The condominium association requires armbands for beach access and limits non-registered visitors for security and occupancy reasons; this policy is noted in the listing and arrival materials. You're absolutely right that the situation could have been handled much better. The front desk staff should have approached this with more understanding and professionalism, especially given that you had traveled such a distance for your Memorial Day weekend vacation.
