Host was very informative on any questions about the cabin and rules. Beautiful clean Cabin with convenient appliances and rooming for everyone. Pictures are exactly as the real thing. Only advice is to atleast have a 4x4 vehicle that can pull a load in the mountain area. Hills are killer on fuel and require a vehicle that can hual and climb. It would give everyone a more peace at mind if it is your first time in the mountain area. The land scape is beautiful and is a unique sight to see. Hope everyone enjoys your stay, I know we did. Thank you for the opportunity.

This 3 story cabin was just perfect for the seven of us. What you see in the pictures is what you see when you check in. It is located in a community but it was still private and quiet at night. The view down the valley was a nice surprise. We actually saw fireworks in the distance. The cabin was clean and comfy.Just an FYI The bedroom on the first floor actually has a bunk bed. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out if desired, with a living room on the second floor and on the bottom floor. The outdoor decks are really nice to hang out on with plenty of space. It rained on us and on the bottom deck we were able to stay out of the light rain and still enjoy the cool weather. We saw deer right next to the cabin on the driveway side. The Host was very quick to respond to any questions we had. It was a very nice weekend getaway and I don't think anyone would be disappointed staying here.

OS Review

Driveway is a bit steep and challenging to drive up while covered with snow. Definitely will need a 4x4 (with snow chains after fresh snowfall) to park at the house. Overall we were very satisfied with the cabin especially the quick response from the property owner regarding any questions that we had - usually within minutes. The views from the cabin are outstanding.

Spoiled to the VRBO way of travel.

STUNNING!! CLEAN!! This property is amazing. Not only is this a beautiful cabin/home, the views are breathtaking as well. This was our first family vacation with kids and grandkids. Everyone was more than pleased with their accommodations, and it set the tone of a great vacation. You literally want for nothing at this property. Comfy beds, stocked kitchen (almost every pan and small appliance you could need), quality linens and towels. All the things that remind you of home away from home. Michael Mayfield is a dream to do business with. I didn't have many questions, but he was very quick to respond to the few I had. My son asked if we could come back for a winter staycation at this property......He has me thinking!!

Summer Retreat for a Group of 12

My group of 12 friends visited during the summertime. I'm normally wary of hosting type places when traveling, but Mike was so friendly and eager to answer any questions I had. He was accommodating during our calls/texts, gave recommendations on nearby attractions, and gave very clear instructions. The property is a 40 minute drive from Durango with beautiful views. The driveway is kinda hectic due to steep slopes, but manageable. The property itself is gorgeous, amazing views no matter where you look. There's a clearing a bit up the way that was perfect for exercising or just chilling. Between the beds and couches, there was plenty of space for our group of 12 to sleep. Also, plenty of towels. Even with 12 of us, we never ran out. Overall, if I could give 6/5 stars, I would.

Bayfield, Colorado is a MUST!!!!

From start to finish, Michael has been great to work with. He is easily accessible, more than accommodating to answer any and all questions no matter how minor. This cabin is everything and more than the pictures describe. There were 11 of us and it more than accommodated everyone, giving each group their own private living quarters (restrooms & bedrooms), along with washer / dryer; an upstairs and downstairs deck; family room and kitchen, game room downstairs. We had to ask a neighbor help us get our car unstuck and was more than happy to help. His name is Vic and you drive passed their house on the way to the cabin. You feel secluded but also feel like you’re in a community. Everything about this cabin made our trip the best. They’ve thought of everything!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

After 5 summers of a 1 week rental somewhere in Colorado, this is the best of the best. For our family of 8 adults and 2 small children, the Mayfields’ beautiful cabin was perfect, and Michael was the perfect host. Everything was exceptionally clean and in working condition. The layout allowed privacy for reading or napping, with multiple other gathering spaces for family meals and board games. Our last night we gathered out on the upper deck to gaze at the Milky Way and spot meteorites. We appreciated that there are more than adequate bathroom facilities—one on each floor. Some previous guests had critiqued the rather steep driveway. But that has been recently paved and should no longer be a challenge for any vehicle. We enjoyed proximity to Mesa Verde National Park for a day trip and Durango for short trips to a fun children’s park, disc golf courses, restaurants/breweries, and thrift store shopping. Some of us hiked all the way up the mountain behind the cabin (bushwhacking until we happened on a groomed trail) and enjoyed the vista down to the Vallecito Reservoir—which we visited one day also, hiking the family friendly Vallecito Creek Trail. All in all, this place is a winner. The only downside is that any future rental will pale in comparison.

We had a wonderful stay during our week. The house has lots of room to spread out. The kids enjoyed having the downstairs to themselves. We enjoyed peaceful mornings on the upper deck watching the birds, and hummingbirds. I wish there were hummingbird feeders we could have put out while we were there. While it didn't bother me personally the older members of our group didn't like the lack of air conditioning. I understand lots of places in Colorado don't have ac, but coming from the Texas heat we are accustomed to ac. It was manageable with the windows and doors open and some fans we brought. The only time it was really hot was when we were cooking. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would book again if in the same area. Communication with the host was excellent.

Family get together

We really enjoyed the log house, the view, the decks, the layout. And it is a beautiful area. It is unseasonably warm, especially in the mountains, so the ceiling fans were very helpful.

Great log cabin

We had a great time in this log cabin. The place was secluded and quiet. Perfect for our family. Only issue was the garbage taking down the hill. You need to watch the posted hours to dump the trash because they close early, but other than that would definitely recommend.

Beautiful cabin

My family all loved staying in this beautiful cabin. It was perfectly located to feel out in the country but close enough to town to easily access whatever we needed. The cabin is large with multiple seating areas and decks. Highly recommend.

Top of the mountain retreat

This is a fantastic cabin if you're looking for a comfortable mountain retreat with plenty of room for outside activities. The cabin has plenty of room for larger parties, and the availability of 3 full bathrooms (one on each floor) makes each level of the cabin feel like a separate suite. Outside, in addition to the large decks, there is a large area on the property that is great for outdoor games or setting up a hammock between trees. This extra outdoor space really makes the cabin feel like more of a retreat. It IS a steep driveway at the top of a very winding dirt road (you gain 1000ft elevation from the neighborhood entrance). No problem in the summer, but it could be a challenge in the snow. Otherwise, the only disappointment was that no fires were allowed at the property (neighborhood rules), so you'll have to trek elsewhere to have a campfire and smores.

Great Cabin with amazing view

Overall a great stay. Cabin is very large with several identical bedrooms and two comfortable living areas. Cabin was well stocked with kitchen equipment, towels, etc. Two large decks, with an amazing view of the valley through a gap in the trees. At the very top of the ridge within Forest Lakes. Would definitely recommend.

PICKED THIS PROPERTY TO BUY WHEN IT WAS VACANT AND DESIGNED AND HAD JIM BARNA LOG HOMES BUILD THIS STRUCTURE. IT IS BUILT INTO THE MOUNTAIN. THE NORTH AND WEST WALLS ARE CONCRETE AND THUS THE FIRST FLOOR IS ALWAYS COOL. WHEN MANY BUILDERS LOOKED AT THIS PROPERTY AFTER WE BOUGHT IT THEY TOLD US THE FIRST THING TO DO IS SELL IT BECAUSE IT IS TOO HIGH AND STEEP TO BUILD ON. WE HAD TO BLAST OUR DRIVEWAY IN. YOU BE THE JUDGE.

THIS IS A COMPLETELY LOG STRUCTURE EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST FLOOR AND THE VIEWS ARE AMAZING OFF OF THE DECKS. WHILE THE BOTTOM OF THE MOUNTAIN IS QUITE POPULATED NOW, UP WHERE WE ARE IS STILL COMPARATIVELY MUCH LESS POPULATED. WE WANTED A LOG CABIN IN THE MOUNTAINS AND WE BELIEVE WE ACHIEVED IT. BUT, YOU DECIDE.
