. The house is very well appointed and very clean. Karen was a pleasure to deal with.
