About Natalie Shuttleworth
An active mature woman, wildlife photographer, hiker, skier, fisher, musician, film and theatre lover, computer & software industry professional/director, world traveller, private-pilot, sailor, organic gardener and more! I love animals, especially dogs, birds, bears and other wildlife! My key focus: to support wilderness, wildlife and great music!
Natalie Shuttleworth purchased this House in 1996
Why Natalie Shuttleworth chose Ketchum
My home and gardens have been extensively renovated and upgraded in recent years. This area has it all while quiet and uncrowded. I love my quiet wooded neighborhood on a low-traffic street by the ski mountain and river, while near all town amenities - 5-10- minutes away! The river-rock wood-burning fireplace reminds me of wonderful times in the Appalachians, notably the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (great for much but not snow-skiing)! I wanted a mountain "cabin in the woods" near a river, mountain sports and wildlife, with great professional-quality music, art, theatres, library and nice people. My Ketchum cabin is perfect: I can walk quickly to ski, river, hike, bike, with food, galleries, theatres, yoga close by I have a large organic garden area (I've planted over 30 trees) with a fenced area for dogs & privacy. Two free-bus stops are very near. Everything I seek is quickly and easily accessed! West Ketchum is highly-appreciated by locals, for its location by the river and Bald mountain. I learned to swim in a mountain stream and to fish and canoe in nearby rivers and lakes. I grew up in a cultured University very-wooded town where "a river runs through it", with great music, theatre and art. Later, I added snow-skiing, fly-fishing, flying small aircraft, sailing to hiking, biking, river and ocean sports. There is so much more in the greater area to enjoy - it's a wonderland! The nearby SNRA includes a large wilderness, with Alpine-like Sawtooth mountains, lakes, rivers and wildlife, where I can really escape into nature. Add to that easy day trips to Silver Creek Preserve (famous for fly-fishing and wildlife), Craters of the Moon monument, and Galena summit & beyond to the Salmon river, Redfish Lake and Stanley. A little farther is a spectacular canyon drive along the Salmon river to North Fork, for a nice retreat I often enjoy enroute within a day's drive North to Glacier National Park and Flathead Lake.
What makes this House unique
Location, privacy, calm, cozy, artful, dog-friendly: a private home (not condo) in a quiet residential neighborhood with a private upscale "cabin in the woods" feel, yet close to everything indoors & outdoors! Walk to the river, mountain lifts (including gondola), trails, parks, art galleries, bars, restaurants, theatres, yoga. Free local buses stop within a block, so you don't have to drive. It's only 5-10 minutes' drive to most everything, if you have a car. And I offer private parking for up to 4 cars.

Great location in Ketchum
Great location in Ketchum with access to everything either by walk, bike, or car. Easy locale with kids and nice that it is dog friendly with a safe space (bonus room) for keeping your pet.
Thank you, Andrew, for appreciating and taking good care of my home! I hope you will come again.
Charming home, perfect location
The house is beautiful and comfortable. Lovely art work on the soaring walls. Meticulously clean. Kitchen well-stocked. Very quiet and peaceful but close to town. Ketchum is a jewel. We came for hikes and were thrilled with the views of snow capped mountains and acres of wildflowers. Natalie was very responsive and helpful, emailing suggestions of drives to take and areas to explore. We recommend her "Artist's Home" without hesitation. We hope to come back.
I am so glad you enjoyed your first visit to this wonderful mountain area, and at one of my favorite times to be there - green, lots of wildflowers and some snow still at higher elevations. Beautiful! I do hope you will return before too long!
Great house in a great location!,
Thank you, Laura - I hope you will come again!
Nice place and location.
Enjoyed staying here. A slight mix-up on having the 3rd bed ready for us, but it worked out OK. Not a huge fan of the "Japanese convertible Queen sleeper/sofa"--fine for kids but I wouldn't recommend it for older folks.
Thank you for your feedback. I can provide another Queen regular mattress for use on the floor in the extended (computing, reading) area of downstairs bedroom OR in place of the Japanese sofa bed (thick foam mattress + optional down federbett) in the upstairs loft. My Queen Airbed option sprung a slow leak, so is no longer offered, but I'm considering buying a new, better one.
Clean, close to everything, perfect for our family.
Property owner and magement were magnificent. Will definitely be staying again in the future.
I'm very glad you enjoyed your stay and I welcome you to return again soon!
Natalie's cabin did just the trick. I was there in the dead of winter with lots and lots of snow for a ski get-away. The cabin was cozy, located in walking distance to the lifts, and close enough to downtown to meander for supplies. Natalie was easy to communicate with and clearly values her house and your stay in it.
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay (as I always do when there!), especially with the very deep snow we got! I hope you will come again! - Natalie
As a wildlife photographer, hiker, nature-lover, musician and artist, I cannot say enough good things about this area, year-around! It's also very dog-friendly - many happy dogs abound!
Something for everyone here.
Famous initially and still in high demand for snow sports & fly-fishing, the area is now highly popular year-around for indoor & outdoor recreational and cultural activities.
Ketchum is a historic, charming old Western mining town in a mountain valley, with two rivers running through it. It's the central area for many "Sun Valley" brand activities. Recent enhancements include a fabulous Y with great yoga, indoor/outdoor swimming pool, jacuzzi!, gym.
The main Sun Valley ski mountain, Baldy, with new gondola at River Run are in Ketchum (near my house). Skiers and non-skiers can socialize with good food, drinks and music at the River Run base mountain day lodge and on Baldy at the historic recently-renovated Austrian-motif Round House.
Sun Valley's ski and snow-boarding resort was the first destination ski resort built in the U.S., in the 1930's. It continues as a top resort for Olympic metal-winners (skiing, skating +) and the rest of us alike! Classes and great instructors make it accessible and fun for all levels, especially with state-of-the-art gondola and chair lifts.
Seattle Ridge day lodge on the mountain above River Run is my favorite of the three fabulous Bald mountain day lodges built in the 1990's. It was quickly rated "best day lodge in the U.S." I start my ski day here for great food, views and easier (but not beginner) slopes.
For non-skiers there is plenty to do in town and on/around Baldy. The new gondola (seats 8) can take skier and non-skier to the Round House restaurant & bar on Baldy for great food, drinks and views. Snowshoe trails are available and accessible by lifts.
Historic Sun Valley Lodge is in a nearby valley formed around the "Trail Creek" river. A drive on Sun Valley Road and (in good weather) up the mountain is highly recommended for amazing views and beaver ponds. The dramatic Pioneer mountains on the NE side are the highest in the area (some above 11,000').
About a mile from Ketchum's Main Street, Sun Valley village is the center for world-class ice-skating shows and lessons (Summer and Winter), and a cute village modeled on an Austrian one.. The nearby beginner ski mountain has a new day lodge. The Lodge offers a newly expanded upscale spa open to all.
Winter holidays are magical around town, with tree-lights, ice sculptures, ice-skating shows, concerts, carollersi, sleigh-rides, live theatre and more. Free local buses make it easy to get around town without a car.
I enjoy the many miles of Nordic x-country skiing (and biking), especially around Galena Lodge and on the Harriman Trail, which runs between the lodge and the Ranger Station just N of Ketchum.
Galena is an old stage coach stop, renovated by the community and a wonderful x-country ski/snowshoe center in Winter and biking, hiking one in Summer. Their gourmet, home-cooked food (breakfast and lunch) is worth the journey - about 20 miles N of Ketchum. I recommend their special Full Moon or Star-Gazing dinners, too!
When weather permits (most of the time, as roads are kept plowed in snow season), the drive from Ketchum to Galena Lodge beyond is a must! I never tire of the spectacular views of the surrounding Sawtooth National Recreation Area area (SNRA), starting only 5 miles N of Ketchum. The large scenery is very challenging to photograph. You may see deer, fox, elk and even moose along this road (please be watchful!).
In good weather, I recommend a drive beyond Galena Lodge to 8701' high Galena Summit and then beyond, for views of the Sawtooth Mountains in the SNRA wilderness - perhaps the most like the Swiss Alps of any U.S. mountains! The Salmon River begins here, famous from the Lewis & Clark expedition as "River of No Return".
About 1/2 hour drive from Galena Summit is Redfish Lake, another "must-do" in Summer or early Fall. Enjoy boating, swimming, casual dining and even a dog beach on the lake. Miles of hiking trails surround, mostly inside the SRNA wilderness.
The tiny Western village of Stanley is about 10 minutes drive beyond Redfish Lake. Consider a small plane scenic flight from Stanley's airport. Or visit the Ranger Station or local bakery. Take a river-rafting trip on the famous Salmon River (1/2 day or more).
The local repertory theatre group, Company of Fools, relocated here from Virginia in 1996 enticed by Bruce Willis. Their live productions (and classes) are highly acclaimed.
Other great cultural activities include:
* Sun Valley Symphony - FREE, high quality
* Sun Valley Film Festival - 7th year in March'17
* Sun Valley Opera concerts - February, July
* New & classic movies, multiple theatres
* Fine art galleries
* GREAT library - including talks, concerts
