Ili Ili Beach House is a truly unique location right on Pebble Beach. The smooth pebbles (known as ili ili in Hawaiian) create a soothing sound as the waves roll in and out. From the lanai or the garden you can watch the sunset and possibly see whales breech or dolphins play. Walk 50' and go swimming or snorkeling. Take off on a hike to an ancient cindercone or black sand beaches. Kayak to lava caves (we provide 3 kayaks for guests). Scuba divers love to beach dive off this beach as it is one of the best diving and snorkeling beaches on the island.
Pebble Beach is not easy to find in the guide books. It is off the beaten track and therefore almost private. You will be located right in the middle of your own beach. Our house has it's own private garden overlooking the ocean.
You will need lots of will-power to leave this house in its magical setting, but if so inclined this is a great location for exploring the Big Island. Visit the Place of Refuge, snorkel in Kealakekua Bay, surf Kahalu'u beach, do a night dive or snorkel with manta rays, drive 70 miles to the Volcanoes National Park or shop in Kailua only 25 miles away. So wake up, go for a swim and then hit the road.
High Speed Wireless access and Bluetooth sound system!! Bring your work and all your tunes and stay an extra week.

About Chris Arai
We are a family of 4 and we love to come to stay in our house. Our kids love coming here, even though they are teenagers and generally don't hang out with us.
Chris Arai purchased this House in 2006
Why Chris Arai chose Opihihale
The place seduced us! We were staying with friends in the neighborhood and noticed that this house was on the market. We were not in the market for a rental, but we could not resist owning a house right on the beach.
What makes this House unique
We find this place very relaxing. It truly is hard to leave and we find ourselves only slowly getting out to explore the rest of the island. Every time we come back it feels so good to slip into the comfort and magic of this place. We can cook like we do at home, barbecue in the garden and eat on a picnic table overlooking the water. We are slowly learning to catch fish from the kayak. Our goal is to land a mahi or yellow fin from the kayak one day!

Fabulous Vacation, Fabulous Rental
Beautiful beachfront home as described and detailed exactly as shown in pictures. All of the appliances and amenities were in good working order and the beds were comfortable. The internet was surprisingly adequate, which our teens greatly appreciated. The beach view was spectacular and our first morning when we woke up we saw 2 dolphins playing! The balcony was a perfect place to have morning breakfast and take in the breathtaking views.
Location is everything and we enjoyed a place to 'hang our hats' while touring the island, both Kona and Hilo and a lava walk at Kalapana. The Place of Refuge is only 10 minutes away and is located beside 2 Step, a popular snorkeling area that has excellent snorkeling and clear water for viewing. We visited Black Turtle Beach, South Point where we saw 2 whales, Punalu'u Bake Shop (best sweet bread, especially the Taro), toured a macadamia nut farm, swam with the manta raes, saw a seahorse farm and attended a lua! It was pleasant to have a comfortable place to return to every night and enjoyed home cooked meals and outside BBQs on the lunai.
My son and I enjoyed swimming in the ocean out front of the rental and the ocean was calm and refreshing. The big island is the newest of all the islands and most of the beaches are pebble or rock. I would suggest bringing water shoes when swimming and there is plenty of beach equipment at the rental for visitors to use.
We hope to go to Hawaii again and would rebook this rental, no hesitation!

Relaxing and Peaceful
We enjoyed our stay so much! The sound of the waves, the beautiful night sky full of stars, and relaxing in the lounge chairs. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us!
If Resorts Are Not For You. . . .
If you’re not the resort type and want a quiet, beach front experience, this just might be the place for you. Considerably south of Captain Cook and off the main tourist path, this tidy, simply furnished and well-equipped house sits at the top bottom of a steeply landscaped housing development and has a rocky, black sand beach as a front yard. The ocean front is a small cove at this point, making it possible to comfortably swim without being dashed upon the lava rocks that make up most of this coastline. We highly recommend water shoes or rubber sandals!
Although the weather during our stay was less than ideal, my husband and I enjoyed falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean and exploring the footpath the runs along the coast. The few hours of sun were glorious! For those who rent in nicer weather, there are several sea kayaks (with life vests) available for use. Maybe next time!
The Kahuku Unit of Volcanoes National Park is about 15 miles away. We took two wonderful ranger-led walks in this lesser-known portion of the Park. This is a good, albeit possibly rainy, alternative if the weather spoils your beach time.
We enjoy cooking and appreciated the the fully furnished kitchen. It should be noted that a couple of burners on the stove were not operable. Although the owner assures you that the house is fully equipped, it lacks an iron (found the ironing board!), tissues, and soap in the shower. If you need such items, bring them with you, as it’s a long way back up to the top and to a store. We never met the owner, but he was easily reached by phone and email and was very responsive.
We stayed for a week with our 3 kids and had a blast. We hiked, kayaked, relaxed in the yard and so much more. We will stay again when we go back.
Private, peaceful, perfect place!
We stayed the first week of Feb. The surf was a bit high that week so no snorkeling for us but the sound of the surf and watching the waves was mesmerizing.
The home is very clean and had everything we needed. The weather for our stay was perfect for just leaving all the windows open day and night. In the evenings we enjoyed the beautiful sunsets from the beach
For us the location was perfect, giving us easy access for activities in the South side and also up in Captain Cook and Kona areas
One of our favorite adventures was the night time manta rays snorkel, such magnificent and gentle creature swimming so close was really something special
We will be back!
We really enjoyed your home - so much that I am tempted not to review it so I don't have to compete with other vacationers when I want to return. Everything is as shown and stated. We watched the super blue blood moon eclipse here, and that was an awesome night, with limited light pollution as it would have been in more populous areas. It is quiet and a bit far from activities, but if that is what you want, you will love it. Thanks again!
