The Oak House in Historic Jean Lafitte

Come to relax in a serene setting, surrounded by hundred- year-old live oaks. Jean Lafitte properties follow along the Bayou Barataria which is rich with the best, freshest seafood. There are nearby bayous and lakes for fishing and water sports. Local adventures include swamp tours, chartered fishing excursions, nature trails, and nearby boat launch access. The house, located just 25 miles from the New Orleans French Quarter and Bourbon Street is a perfect getaway for festivals and Mardi Gras.

The house is newly built in 2020 with modern appliances and furnishings. The space will accommodate up to 6 guests; the master has a queen bed, and the second bedroom has one bunk bed and a full-size bed. The house is raised, and below there is an outdoor kitchen with a fryer, outdoor grill, boiling pot for seafood boils, and a wash area. There are also sitting areas under the house overlooking the oaks for outdoor relaxing. The driveway has enough room to park a boat and trailer, and a public launch is only 2 miles away. The kitchen is fully stocked with all essential cooking ware for you to enjoy home cooked meals during your stay. Don't want to cook, no problem, the property is minutes away from several outstanding local restaurants. All other living essentials are already awaiting you to make this not only an enjoyable, but hassle-free stay and get the most out of your time with family and friends.

The Oak House in Jean Lafitte was a lovely home away from home. Communication with the owner happened either immediately or within five minutes of asking a question. Many amenities were available, from all the standard kitchen amenities (including a garbage disposal!) to a washer/dryer. The air conditioning was also extremely appreciated as it started to get rather humid/muggy towards the end of our stay. Our favorite surprise amenity was an oscillating fan. The house itself was very clean and confortable and the living room had a tv that we could hook our Nintendo Switch up to. The road out front is a little loud with traffic but the house itself stays rather quiet when the doors are closed. The property was very beautiful featuring multiple oak trees with lots of Spanish moss swaying in the breeze. There is also a bench/swing under the house that was nice to relax on (after protecting ourselves with bug spray cause of all those dang mosquitos!). Overall a lovely house to spend our time in while we celebrated our anniversary vacation.

Wonderful stay and great hosts. We were in town for a family wedding and had our son and his family with us. It was family friendly and very clean, safe, and good location. Definitely recommend for families that don't want to stay in New Orleans but want to be close.

Home in the Bayou

We loved our stay at this adorable bayou house! It was cute, clean, and exactly as pictured—no surprises, just charm and comfort. The location was perfect: tucked away enough to feel peaceful and private, yet still close enough to New Orleans to enjoy everything the city has to offer. A true hidden gem in the bayou—highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with easy access to the city.

Peaceful stay, home away from home.

We stayed at this location for a weekend family getaway. Being raised in louisiana its always a hit or miss with location. This was the perfect peaceful home. Clean and supplied with everything needed for an easy stay. The land the house is on gave it that magical cajun touch. The added bonus was being a mile away from a fun swamp tour that ended up being fun for the whole family. Highly recommend and will def stay again.

Decent house

Was a nice house. They only gave us one trash bag for 4 days which was very difficult to deal with. There is also no broom or anything to clean with so you have to wipe floors with your hand if you drop anything, or need to clean. There was paper towels provided. There is no hot tub, I thought I read that in the listing there was one. Very nice bathtub.

Cute Louisiana Stop

My family and I spent two nights in this amazing home on our trip home. The house is perfect, everything was so nice and the beds were so comfortable! We planned to spend a day in NOLA however we ended up coming back early to relax. We will definitely be back here to stay longer!

Clean and comfortable stay

We booked the house to visit family for Christmas and didn’t use it for much more than having a place to shower and sleep. That said, the house is fully stocked with utensils, cookware and dinnerware for those that want to prepare meals. The house is very nice inside and out and we had a comfortable stay. We would definitely book again.

Weekend at the Oak House

The check in process was easy and the instructions came in plenty of time. The property was easy to find and was in a nice quiet area. As soon as we walked in the door the clean smell was very inviting and a relief after a long day of traveling. The bedding was clean and smelled fresh and the towels were surprisingly soft. We made good use of the large yard with plenty of space for the 5 of us to play. We stayed here to visit New Orleans. It was about a 30 minute drive into the city but was well worth the drive to escape from the noise and bustle of the city. Plenty of space inside and out to relax and decompress. If we come back to the area, this will be the place we would want to stay. Thanks for a great time!

Clean, great location

Above expectations! The ladies were very impressed especially after me telling about prior trips where I stayed in “fishing camps.” Swamp tour and my fishing guide were both within 10 minutes of the house. Location about 1/2 hour of Jackson Square. I highly recommend this place.
