It was clean and comfortable and everything worked well. Cam and Christine were great host and I enjoyed our conversations. The outdoor toilet and shower was expected and everything worked well.

Definitely rustic, but not quite what we were looking for
Cam and Christine are attentive and kind hosts. The property is (as described) rustic. The setting is almost idyllic. However, there are no south-facing windows in the cabin, and minimal lighting, so being indoors was gloomy. Outdoors, there was one comfortable seat: the sunset bench, located about 75 yards down the hill. The mattress was adequate, but not comfortable. The lack of running water was something we were able to cope with, but the outdoor shower situation was (despite the hosts' best efforts) horrid.
Many folks (according to the guest book) have had lovely getaways here and are eager to return. We are not among them. We very much enjoyed our time together, but spent most of it out and about exploring the hiking in the area.

We are very sorry our guests were disappointed by their stay in Squirrelville cabin. We are always receptive to constructive criticism, but in this case we feel they were not only NOT constructive, but mean spirited. With regard to the new shower, that had come 2 days late and the day they arrived, we offered them 2 alternatives until we could get it up and running (shower in the other cabin, which they did, and sun showers, which one of them used). They described the shower as “horrid” but when we tested it today, it worked perfectly, suggesting possible user error. The instructions may need to be made clearer and we will do so (though we offered them the full operating booklet). With regard to the cabin being “gloomy,” it is sheltered by ponderosa pines that keep it cool and yes, on the darker side indoors. One has but to turn on the many lighting options to remedy this. No south facing window? Seriously?? This is a rustic 100 year old historic cabin, for Pete’s sake, and advertised as such! Clogged sink? Not today when we poured water down it. We will also be testing the mattress that none of the hundreds of people who have stayed here had a problem with. We have always done our best to make people feel welcome here, and we feel that perhaps this was just the wrong place for these folks.

Amazing place!
Wow what a relaxing beautiful place this is. We enjoyed every minute of it. We had tons planned for the weekend but we didnt get out due to it being so relaxing and rewarding at the cabin and it’s surroundings! We were content with looking at all of the cool stuff, listening to Cams music, cooking, reading, hammocking and the sun shower was a blast and soothing. The outhouse was absolutely adorable and clean and fresh. When you come bring a little souvenir to leave in the cabin. I brought painted rocks. For sure we will come again! Thank you Cam and Christinetou two are amazing!!!

Nice stay in the high desert
Really enjoyed our stay in Oregon's high desert. Rural property that takes you back to how your grandparents lived. Part of the charm is roughing it a bit, and being able to disconnect. Close enough to town for the essentials, and a walk away from cell service if you must. Cam and his wife were great. Met us at the property and showed us around. Had everything prepared when we arrived, and had answered our questions in advance. If you want to truly get out of town and enjoy serenity, this is the place! Thank you Cam!

Squirrelville Cabin
The location of the property is wonderful. That said the cabin could use some improvements like a fan for it gets pretty warm inside at night and currently the shower system consists of "sun bags" hung from a hook, something less than ideal.

4 propane showers later, our elevation is the problem. I designed and built an outdoor shower system and you unfortunately caught us between the next shower purchase. At 5700' the pilot goes out, and freezing has been a problem. I've put a lot of time ,energy and $ into making this right and still haven't found the right fix. I'm sorry it took away so much of your experience to have to resort to a sun shower Richard. There was a fan by the end table.

A lovely retreat
What a cozy cabin in a beautiful area- we had such a fun and relaxing time here! For cross-country skiers- there are a couple official sno-parks nearby or you can just put your skis on at the door of the cabin and venture up the road and onto the old logging access roads. We also loved hiking and soaking in the hot springs at Hart mountain and playing board games around the wood stove. Thanks Cam and Christine for your hospitality and gifting us homemade pie on Thanksgiving, such a treat!

Winter wonderland cabin
Squirrel Lille was perfect for our SE Oregon adventure. The cabin is well outfitted with supplies and is quite snug. My granddaughter was a bit put off by the outhouse but she loved the wood burning stove. We did need 4 wheel drive to get up the driveway as the snow was quite deep. Cam was a great host.

We were thrilled to host this 3-generation grandmother-mother-daughter group. However, 3 people - and 3 dogs (that weren't mentioned prior to arrival) - rather pushed the limits of our almost 100 year old cabin. It would appear that Robin and family wanted more than we advertised, and I'm sorry for that. They certainly burned through the 4+ nights of split wood and extra kindling that I supplied in 2 days. Sometimes, despite our explicit communication about what is being offered and current conditions on the ground, guests' expectations don't match up with what they've read, and I'm truly sorry for that. With all that we offered extra including changing the dates at the last minute, we were surprised our offerings weren't more appreciated...

Wonderful stay!
We so enjoyed our stay in this historic cabin. The hosts were wonderful and they had thought of every touch in supplying the cabin with whatever one might need. Highly recommended and a great jumping off spot to Hart Mountain! We will be returning for sure :)

Perfect Getaway!
We wanted to get away and be away from it all. This property is perfect and amazing. Cam and his wife have everything you need and are so friendly. We enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stay longer. Our dog loved chasing the squirrels and running around. This is the perfect spot to get away and relax and not worry about the outside world!

Eva!! I'm so sorry it's taken so long to respond to you! A lot has been going on this year for us and sometimes we forget about e-mails!! I've been very sick this Spring through Summer and had to be airlifted to Bend for surgery. I had a very rare lung infection that came after a bout with pneumonia. We loved having your family here and are so sorry you've left the West coast!! We were so looking forward to seeing you all again (and the new addition)! Love to you all, and I sure hope we'll see you here with us again sometime! Very best regards, Cam and Christine

Por qué escogió este alojamiento
Back of Beyond is the perfect jumping off point for adventure and exploration! Private, fenced, with no other full time residents living just off of Camas Prairie. We fell in love with this place and decided to leave Portland, and build our dream here! Hike over 50 miles of maintained trails that run the length of the Warner Mountains in Oregon, and extend into California. Explore the Great Basin semi-arid desert and the Warner Valley to the East. Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge has the largest remaining herds of antelope in North America. Enjoy the secluded hot springs on top of Hart Mountain, or at Hunter's Hot Springs in Lakeview. Ride mountain trails up to 8,000 ft. Rock hound for Oregon Sunstones and Jasper. Fish for native red band trout (like Dolly Vardon). Fly-fishing on Deep Creek and Vee Lake, or lure fishing for crappie and bass in the Warner Lakes, as well as Drew's and Cottonwood Reservoirs, and Dog Lake. Bird watch at the foot of Hart Mountain in the Warner Valley, where a series of lakes and wetlands form part of the Western Flyway for migrating birds. There are trails and blinds for bird watchers. Discover the largest concentration of Native petroglyphs in the entire state of Oregon, on and around Hart Mountain. Native Peoples have lived in this area for over 10,000 years. This is Cowboy country as well, and sometimes there are cattle drives up or down our road, depending on the season. Wildlife viewing and photography opportunities are rich here!! Lakeview is called the "Hangliding Capital of the West", and a designated launch site is close to us.
Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
