The Space:

Looking for that perfect condo with a modern flair and beachy vibes? Then Mauna Kai 5 may be the ideal Kauai North Shore condo for you. It has an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings in the main living area, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a light airy atmosphere. There is even a distant horizon peek-a-boo ocean view.



This recently renovated condo features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a modern great room with an up-to-date and well-equipped kitchen. There is a charming dining area plus additional seating at the kitchen bar. The main bedroom features a king-size bed while the other two bedrooms offer newly upgraded queen-size beds. Additionally, there is a queen sofa bed in the living room. The two bathrooms are updated and modern, featuring full bath and shower combos.



With beautiful tropical landscaping, you know you are in paradise as soon as you walk from your parking area to the condo. When flowers are in bloom, the air is filled with their tropical aromas. Mauna Kai also features one of the largest swimming pools of any condominium project on the island. And while out for a swim, don’t forget to bring what you need for a perfect lunch or dinner to barbecue at the poolside venue.



And location? You are a few steps from the path to the reef-protected Anini Beach, known for its calm waters, perfect for snorkeling and family fun. Nearby is the Westin Hotel. Communication with the host was very easy and any questions I had got answered promptly. I didn’t realize the property didn’t have a hot tub, just a pool. The kids were happy with the pool and the water was warm enough for them. We actually spent so much time at the nearby beaches that we didn’t spend as much time in the pool area as we thought we would so it all worked out. The A/C units and fans throughout the condo made it easy to keep the rooms at a comfortable temperature (we were there at the end of May). The kitchen is well stocked with nice pots and pans and we were able to do a lot of our own cooking to save money from eating out. The food town market is minutes away which made it easy to pick up anything we needed. Lots of walking trails around the area. We had a wonderful stay in the Princeville area and we would stay here again.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this unit. It was well maintained. The kitchen had everything we needed as far as pots, pans, serving ware and utensils. The refrigerator had an ice maker (bonus)! The bedrooms were very well appointed with comfortable beds, clean linens and clean bathrooms with plenty of towels. There were beach chairs for our beach outings. The kitchen area opened up to the family room and breakfast nook so that when we were at home we were together eating and playing games or just chatting in the open family room. That's what we love doing when not exploring the north shore, so thank you for sharing your townhome with our family.

Very comfortable condo with plenty of room for a family of four. Two teens so each had their own bedroom which is a plus on a longer vacation! The decor is cute and the beds are comfortable. The third bedroom downstairs (without the deck) got hot at night. The kitchen needs a new skillet. Otherwise great stay! The beach chairs and umbrella are an awesome touch.

The Best Week of My Life!

Kaua’i is the most beautiful island I have ever travelled to! I stayed in Mauna Kai 5 with five of my girlfriends and was delighted with the atmosphere, cleanliness and amenities provided to us. The location is perfect with easy access to Hanalei and a beach only five minutes walk away. We were greeted with sweet treats and fruit from the island. The three rooms were very spacious, with accessibility to a pull out couch and a tv with many options to choose from. The kitchen was also great for cooking, which was definitely a money saver compared to going out to eat. I would 10/10 recommend staying at this location and will be back to experience it again!

Fabulous condo

The condo is clean and has all the beach toys, etc that we needed for our stay. The pool is also nice. We felt that this condo is great value and very much enjoyed our stay here. Highly recommend!

Celebrating Christmas and new year in Kauai

Beautiful and relaxing holiday at Mauna Kai condo in Princeville. Lots of room for family of 4 (teenage kids). Very clean and well equipped. Loved Hanalei beach close by. Only very minor problem was car parking spaces.

Beautiful condo, excellent location! We loved the remodeled updated feel and lovely decor. Loved that there were plenty of towels and beach gear. every bedroom had a laundry hamper and extra fans which was great since there isn’t ac in the bedrooms. Birthday trip

Overall everything was great. It should be noted that the A/C is only a small unit in the living room upstairs and doesn’t extend to the two downstairs bedrooms. It only really gets into the upstairs bedroom if you leave the door open. There are some slots in the bedroom wall to try to let air through, but they don't help a ton. There are ceiling fans but they don't provide much relief either. There are 3 additional fans that were provided but one more would be appreciated. We gave up our fan in the upstairs bedroom to the downstairs. The kitchen is very functional which was great. There's a grocery store within walking distance which was also nice. The parking is an issue after 9/10 pm. The spots aren't assigned and the lot fills quickly at night. During the day it wasn't an issue. There is an overflow parking lot at the community center you can use that's a bit of a walk (10 minutesish) and you need a pass to park overnight. So be aware if you're coming in late you're going to have to park farther away. Since this is managed by vacasa we couldn't directly communicate with the owners which wasn't ideal since vacasa didn't seem to have any information other then the bare minimum which wasn't very helpful. Overall we would stay here again though.

Unsafe and Uncomfortable

Here are the three major areas of concern : The first area is the bathtub in the hall bath downstairs. It was reglazed and not properly finished. It needs grab bars and to be properly finished. I slipped in the tub the first time (Feb 14) I tried to used it. I really got banged up. It has really damaged my vacation and I am still suffering from my injuries. I did report it and filled out the form as well as sending photos. The second area is the AC. I am so disappointed because one of the reasons I chose the unit was because it has AC. (I have a heart condition which makes me heat sensitive.) That AC statement is not really true. There is one inline unit on the second floor in the common area. Since that is an open area with high ceilings the unit basically cools the sofa beneath it. No AC reaches the two bedrooms on the first floor or the rest of the unit on the second floor. The third area of concern is the beds. They are all too short and are really like futons. Two of the beds I couldn’t even use because there is no way I could get down too them and back up. In addition , the mattresses are insufficient. When you lie down on them, they compress so much that you are basically on the slats beneath the supposed mattress. I provided a detailed list to Vacasa as to what needed to be fixed. I hope they address the safety issues. A refund should be given.

Disappointed

I'm not sure exactly where to start. When we arrived everything seemed to be in order. However, as the week went on there were things that were affecting our stay. First, the A/C is a wall unit; it looks like it could be the original but we don't know. The outside was very dirty, which probably means that the cover has never been removed and inside cleaned of mold/mildew. The unit itself is on 2 floors (could be a problem for someone who struggles with stairs;) this bit of information was left off the description when we booked. There is no way it could cool down the space upstairs, let alone the lower level. We took the upper BR and one of the jalousie windows wouldn't even open. Another jalousie window in the main area was totally missing one of it's bottom glass louvers. The ceiling fan in the upper BR only operated on the lowest speed, which didn't give much air movement. It was hot and muggy with the temps and humidity. In the lower smaller BR there was a fan up in the corner by the ceiling. It made noise but didn't blow any air out. Our son and wife were in the BR and it had a musty odor. As far as the kitchen, the kitchen faucet moved in its location; it wasn't stationery as it should be. There was only one medium size frying pan. It had a teflon finish (not a healthy finish for cooking) that is started wearing off. It didn't sit flat on the cooktop, and the handle was loose. We did use it every day as we cooked our meals in the condo. In the bathroom downstairs there was a fan (washer/dryer was in this bathroom,) that was covered in dust/dirt that had accumulated over time. While there was a broom for sweeping up, there was no dust pan; we used a thinner piece of cardboard to sweep dirt on. As we were getting into the week (we were there a total of 9 days,) we noticed we were getting low on toilet paper, paper towels and detergent. I texted Vacasa and they sent my request to the owner, Valerie. We texted back and forth, and she informed me they don't supply again and it was our responsibility to pay for any additional items we needed. As we continued texting she asked me to send pics of some of the items I was discussing as listed above. We said we would and took pics and videos and tried to send it over and it came back undeliverable. Unfortunately, it left us with a negative feeling about our stay there. If you don't mind the humidity then you won't mind staying in this unit, but if it bothers you as it did us then this won't be a good fit for your party. I don't want to end on a totally negative note. The unit itself was furnished nicely. We did appreciate that they had sand chairs available, as well as boogie boards to use at the beach. And, the pool was quite close and our grandchildren really enjoyed spending time there. Overall, we were disappointed with the above complaints we had, and especially the way Valerie handled communicating with us, and then blocked our text back to her.
