Poponi Cottage blev netop kåret til et af de 7 bedste ophold i Caribien af rejsemagasinet Wanderlust! (23. april 2019)

Poponi Cottage er en privat studiolejlighed 100 skridt fra en kilometer lang, øde lyserød sandstrand. Omgivet af smukke haver ligger Poponi på anden sal med en garage under. Fra balkonen er der udsigt over vandet. Poponi Cottage deler en 4 hektar stor ejendom ved stranden med Poponi House. Huset og hytten har godt privatliv fra hinanden. Der er fantastisk snorkling fra vores strand! To restaurant / barer ved stranden ligger i gåafstand ned ad stranden: Unik landsby, 10 minutter, og La Bougainvillea 15 minutter.

Poponis køkken er fuldt udstyret med et gasområde, køleskab i fuld størrelse, mikroovn, kaffemaskine, blender og brødrister. Soveområdet er en queensize seng og et komplet bad med bruseniche. Den komfortable opholdsstue har tv, dvd, kabel og wifi. De dobbelte glasdøre åbner ud mod en balkon med stole, grill og udendørs spisebord. Der er en udendørs bruser nedenunder. Huset har aircondition.

Poponi Cottage er centralt beliggende nær bebyggelsen North Palmetto Point, som har flere købmandsforretninger, apotek og restauranter. Den historiske by Governor's Harbor, øens største by, ligger ti minutters kørsel fra ejendommen. Governors Harbour har købmandsforretninger, banker med pengeautomater, gavebutikker, spiritusbutikker, dykkeri, bageri og et halvt dusin fremragende restauranter. En eller anden af restauranter / barer vil have levende musik næsten hver aften i ugen. Du kan også købe dagens friske fangst for at grille derhjemme fra havnen.

You cannot beat the beach/location here! Nicest beach we've ever been to and only saw about a dozen people at it in whole 2 weeks stay. Great for swimming and long walks along it. The cottage is dated and several items needing repair/replacement. Deep cleaning also needed.

We can’t say enough good things about our stay! Rick and Missy were the perfect hosts with tons of information and knowledge of this amazing island! If you are looking for a place that is calm, tranquil and off the beaten path, this place is definitely for you! We have fallen in love with the island and will for sure be back! This is one of those places that has that thing!

Poponi Cottage has that sweet indescribable vibe - authentic and relaxing. Well equipped, everything you need to cook and relax. Beautiful beach location. Lovely, lush well kept property.

An exceptional place

We had an amazing time at the cottage. I can’t speak highly enough about how incredible the location is, the uniqueness of the cottage, and the opportunities for both relaxation and exploration. Missy and Rick have done an outstanding job of the cottage and we loved being there.

Beautiful cottage

Poponi cottage is a short walk down the lawn to the beach, which is perfect for walking and wading. During our stay, the ocean was rough on this side, so swimming and snorkeling were better on the Caribbean side if the island. Overall, a lovely property ina great location.

Island Time

We truly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was exactly what we expected and provided the comforts of home. It was centrally located on the island. The short walk to the Atlantic was rewarding and the short drive to the Caribbean side of the Island produced equally magnificent views. We would highly recommend this for a couples time together.

Steps from world-class beach

Enjoyed our stay at Poponi Cottage. The pictures and info on VRBO are very accurate. The beach is incredible and rarely do you see anyone else. Amazing. This studio apt is ideal for a couple. The outdoor deck is wonderful; we had morning coffee there each day. The owners live next door. Don't worry, they do not interfere at all, but were there to help and provide suggestions for the island. Highly recommend this place!!

Off the beaten track

Great get away from it all location. Set back about 100m from superb beach. Further rental house in front. Very helpful and attentive hosts. The cottage consists of one room and bathroom above garage. Although very basic there is a thoughtful comprehensive inventory. Drying line outside but partly shaded and if humid drying beach towels etc. difficult. Would suggest change of these every 3 days or so. Overall we enjoyed our stay and good central base to explore the rest of the island.

It was not as advertised. The outside was moldy and not kept compared to the pics. Inside was fine except for the 6roaches we killed. I’m not sure who the host was? The owner coming over several times was weird all she had to do was text/call, it was uncomfortable. We had air conditioning and hot water restrictions( we were asked to turn air off when not in cottage which made it uncomfortable. so we got used to cold showers. The power went out on the island, unavoidable, there is NO air when windows were open the cottage is engulfed by large trees and we were told not to turn air on. We asked for a fan which was a huge help. Missy said we were the last renters for the season and it showed. The gas grill was great because when we tried to use the oven the cottage smelled horrible so we turned it off. It was no where near the beach ( 235 strides not steps) and we had to walk right next the house to get to beach, if renters had been in the house it would have been extremely awkward. Advertised as a beach front estate but the cottage was not beachfront very misleading. The sliding doors were very difficult to use and the screens were just leaning against the doors which meant when air not allowed we couldn’t open the doors because of bugs etc. The beach was great!! The beach chairs and umbrella were perfect.

The Poponi Cottage ad is accurate with professional photos (2025) of interior, exterior and an aerial photo showing the entire property with villa, cottage and beach. The cottage has a beautiful, private lawn for the short walk to the beach. You chose to walk by the villa, both options were explained to you. The cottage sits on a 4 acre garden estate with over 430 ft of beach frontage, as advertised. The kitchen stove is brand new this season and guests have enjoyed using it. You never mentioned any issues with it to us during your several week stay. The sliding doors have screens that are on a track - the screens do not lean against the doors. If a screen comes off for some reason, we have fixed it immediately for you. The cottage is equipped with a large ceiling fan and an Innovator split air conditioner (36,000 BTU) which cools the studio quickly and efficiently. We do ask guests to turn the AC off when leaving the cottage. Eleuthera is an out island with a fragile electric infrastructure and we try to be mindful of this. As owners we always welcome guests when they arrive, answering any of their questions and try to stop over prior to their departure to thank them - which is what I did. I did stop by for a minute to let you know we were leaving a basket of clean linens and towels for you and where. I spoke with you on the landing and never went into the cottage. I answered all of the several dozen text messages and emails that you both sent to me over your stay. Poponi has its own water system due to the many water outages with island/city water and for our guests' comfort. There are no “hot water restrictions” mentioned anywhere and this statement makes no sense. The island did experience an extended power outage during your stay - we ran our generator the entire time for your comfort - all amenities were available - lights, refrigerator, ceiling fan, water (hot & cold), wifi, cable, TV etc. The AC will overload the generator and we explain this in Welcome information at the cottage. We brought over a floor fan for your comfort, you did not request this. We work hard to make sure our guests' experience is a positive one, and we are sorry the cottage was not a good fit for you both. We were happy that you enjoyed the beautiful Poponi beach and its amenities. Missy

We enjoyed our stay

We enjoyed our stay at Poponi Cottage. It was a short, pretty walk to the beach, and we mostly had the beach to ourselves. It was nice to have morning coffee at the sitting area in front of the beach, and watch the surf. We appreciated the outdoor shower for rinsing after swimming. The hosts, Rick and Missy, were very nice. The linens were not allergy free, as they were cleaned with detergent and/or fabric softeners with fragrance and likely other ingredients that irritate sensitive individuals, and that gave us some issue. VRBO needs to have standardized laundry policies, similar to hotels, for the products they use. (We don’t have issues with hotel linens.)

Moldy Oldie

The place has seen better days and was not cleaned well. Strong smell of mold upon entering the rental. Rather than address our concerns the owner literally argued with me and got super snarky. Never had a rental experience like this. We left the rental and did not return.

Paradise found

We searched online for an island paradise and found it on Eleuthera. Poponi Cottage is exactly as described in the posting! The accommodation is perfect for a couple. The gentle breeze in the evening means you don't need to use air conditioning. The beach is in front of the main house and a 2-minute stroll from the cottage through lush vegetation. The landscaping is well-manicured and invites leisurely evenings on the deck. The private beach is beautiful and sandy, perfect for swimming or lounging. We stayed for 10 days on this trip and hope to make it longer next year. Our host Rick was very responsive to the few requests we had because everything was set up to allow us to have a turnkey experience with just the right amount of privacy.

Our trip to Poponi Cottage was amazing! The cottage had everything we needed. It was very clean and well decorated. The kitchen was well equipped with pots, pans, utensils, basically anything you would need. The short walk down to the beach was beautiful and the property that the house is on is amazing. The beach was gorgeous and very private, we only saw a handful of people our entire trip. Communication with the host was great and we didn’t have any issues. We will definitely come back again!

It was exactly as described and from what I could tell one of the nicer locations to stay. The cottage was just enough for my fiance and I. It was so cozy and included all the amenities. The best part was the beachfront. The beach looks like the picture...perfect. We only saw a couple of people here and there on the beach making it feel like our own private beach. Missy was very kind and was available if needed. Two thumbs up!Tip: definitely rent an SUV, the secondary roads are more like trails. The island is very expensive so be prepared. Directions around the island are not great, especially the first couple of days. Lastly, the food truck next to Burrows store has amazing sandwiches and salads for decent prices.
