My wife, two daughters and I rented Villas Cacao and Ginger for a week in October. We came to relax, explore, spot animals, eat good food and spend a lot of time together. This VRBO option is really amazing for what we had planned, as it was cozy, well supported by staff and located in a really lovely spot.The Caribbean coast line of Costa Rica has dozens of amazing towns, beaches, wildlife areas and nooks and crannies to uncover -- after our trip we really feel this location is ideally located.There are plenty of options for restaurants, food stores and whatever you might need. I would highly recommend this property, and they offer real flexibility based on the size of your group with the layout of their different Villas.(I would recommend that this property is best suited for travelers planning on having a rental car to explore the area -- but you can always still take a quick walk down to the local beach or jump in the pool if you don't want to drive!!)

This was our favorite place we’ve ever stayed! I’ve never been more relaxed sitting on the balcony, drinking coffee in the morning. The view is beautiful and the surrounding plants are beautiful. Everything on the property is meticulously maintained and the pool is great! I hope to return one day!

These cabins/homes are absolutely BEAUTIFUL and surrounded by gorgeous foliage as well as one of the prettiest pool areas I have ever seen!! The views of the ocean from the higher cabin on the terrace is spell bounding and so tranquil. The home is also a fairly close walk to lovely Playa punta uva. We just adored this property and the location was convenient also to small local stores and eateries.

Paradise

In the middle of beautiful jungle life and very close to many beaches. The garden was amazing and the place was very clean. Lots of restaurants and shopping a short drive away.

We arrived at night and one of my favorite memories was waking up in the morning to a view of the ocean and a plethora of plant life out my window: toucans flying through the sky and monkey's howling in the trees. This space is so gorgeous and luxurious, the pool is stunning. and communication with the property owner was smooth. I loved the area where we stayed so much, a gorgeous beach down the road and really lovely local restaurant. I liked being out of the hubbub of Puerto Viejo but a quick ride away, and just as close in the other direction to the local town of Manzanillo. It was truly a wonderful stay, highly suggest going to the Jaguar Rescue Center while visiting!

A beautiful jungle getaway!

We loved our stay here for 2 weeks! The property is incredibly well maintained, and the hosts and property managers are fabulous. The pool cabana is a highlight and the closest beach is almost private. Because you are in the jungle, you need to be okay with all the creatures that come with it. That being said, the kids loved spotting all the wildlife!

Amazing stay

We spent a week in this lovely spot. The caretakers keep the place immaculate. You will see bugs - you are in the jungle - but the fans and all the screens keep them to a minimum. We saw monkeys, huge iguanas, a sloth, macaws, and smaller parrots all from the deck. The pool area is amazing. Zvezda quickly responded to questions and made booking and staying a breeze.

Puerto Viejo Tropical Paradise

What a beautiful property! Communication with the owner was fantastic. We rented the three casitas on the property and all were perfect for our group. The grounds and pool were immaculate. The wildlife was abundant with sloths, parrots, toucans, capuchin monkeys, howlers and more. Cesar and Maribel were there for all of our needs and made us feel safe. Would highly recommend for sure!

Private yet so close to the beach!

My family and I loved the location of the property. We enjoyed the privacy of the villas and the beautiful pool area. We saw monkeys early in the morning and late afternoon while the kids swam in the pool. My son spotted a poison dart frog off the patio. There was some excitement for all ages of my family. The beach was much closer than expected and there were several sodas nearby so we didn’t get back in our car until our departure. The caretakers were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

Our stay at the property went well. We really used the property for sleeping purposes as well as breakfast prepping and did not enjoy the pool. The surrounding area is beautiful. Beaches and all were just heaven. A wonderful variation to the Guanacaste experience. only issue I would caution folks wanting to book is to have sleep masks as light does shine through 24/7, because at night there are motion sensor lighting. This is not a complain at all. I actually appreciate that being in a mountainous setting with such lush flora and fauna has lighting.

Jungle and ocean views, muy Bonita!

The location is fantastic and is walkable to the beach and some restaurants. It is a difficult walk up the hill to the villa, but who doesn’t need cardio! 4 wheel drive truck recommended. Also bring your own pillows as the ones at the villa are not very comfortable. There is no air conditioning. It does get hot but the views are worth the sometimes discomfort. Adonis and Claudia are fantastic! Can’t wait to go back again!! Thanks Zvezda!!!!

Dear Kristie. Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I’m happy that you liked it and had a good stay. In reply to couple of your comments and suggestions. It’s not needed to advise future guests to bring their own pillows. We have plenty of different sizes and firmness. All you had to do was to ask the caretakers to replace them, and contact me on this as well. In regards to the news of arriving with a 4x4. It’s very well explained at the property description at the listing that 4x4 is highly recommended. As it was disclosed that we didn’t have ACs and that the houses were property ventilated for our very humid weather with ceiling fans in each space of the houses which we keep working non-stop 24/7. And yes, our ocean views are fantastic! Thank you again. Take care and be well!

Location and Paradise Perfection

This property has been cultivated to emphasize the color and beauty of the country. Waking up and seeing ocean views framed in with jungle and vibrant floral colors was an incredible part of the overall experience staying at these villas. One villa has the ocean view with the other views of the jungle. The property is in a perfect, private and gated location that only required a short walk down to the beach, restaurants and was also a short taxi or bike ride to nearby towns. Upon arrival we were were warmly welcomed and shown around the two villas where we would be staying, the property’s pool and cabana area and communicated all the things we would need to know about our stay. The villas were clean, stylish and comfortable with the necessities provided to ensure our stay was amazing. Amazing experience overall!

Our stay at Ginger and Cacao was nothing short of magical and has easily become one of the most favorite places I’ve ever stayed in Costa Rica — and I’ve spent quite a bit of time here.The ocean view with the cozy deck, extremely abundant wildlife, and the stunning, immaculately clean pool created a feeling of total serenity. The home and property were beautifully maintained, and every detail reflected care, intention, and love. The host and caregivers were truly top-notch — warm, attentive, and thoughtful. They respected our privacy while also being available for anything we needed. Throughout our stay, we felt completely safe and secure, which allowed us to truly unwind and be present in the enjoyment of our travel experience.The aesthetic, layout, and functionality of Ginger and Cacao are exceptional — it’s a work of art, equal parts luxurious and grounding. The location is perfect: just a five-minute walk to the beach, close to town yet tucked away enough to feel peaceful, private, and deeply connected to nature — a little slice of paradise that still feels untouched and authentic.I feel incredibly blessed and grateful to have stayed somewhere so special. Ginger and Cacao is the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave. I can’t wait to return! Paradise!!

Absolutely Amazing

We loved our stay!!! The villas and surroundings are beautiful. The owner Zvezda stopped by to introduce herself and welcome us. We sat around the pool every morning and drank coffee and went back to the pool in the evenings. There were less bugs than we expected, which was nice. The jungle sounds are incredible. We slept with the windows open so we could hear everything. We saw so many critters on the property. Howler Monkeys, spider monkeys, toucans, macaws, poison dart frogs, lizards. Agoutis and lots of sloths just down on the beach (in the trees). The caretaker Cesar was so friendly and helpful. We exchanged numbers on WhatsApp and he responded right away if we needed him!!! I would definitely recommend this place.5 stars

Family vacaton

First time in costa rica. Found the property by chance on Travelocity. We were a family of 4 using the 2 houses Cacao and Ginger, which were exactly as in the pictures. The caretakers Klaudia & Adonis live onsite & are always ready to help with whatever you might need. There is a great bakery in town just 5 minutes away. Make sure you do the white water rafting, an incredible adventure. The pool was very refreshing. Sitting on the porch in the evening you could hear all sorts of wild life. We saw the biggest iguana on the property, I've ever seen, a huge yellow guy in a tree. Absolutely amazing. Howler monkey right outside the window as well. If you are looking for a jungle/beach pleace to stay, stop looking this is your place.

Loved the jungle!

This is a beautiful place, we stayed in both homes. Nice view from Cacao, and jungle view from Ginger. Being right in the jungle is a great experience and the grounds are immaculately kept. The caretakers are very personable and take good care of you. The walk to the beach is a long way down a very steep gravelly road, and long way up! For a young family or elderly people it would be a challenge. The floors in Ginger squeak very loudly when walked on in bare feet which woke up the other people in the house at night. There are no laundry facilities on the property, you can get your laundry done by the caretakers if you pay for it. There are no cleaning supplies in the homes so for a longer stay you need to pay for cleaning. The neighbors have dogs that get riled up at night and bark for long periods of time, the owner does try to deal with it but is not always successful.

Dear Tracy, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review! Due to the issues you had making the reservation, you arrived at the property already very unhappy with us. Although not our fault, we were expecting a 1-star review... I'm happy you liked our villas and surrounding nature. And thank you for your kind comment about our caretakers. They tried hard to be helpful to you, will definitely let them know. I'm surprised the walk to the beach felt long to you. It's 135 m to the main road and about 10-15 walk to the entrance of Punta Uva beach. The road, just before the first curve, has an incline of 15%, from there are 75 m to the entrance of the property. However, we are next in the Municipality plan, to have it paved with asphalt. No one from our 29 parties we hosted in Ginger since we opened at the end of 2015, has mentioned before about the squeaking floors. I haven't noticed it either. But will have it checked and if so, will see what I can do about it. Thank you for your feed back! Not sure what laundry and cleaning service charges you are mentioning as we didn't charge you for any. In the property Description page we do specify the laundry is at the caretakers' cottage. The villas Ginger and Cacao, which I purchased the with the property and remodeled, do not have the space for a laundry room. And it is in our policy that we charge for laundry services, just like any other rental place or hotels. There is indeed variety of cleaning products in the cabinets bellow the sinks, brooms and mops around the front doors. I showed all while checking you in. In addition, our caretakers which reside at the property, do provide anything our guests need for cleaning or offer help. As you remember, we did offer cleaning service and did not charge you. As we didn't charge you, regardless our policy, for permanently staining two sets of brand new white towels or for breaking the blender in villa Cacao. We didn't write you a negative review for not respecting our policies or for soaking dirty laundry in the kitchen sink in villa Cacao so we had to spend hours after you checked out to scrub and sanitize all for our next guests. We did what we had to do and left it there. Regarding the occasional dog barking. We did work it out with our neighbor. Now we have the sound of the howlers in the morning only:) Once again, thank you for your feed back! Take care and be well! Best, Zvezda
