I don't like to give negative reviews, and overlook annoyances in most cases. However, I appreciate honest reviews (good or bad), when deciding on a rental. In speaking with the owner during the week we were there, he assured me that what we experienced in regard to cleanliness and repair issues were anomalies. I trust what he said, but feel obligated to share our experience.
We arrived before our friends and their family, and were greeted by many bugs in the house, alive and dead, as well as the smell of wet charcoal in the garage. One of the two bathrooms was missing its toilet paper roll holder, the light switch for the chandelier over the kitchen table was broken and unusable, the upstairs smoke alarm had its battery compartment left open to reveal a missing battery, there were cob webs in the light fixtures, and there was no toilet paper. Fortunately, we brought our own toilet paper and paper towels, as well as Lysol and Clorox wipes (COVID-19 traveling essentials). We sat on each of the beds to find hard mattresses in all the bedrooms.
Embarrassed that we selected this rental for our trip with friends, we began killing flying insects and spiders, and cleaning the house. It seemed like it hadn't received a decent cleaning recently. Even most of the dishes were dusty. We put the essential ones through the dishwasher.
Whoever cleans this house did not check to ensure that the refrigerator had been emptied. There was partially consumed food left from someone before us, and half empty bottles of alcohol on the counters. I dumped all the garbage left behind and took it to the trash container outside.
Once our friends arrived, it was a nightly task to kill the flying insects. Even though we strictly enforced quick closure of the two doors leading outside, they somehow found their way into the house. Then we discovered we could only get about two showers in before having to wait for the water to heat up again.
We dealt with the small kitchen, the lack of wi-fi and cell reception in the house (which we were aware of when booking), and hung an extra blanket over the sliding glass doors to the decks, since the curtains didn't close all the way.
We planned this last-minute trip, having stayed in the region 6 weeks prior in an excellent VRBO. Even if we hadn't, this was a disappointment. Hopefully it truly was an anomaly and your experience is better.
The bikes, fire pit & location were great, as were scenic walks along the lake.
