At Carphunters lake you have total exclusivity it's a 4 and half acre fishing lake with the largest to date just under 50lb, we have Commom,mirror, grass Carp sturgeon,pike.The lake is set in around 10 acres of forestry and is very private on arrival there a lockable gate. There's a very nice and clean mobile home(£100 extra) with everything the fishing widow will need including satalite TV,a double and twin bedroom, showeroom and toilet, attached is a bait cabin with shower room, toilet, sink, kitchen,sink hob etc,so if you don't want the mobile home you can bivvy up and still have facilities for washing and cooking there's a fridge on the veranda for your wine and beers, 2 BBQ s ( one by the lake) plenty of seating table and chairs under veranda for meals just perfect if you want a relaxing fishing holiday totally exclusive,it's just 4 klm to nearest village with a mini market, bar, and anew Chinese restaurant opened in Chateaubriant which is great for take always look forward to seeing you at carphunters lake.

A lovely, relaxing holiday with helpful owners who went out of their way to accomodate us.

The accomodation was well designed and thought out, very clean and a real home from home. The owners Pam and Mark went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and the kids had different inflatables to play with in the pool as well as bikes, table tennis, pool, tennis courts and of course plenty of fishing, and loads of really good sized carp onto the bank (Mark will supply your tackle. and coaching, if you don't know what you're doing - for a small charge). The accomodation itself is joined to the owners house, but it's a very peaceful and relaxing place to unwind and relax. There is a great bakery a few miles away, and there are plenty of restaurants, shops and supermarkets in the nearby Chateaubriant, and many things to do in the local area. A great place for a holiday, with the extra benefit of some good fishing for carp.

The Perfect Retreat

Hunters Retreat was the perfect holiday for our family, something for everybody, Pam and Mark are the perfect hosts and welcome you into there home. My Husband and Son were in there element with the fishing facilities in a beautiful setting, will be recommending Hunters Retreat to all our friends and familiy and hope to return there ourselves soon.

Best holiday yet

A straightforward journey from Caen ferry port put us at Hunters Retreat at 6pm where we were greeted warmly by Pam and Mark. Glasses of wine or beer were offered, and gratefully accepted, as the starter to a fortnight of total relaxation. The house was perfect, clean, beds already made up, plenty of hot water etc. The lake was a short stroll through the lovely gardens that Pam and Mark have spent much time creating, and provided many happy hours of fishing, and putting the world to rights(!), for David. He managed to catch some good sized carp and on the final day hooked the sturgeon and was particularly proud and happy with that. He got into the habit of cycling down to the lake and I also got into the habit of cycling to deliver breakfast, lunch and tea so he didn't have to pack his rods up to come back. 5 bikes were provided and there is also a child trailer for anyone with young children. In fact this house has so much to offer that we didn't make use of as we are just 3 people enjoying the time relaxing. But, for those in larger groups or with children there is a swimming pool heated by solar panels which we used quite a lot, tennis court, 18 acres of beautiful gardens, ping pong table, pool table, dart board, table football, books, English TV (some of us were really glad to be able to get our daily 'fix' of soaps! Pam and Mark are really friendly and helpful - we couldn't have wished for a better relationship with our holiday hosts. And finally, Molly and Golly - what lovely dogs, so welcoming with tails a'wagging and so well behaved. They visited us every day and we enjoyed their company. When my sister and I went out for days, Molly and Golly joined David down at the lake to see what he had caught. I thoroughly recommend this house to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday. You will find more than you need and a wonderful welcome.

Extremely welcoming hosts and very obliging owners. The property was in very good condition and was supplied with everything that you may need. The pool was very welcome and extrememly clean, the gardens were very attractive, the fishing in this small lake was good and I would recommend a stay at this French Gite to anyone who asks. The area is very rural with Chateaubriant as the main town, if you want peace and quiet this is the place to stay.

You won't get bored

The owners, Pam and Mark, are excellent in every way.Very hospitable, knowledgeable about fishing and the surrounding area.The accommodation was perfect for our party of 7 (4 adults and 3 children 8, 14 and 17).we liked the alfresco dining outside under the canopy. There was something for everyone,fishing, tennis, swimming, table tennis etc. What epitomised our holiday was our middle grandson saying "this is great here you cannot get bored". This was our second visit and I can thoroughly recommend this property

Lovely place to stay, wonderful holiday

We had a great week at The Croft, the owners Pam and Mark, are a real asset and make you feel very welcome. They are on hand for any issues you may have without interfering with your stay. Mark was really helpful with the fishing. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped. There is so much for the children to do here that we found ourselves not going out very much. We played hours of tennis, did lots of fishing, played pool and did lots of swimming in our private pool. The local creperie is well worth a visit and is an easy cycle ride - bikes courtesy of pam and mark. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and very much hope to return in the next couple of years.

Amazing Holiday

This was our second visit to Hunters Retreat and it wont be our last! Pam and Mark run a fantastic operation providing outstanding accommodation and amenities. They are great hosts who go the extra mile to make your stay relaxing, fun and welcoming. The location is great for exploring rural France and the coast is a manageable drive in just over an hour. We went as a party of 5 adults, 2 teens and two toddlers. All agreed it was a perfect holiday, already looking forward to going back!

Mark and Pam moved to France 12 yrs ago. It was one of things, you come for a holiday and end up buying a house, which we turned in to 3 holiday cottages. In St Julien de Vouvantes, 5yrs ago we sold those and bought the fishing lake which Mark as worked on since buying and is running very successfully now with many clients returning yr after yr it's in St Aubin Des Chateaux 10 klm from the Historic town Chateaubriant We look forward to seeing you at Carphunters lake
