About Sharon Poindexter
Ken Holdaway built this lovely cottage and the 6 acre lake. Ken has lived in Ararat, VA for over 40 years and is a hobby orchardist. His home and orchard is less than 1/4 miles from the cottage. Sharon Poindexter is his significant other and is managing this VRBO site. We love people and know that we will enjoy getting to know the visitors to this beautiful setting in our mountains. Also, since we are so close by, visits to the orchard house is very possible. At the orchard house you will see several kinds of animals (peacocks, chickens, Bengal cats, etc) in addition to all the trees. The orchard has several varieties of fruit trees. There are peach, apple, pear, plum, apricot, fig trees and many different kinds of berries.
Sharon Poindexter purchased this Cottage in 1995
What makes this Cottage unique
The most unique thing about the cottage is that it truly is away from it all. There is one neighbor that lives close enough to make you feel safe, for those who might not really want to be that far away from it all. You are still close to everything you need, groceries, gas, etc.

The cabin was exactly what we were expecting plus more. The view was beautiful. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere made for a perfect weekend.
We could not have asked for a better place and quiet and peaceful stay. Thank you so very much.
Your sweet little cottage was exactly what we needed in a getaway! The cottage was clean and nicely decorated and had everything we needed! The mountains and pond were so beautiful and provided a relaxing atmosphere. My husband enjoyed fishing everyday while our daughter enjoyed taking the paddle boat out. This was also her first time paddle boarding which she loved! As for me I enjoyed sitting out on the deck whether wrapped up in a blanket or not! It was the perfect spot to read or just gaze at God's handiwork! Thank you for everything! We are already planning our next trip to your beautiful cottage!
The perfect place -Beautiful, peaceful view of lake and mountains!
My sisters and I took our mother to the cabin to celebrate her 90th birthday. When we were children, we spent several summers nearby at Raven Knob Boy Scout camp where my father was camp director and mother wanted to see the mountains again. She also likes to fish and enjoyed fishing in the pond. Sharon and Ken were wonderful hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to their orchard as well as their thoughtful welcoming gifts- flowers, fresh eggs, apples, and even a Happy birthday banner! We had perfect mountain weather- sunny, cool, and breezy. It was a delightful birthday celebration that none of us will forget!
Great Guests...loved the birthday lady and wish her many, many more! Ken and I really enjoyed meeting them and showing them the orchard. The kitties loved them too!
We hope they will remember their stay at the cottage and return for visits often.
Loved the view from the living room looking out to the lake and surrounding mountains. Having the lake access for fishing was awesome! We spent a lot of time catching and releasing small mouth bass and blue gill. Having the option to walk down to the small dock to fish was an added bonus! The reason I did not give a five star rating is because we were unaware of the cabin a few feet away from this one. We were under the impression it would be private with no other cabins around. However, the residence of the other cabin were no bother to us. It was just an unexpected surprise. Sharon was great to communicate back and forth with and very accommodating. It was neat to meet Ken and get some eggs and apples. They were yummy! His new rescue dog was friendly as well! All in all, this was a good trip. We had a good time and loved the view and lake. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your rental.
Perfect place to relax!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin! And the dogs REALLY enjoyed the stay. Such a great place to relax, just wish the weather had been a little better during our stay. Thanks so much to Sharon and Ken for the hospitality. We lived the fresh eggs and peaches. Highly recommend if you a craving peace and relaxation.
