Welcome to Captain Connery’s Beachfront Condo at Tidewater Beach Resort! The Captain was an intrepid seafarer from the days of legendary sailing ships, and this home is infused with his adventurous spirit. You never know where you might spot a pirate or a mermaid, or even a 1930s movie star famous for his swashbuckling roles.

Even with all the romance of centuries gone by, the Captain’s Condo also offers every modern luxury, plus some you’re unlikely to find in other beach rentals. From the 55-inch HD-TV with DVR and Blu-Ray/DVD player in the living room to the kitchen’s up-to-date stainless appliances to the romantic soaking tub and fireplace in the master bathroom, everything has been designed to give you the vacation experience of your dreams.

The 1,865 sq. ft. home has three bedrooms and three full baths—two of them en suites—and comfortably sleeps 8 in real beds. (No lazybones snoring on a living room pull-out when you get up for your morning coffee.)

The Master & Commander’s cabin (‘room’ to landlubbers) features Luxurious King Bed; a 46-inch flat panel TV with DVD player; a cozy window nook overlooking the Gulf that’s perfect for a quiet escape with a good book; and a sliding glass door onto the beachfront deck. The en suite bathroom has double sinks mounted in a granite counter top; the dreamy soaking tub facing an electric fireplace (especially nice because you can enjoy the flames while tailoring the heat up or down to match your mood and the weather); a separate shower; and a walk-in closet.

The First Mate’s cabin is also an en suite, with its own private bathroom with a granite counter top vanity and a shower over the tub. It also has a luxurious king bed and a 32-inch flat panel TV with DVD player.

The Crew Cabin features a queen bed that can sleep two and a set of bunk beds that sleeps two, as well as a 32-inch flat panel TV with a DVD player. It’s right next to the third bathroom, which has a granite counter top vanity and a shower over the tub, plus a generously proportioned top-of-the-line washer and dryer set that’s ideal for handling beach towels, softball uniforms,

The kitchen—or as the Captain would insist, galley—seats four at the granite breakfast bar and up to eight at the dining table. It boasts new state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances, including a range with multiple stove top settings, a warming center, double convection ovens, and a warming drawer; a refrigerator with ice and chilled water service; and a large microwave. If you like to cook, you’ll be in heaven! If you don’t, or you just want a break from kitchen duty, there are dozens of fabulous eateries within walking distance.

The living room features gorgeous Gulf views from the sliding glass door that opens onto the deck, comfy sofas, the aforementioned 55-inch HD-TV with Blu-Ray/DVD player, and books, magazines, movies, and board games. There’s also free WiFi.

The deck itself, like the deck of Captain Connery’s clipper ship, is an amazing place to be, whether you’re lingering over morning coffee, sipping cocktails at sunset, (And you’ll have a ringside seat if you’re here when they set off fireworks on the pier.) The beach and Gulf present an ever-changing panorama of blues, greens and grays, sun-spangled water, and foaming waves.

The Captain’s Condo is just across the corridor from the elevator, so it almost feels like having your own elevator car. Even better, also across the corridor is the Captain’s own private cargo hold, which is stocked with beach toys and chairs for your use.

Felt like we had to wait forever for the elevators and the side pools were in a wind tunnel which was very cold in March.

Beautiful condo. The location right on the beach is so relaxing. Yet it close to restaurants, shopping and outdoor activities. There’s a lot for families to do in this area.

Reviewer Comments:

We stayed in this condo last year, everything perfect. This year upon arrival, after taking off shoes sand everywhere on floor, dirty dishes in cupboards and the worst was we found bed bugs. Called management company and they came out and said they would be back next day to spray. We did not hear from them, so called and left a message. Apparently they came the following day while we were at beach. But they never called us to let us know they had been there or left a note - poor communication. The property itself is nice, but the cleaning staff needs to do better, and communication from the mgt company definitely needs improvement. Oh by the way, I e-mailed them upon return, still haven't heard anything back............

Reviewer Comments:

This condo was very well appointed...just about everything you would need was already included. Full size washer and dryer is a definite plus! It is very nicely decorated with a seafaring theme and there are lots of knick-knacks everywhere, so you might want to take that into consideration if you have little ones. The cargo hold stocked with beach chairs, toys, etc. was a particularly nice feature. The condo was really clean, with the exception of some of the knick-knacks listed looked like some dusting of the many display areas had been skipped. My only criticism would be the elevators. PLEASE DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE ANNOYANCE OF THE ELEVATOR SITUATION!! Especially during times of move-out/move-in. We were there during peak season, so we expected it to be a problem and it was. We even asked one of the security crew what would happen if someone had a heart attack or other medical emergency. We wondered how EMTs would ever be able to access the patient. The man joked he would throw the person over the balcony and their heart would re-start when they landed on someone! (Obviously, that wasn't very reassuring.) My advice would be to stay on one of the lower floors, if possible, so you can use the stairs if/when the elevators become a problem. Overall, a good stay! The unit is great, but be aware that this is a large condo complex and if it's crowded, the elevators, beaches, pools, etc. will be as well.

Things To Do

Captain Connery’s Condo is just a half-mile to Pier Park, a 124-store outdoor entertainment, retail and dining complex decked out in beachy architecture painted Caribbean colors, fronted with restaurants that resemble theme parks. Lures include the Grand 16 & IMAX movie theater and the tiny but beloved Miracle Strip amusement park—a must-see at night in all its neon glory. Shopping venues include everything from Dillard’s department store to Lilly Pulitzer’s Pink Narcissus to Toy Kingdom. Eateries run the gamut from Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville to Tootsies Orchid Lounge (famous for country music) to Dick’s Last Resort.

Give your car the day off in the parking garage while you stroll along the beach to Pier Park, dipping your toes in the crystalline water and collecting shells, or ride in style on the Baytown Trolley, which runs every day but Sunday.

The Beach and Bay area are rich in both natural beauty and family activities. There's so much to see and do that we can't even scratch the surface, but here's a very short list of some of the Captain's faves:

Parks & Recreation

Adjacent to Pier Park is Aaron Bessant Park, which features an amphitheater that hosts concerts throughout the year. Frank Brown Park, located just 5 minutes from Tidewater by car, is home to a slew of athletic fields, including 9 softball/baseball diamonds—especially popular during the Grand Slam World Series of Baseball.

Fun For Kids Of Every Age

Panama City Beach is packed with activities that both kids and grown-ups adore. First off, who doesn’t love mini golf? Show off your Tiger Woods skills at one or more of our numerous courses, including safari-themed Coconut Creek, iconic Goofy Golf built way back in 1959 and still wacky, Race City’s indoor black-light venue, or Captain Connery’s favorite, Pirate’s Island! Then channel your inner NASCAR driver on the go-cart track at Race City, Emerald Falls, or Hidden Lagoon.

For excitement of a different kind, visit Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditorium at the intersection of Front Beach and Middle Beach Roads, located in what appears to be the sinking Titanic. In addition to its storehouse of weird and wonderful exhibits, there’s also a mirror maze, a moving theater with 7D effects, and a laser race. You’ll have to try them to find out exactly what they are.

Just across the street, discover the fascinating world of WonderWorks. The fact that the building is standing on its head should give you an idea of what’s inside. Part science lab, part science museum and all fun, WonderWorks features a plethora of hands-on, interactive exhibits that you don’t have to be a kid to delight in, including Natural Disasters, Space Discovery, and the Light & Sound Zone. You’ll also discover a 3-story glow-in-the-dark ropes course, a laser-tag arena, and Space Fury 360, a sort of bumper cars on steroids experience.

Fans of the Dolphin Tale movies will want to visit Gulf World Marine Park on Front Beach Road. In addition to the live sea animal and bird shows you would expect, the park offers a number of interactive programs, including three different Swim & Play With A Dolphin adventures, Dolphin Day Camp, Trainer For A Day, Sting Ray Encounter, and a Sea Lion Meet ‘N Greet.

Water World

If you’re craving adventure of the watersport variety, you won’t have to look far. Rent a wave runner or jet ski, soar above the Gulf on a parasail, or skim over the waves on a banana boat. If you want to make like the Captain, rent a pontoon boat and chart your own course to Shell Island. (You may very well encounter dolphins along the way!) You’ll find rental operators all along the beaches, or you can make arrangements ahead of time online at companies like Adventures At Sea.

Fishing enthusiasts can throw out a line right on Tidewater’s own beach, at nearby Russell-Fields Pier (across Front Beach Road from Pier Park), or on any of numerous charter fishing boat tours.

Big Kahunas can show off their style on skim boards, boogie boards, or surfboards—but you needn’t fear the 40-foot waves of other parts of the world. Except during storms, Panama City Beach surf is gentle and a perfect proving ground for the novice.

Making Memories

In the end, whether you participate in some, all or none of the activities we’ve covered, we think you’ll love your stay at Captain Connery’s Condo. A beach vacation is all about simple pleasures, and with the sound of the surf to soothe your soul, the crystal clear water and sugar white sands to invigorate your senses, and the luxuries of your crow’s nest home away from home, you’ll have everything you need to make the family memories you and your kids will treasure for a lifetime.
