Our Shearer's room is located in the main building and just metres walk from our restaurant and garden terrace.

The property has an on-site restaurant offering mouth-watering meals, an organic wine list, domestic and international beers and soft drinks to enjoy on the deck overlooking the mountains.

Tanwarra Lodge is situated just a few minutes drive from the local village of Sofala. Sofala came about as a direct result of the gold rush during the mid 1800's. The small quirky village is a must visit stop during your stay to check out the local store, cafe and pub, the old gaol with several walks and tours are available.

If you want to rent the guest house and the loft to different people who don’t know each other, you need to put a door on the guest house, so the guest house has privacy, as the people that rented the loft had to keep apologetic every single time they walked through, it’s not very fair on the people who rent the guest house, it also gives people the option to leave the door open or closed, both parties felt very awkward.

Starting a new adventure as a couple in our 60's, with a passion for nature and being around people, we decided to embark on a journey and create a home away from home and took over Tanwarra Lodge.

We start our new chapter by continuing to provide beautiful, country style accommodation, as well as quality pizza's and fresh coffee through Sofala Pizza and Cafe. We also aspire to one day create a piece of paradise, offering yoga retreats for group bookings and a stunning location for all functions in the near future.

We strive to give every person who stays at Tanwarra, a beautiful experience, wanting to come back again and again. We hope you love Tanwarra Lodge just as much as what we do.

Sofala offers beautiful scenery, nature and a calming atmosphere. While staying at Tanwarra Lodge, you can enjoy a night by the outdoor firepit, next to the river. Tanwarra also offers a BBQ in each room for you to self-prepare your food, or come by and visit our restaurant and cafe, "Sofala Pizza and Cafe". A 5min drive away is the main town of Sofala where you can see the old gold mining town, with some of the original buildings and get the best ice cream you've ever tasted.
