Hand-hewn Log Cabin on 7 acres, only 2 mi to heart of Hill City
The cabin no longer has a hot tub as seen in some of the pictures and the virtual tour.
Marshall Gulch Getaway is an authentic hand-hewn log cabin overlooking a serene valley on 7 acres just 2 miles outside of Hill City. A mountain creek flows within view below the cabin. Deer and turkeys are frequent visitors in the yard! The cabin is tastefully decorated with décor fitting the mountain atmosphere. This cozy cabin has a king size log bed in the loft, and a double bed on the main floor bedroom. We allow a max of 4 adults in this rental. If a third sleeping area is needed for a child, you may bring an air mattress and necessary linens. The kitchen is spacious for a family of 4-5.
There is one bathroom with a tub/shower combo and laundry accommodations with washer and dryer. The loft bedroom has a window AC. Board games and playing cards available for rainy or snowy days. There is a 47-inch flat screen satellite TV in the living room, along with a real wood burning fireplace! (And electric heat throughout). We supply a starter supply of firewood, and you can purchase extra at a local grocery store.
The covered front porch is a favorite of guests to sit and watch the wildlife and let the day slip away. Around back is patio with a Gas Log fire-pit that has plenty of outdoor seating to have your morning coffee, outdoor meals, or just sit and watch wildlife. A propane grill is also provided. This cabin sits on a beautiful hillside overlooking the valley below with views of Black Elk Peak. But, the drive to this cabin is a piece of cake and parking is plentiful. Large grassy lawn with plenty of space to roam. This rental is a time-honored favorite for repeat guests.

We had a very good experience staying at this cabin. We liked the large kitchen and bathroom. It was close to many of the activities we did. It was a very beautiful setting.

We really enjoyed the stay. It was a great location: quiet, beautiful views and private. Our host was informative and timely. The cabin was well stocked beyond any expectations and set up well. We agreed that Hill City was the most charming town of all the small towns in the area and was glad we chose this location. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

Cabins like this make family time so memorable. Great location to town, yet private and beautiful. Fantastic grill, gas fire pit, plenty of parking even for a trailer, spacious kitchen and bath, full sized fridge, water cooler, hot showers, comfy front porch, fluffy neighbor cows complete with a colorful donkey, air conditioner, relaxing living room, very comfy beds, great recommendations and accommodations thoughtfully given by the hosts! What’s not to love!

We were very comfortable there. Good comfortable furniture, plenty large kitchen and bathroom. The East facing porch was great in the evenings. Deer most evenings and mornings , turkeys roosting in the pines behind the cabin. I enjoyed waking in the morning under the log spire of the loft. Large Gas grille on the back patio area made the cookout easy. Very quiet area with good parking for our trailer and side by side buggy. Hill City was a great area to access so many cool adventures. All in all a great place that we plan to return to.

It is the most peaceful place I have been. My daughters enjoyed sitting on the porch sipping coffee and listening to nature. The cabin was very clean and perfectly located to Hill City.We will plan another trip to Marshall Gulch.

This stay was exceptional! The cabin was EXTREMELY clean and organized, the host was so kind and helpful, and the location was perfect! We visit the Black Hills every year, and this was one of our favorite cabins so far. For UTV/ATV riders, there is plenty of room for a large trailer, or a couple small trailers. We have a trailer that comfortably fits two UTVs, and we had no issues parking.

GUESTS June 26-29,2026Words cannot explain how much we enjoyed our stay in this beautiful cabin. Our 3 boys (Ages 1, 3, 5) enjoyed running around the front yard and exploring the backyardarea. We also loved the neighbers livestock and enjoyed the peaceful drive into the lot. We took this trip to slow down and take in the blessings of life before our oldest starts kindergarten in the fall! We all discussed how this has been our favorite place to stay in the Black Hills and will be coming back soon and hopefully every summer! We love Hill City; it is a place special in my heart, and I loved seeing my boys love it as much, too! We enjoyed Custer State Park, hiking in the Legion Lake area. We also enjoyed hiking in the Sheridan Lake area! I have my future 14er hikers which makes my Wanderlust dad heart so happy! The whole cabin was clean and inviting. The hosts truly put their hearts into this cabin and lot! Thank you for opening this cabin to our family! We will be back!

This property was absolutely a perfect place to celebrate our anniversary in SD. The location was ideal to visit Mt. Rushmore, Black Hills and the Badlands. The cabin had all the amenities we needed to make us comfortable. And the views of the deers and wild turkeys every day was a special treat.

We absolutely loved our stay! The cabin was beautiful, quiet, and exactly what we were hoping for. It was just far enough away to have a retreat, but close enough to Hill City, Rapid City, and Keystone to enjoy the surrounding area. We loved it and would absolutely book again!

The cabin is in a picturesque location on the outskirts of Hill City, a quaint Black Hills town with plenty to see and do. Great restaurants nearby, and easy access to all main routes to see the major sites. The cabin is well outfitted, comfortably fits 3-4 people, with all you need to be cozy and comfortable. Plenty of wildlife around to see and enjoy.

Loved this cabin, was very clean. We saw a ton of deer and turkey everyday. It’s so peaceful! Will stay here again next time we are in the Hills. We explored on motorcycles all day!

We are a hard working couple who love having time to relax and get away in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. Disappearing in the forest for hours on end has become a hobby. Hill City won our hearts when we were looking for a property of our own and we have adopted it as our second hometown. We have had this property since 2012 and have enjoyed sharing its magic with all our guests. It feels miles away from the hustle and bustle and is the perfect place for doing absolutely nothing. But, it is only 2 miles from downtown Hill City and only minutes from all the major Black Hills attractions. We are thrilled to welcome you as our guests!
