Inside relatively clean and well stocked, some rickety furniture both inside and out. Missing smoke alarms (looks like someone ripped them out of the ceiling in the bedrooms). Suggest actual handrails on the stairs as a 2x6 board isn't easy to grasp on steep stairs. Mouse leavings on the covered patio. No windows in the downstairs bedroom - very claustrophic. VERY steep stairs up to loft and down to basement rooms...should be noted that not ideal for those who have a difficult time with stairs. VERY rustic, great for a guys hunting/fishing trip. Some electrical outlets didn't work. Some lighting fixtures didn't work. But if you like rustic, it's a great location.

Our dog loved the large space to play. We all loved the fire pit and used it several nights. It is rustic as the listing says but very comfortable and clean. Plenty of room for our party of 5.

The firepit by the river and the view were amazing. When we had issues, the mgmt team responded timely. But, the price was too much for the condition of the property. The house and surrounding area really need a solid cleaning. The yard had trash throughout and was unkept; we even ended up with a metal rod in our tire that we had to have repaired. The internet didn’t work for 2 days. The cleaning crew showed up a day early and walked in without knocking. Sadly, this was one of the worst VRBO experiences we’ve had. I hope if you give it a try, you have better luck.

Thank you for staying with us, and for completing a review! We were happy to host you and your group. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed the fire pit and the river views so much, as well as our timely responses. We had out team walk the property and inspect for trash and unkept grounds, as well as verify that the internet is working properly. We also reviewed with Housekeeping how to see the correct departure dates in our system, so they don't show up before they're supposed to in the future. We hope to have another opportunity to have you stay with Vacation Rental Collective again in the future!

This is a real little gem! You drive through a commercial and industrial area and drop down into a peaceful oasis surrounded by meadows and next to the river. It is quiet and feels like you are much further away from civilization. The many outdoor spaces with hammocks and seating areas draw you immediately outside. We love rustic, and this is it! Expect to hand wash your dishes, however the place comes fully appointed with everything else you will need. Our daughter was graduating from Ft Lewis, and we hosted the sweetest party on the deck and down by the fire pit. Our dog is still in mourning over having to leave his bird watching spot on the deck and the Animas River behind!!

Thank you for such a thoughtful and wonderful review! We’re so happy to hear the property felt like a peaceful hidden oasis for your family during such a special occasion. It sounds like you truly embraced the rustic charm, outdoor spaces, and beautiful setting along the river. We love hearing that the deck and fire pit made the perfect backdrop for celebrating your daughter’s graduation from Fort Lewis College. And your comment about your dog missing the bird-watching spot by the Animas River gave us a smile! We’re honored you chose to celebrate such an important milestone with us, and we would absolutely love to welcome you and your family back again in the future.

Train trip

Everything was great for our stay. Well located for our needs, quiet, river next to the property. Only problem was in the listing not stating that there are no bedrooms on the main floor, lots of steep stairs up and down to bedrooms, second thoughts for elderly folks, such as my mother in law, who went with us. We were able to make a bed with the couch and a mattress, we worked it out.

Durango cabin

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have visited Durango for a week plus twice in the last 3 years. It is a wonderful place to relax, hike and explore. The cabin on the river is great. It is on the rustic side, but very comfortable. This year was our second time to rent it! Gathering

The location on the river was really, really great. The proximity to town and river trail great. The bathrooms were clean and the sheets were brand new but had not been washed. We did see a couple of mice and lots of mouse droppings. Around the house could have used a blower and a little clean up as I picked up cigarette butts. But overall, it worked great for us. Spent a lot of time on porch visiting friends and family. We were in town for a memorial gathering. Thanks

We're so glad to hear you enjoyed the riverfront location and found the home comfortable for gathering with friends and family during your stay. That said, we truly appreciate your feedback regarding the cleanliness outside and the issues you encountered indoors — this is not the standard we aim to maintain. We have addressed these concerns with our cleaning team to ensure they’re resolved promptly. Thank you again for staying with us, and we hope to have the opportunity to provide a smoother experience in the future.

Our happy place

Rustic but really comfortable and fun. It was clean with good amenities. Our grandkids loved the bunk beds and our kids loved the fly fishing. We all loved the gas fire pit and being right on the river. I appreciated the short drive to Walmart to provision, too. Town is a quick 10 minutes away. Guest should be prepared for the very steep stairs between levels-especially the stairs into the basement. Would be good if there were some kind of gate installed at the top before someone has a serious fall. Also there are no outside accessible bear-proof trash cans. It was a great place for a weekend family getaway.

Thank you for staying with us, and for completing a review! We were happy to host you and your group, and are so glad to hear that you had an amazing stay. Good to hear that your grandkids and kids loved the bunk beds and fly fishing. Thanks for the feedback about the stairs. We will have maintenance look at them to see if anything can be done to make them safer for future guests. The outside dumpsters are maintained by Waste Management, but we will also look into bear-proof trash cans as an additional alternative for trash storage. We look forward to having you stay with Vacation Rental Collective again in the future!
