Chef Dominique Macquet Born on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, Macquet grew up with Creole, Asian, African and Indian home-cooked dishes. Since then, his career has taken him around the world tasting, exploring and experiencing the flavors of both hemispheres. Macquet has honed his skills in locations as diverse as South Africa, London, Southeast Asia and Beverly Hills. He has cooked aboard the legendary ocean liner Queen Elizabeth II, at the James Beard Foundation, at the White House (2x) and at the U.S. Embassy in Paris. One of Macquet’s highest honors and favorite memories was cooking Nelson Mandela’s first meal outside South African prison walls. After his extensive travels, the chef chose New Orleans as the perfect stage for his ongoing culinary celebration. Following an award-winning stint as executive chef at the Bistro at the Maison de Ville, Macquet opened the eponymous “Dominique’s” at the Maison Dupuis hotel in the French Quarter which was named the “Best New Restaurant in the United States” by Esquire Magazine. There he began the process of returning to his culinary roots. Due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, Macquet temporarily relocated to Houston opening “Dominque’s” at the Marriott Westchase, receiving high accolades from multiple Texas publications. Upon returning to New Orleans, the first “Dominique’s on Magazine” was born. It was here that Macquet’s innovative combination of island flavors with the precision of French technique truly came to fruition. As his new namesake restaurant, “Dominique’s” again was named the “Best New Restaurant in the United States” by Esquire Magazine; also was named “Best New Restaurant” from New Orleans Magazine; received four stars from City Business; and a glowing Four Bean review from Brett Anderson of the Times-Picayune. In late 2011, he also opened “Tamarind,” a French-Vietnamese restaurant within the renovated Hotel Modern on Lee Circle. With all this success, the search began for a larger location – leading the chef to open the new “Dominique’s on Magazine” in the summer of 2012. New Orleans Magazine named it “Restaurant of the year.” With co-author John DeMers, Macquet has published two successful cookbooks, “Dominique’s Fresh Flavors: Cooking with Latitude in New Orleans” (Ten Speed Press) and “Tropical Latitudes” (Bright Sky Press). He explains that while he sometimes thinks of his cooking as “Tropical French,” others call it simply “latitude,” perfectly summing up the around-the-globe approach Macquet brings to every dish on the menu. I will be happy to prepare a special menu with wine pairing during your stay .

Great little place to stay in a good area. Nice and clean and perfect for our needs on the trip. The host Dominique was nice and helpful. Would 100% stay here again if I was in New Orleans
Nice spot to chill after a day out. Issues addressed with landlord were to be addressed post checkout. Great communication and very friendly. Take advantage of this chef as your host.
Ended up not even staying there. When I got there it took forever to get in touch with the host. No where on the listing was it described to be a little house in the backyard of his own house. He also had his dog running around with no leash and I am allergic to animals. Never mentioned there would be an animal on the property. Nothing in the pictures look like it in real life. The jacuzzi is on his back porch.
The property is well located, within quick walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, and boutique clothing shops. The gracious hosts, Domonique and Nella, are on site and resposive. In addition, the check-in was easy.
It was a nice location for us, myself and son very well as we enjoy the heritage and jazz festival it was a nice location for us, myself and son very well as we enjoy the heritage and jazz festival, Dominique was very helpful
We had a great vacation and this property was small, and cozy but great location. We used both available beds, the blankets on the spare bed were a little well worn and there were only a couple of towels, could have used another set. Would love to try the Hosts restaurant. I would definitely stay here again.
This little place is located close to the Magazine Street shopping area. Very quiet and secure. Simply furnished with small kitchen area that includes sink, fridge and microwave. Owners live in front house and are easily accessible and very friendly.

We only provide extra sheets on request , we would happily provide extra bedding for your stay. We had no idea that you required the sleeper sofa .The listing has a kitchenette which is listed with fridge , microwave and coffee maker
We have .. there is 2 plugs in the lounge/kitchenette area . The shower has has a railing and mat in the bathroom closet
We were available anytime during your stay and we would have been happy to answer and help with any questions or requests
This was a cute little place and served our needs well. It was a short walk to the bus and trolley. Lots of great restaurants, bars, and shops nearby on Magazine and St. Charles. The host was very friendly and quick to respond to questions/requests. The host's two dogs were very cute and friendly. The dinner Chef Dominique prepared for us was outstanding. We had a great time.
A great “foot on the ground” in New Orleans. 4 blocks from Magazine St and connections to it all. The quaint apartment is small but quite functional with the essentials. The courtyard is delightful as are the hosts. I would visit again …
I was bringing my college-aged daughter to New Orleans for the first time. We loved the location of Dominque's property. It was a couple of blocks off of Magazine St. and super quiet. He and his wife Nella were delightful. He gave us great restaurant recommendations and was very friendly. When I discovered a broken hair dryer, he replaced it that same day. We also enjoyed chatting with Domnique, Nella, and their daughter. The space we stayed in was perfect for the two of us and the bed was super comfortable.
Worth it for us. My 19 year old and I spent 3 days visiting the city. Nothing fancy, but the small apartment was convenient to getting on the St. Charles streetcar, shops and restaurants. Dominque is a gracious host who generously shared his love of food and the city and helped us find the best coffee shop (Mojo). He also signed my copy of his cookbook. We enjoyed his pups who visited us in the lovely outdoor patio. Next time we will plan for one of his cooking classes!
The host was very responsive and quick to respond on any questions I had. I loved the location because it put us in a trolley ride distance to colleges, and into the French Quarters, and just a quick walk to lots of shopping and restaurants on Magazine Street. The neighborhood was safe. It was more like a "hotel" than I expected... I did think there would be a kitchen with appliances, but it was just a sink and a microwave in the living room area. The room did smell like someone had smoked in it recently, but it was clean and stocked with towels, soaps, tp, etc. I'm not sure if the other rentals on the property were not booked while I was there, but it was very pleasantly quiet whenever we came back. Overall, very nice spot to stay to experience NOLA!

Great location but the unit had bugs.
We booked this location based on the proximity to my daughter’ location. She was about to deliver a baby and we wanted to be close. It is a great location. The issue with our stay involved the bugs. We departed after the first day as a result. We communicated to the owner to advise of our departure and the bug situation on the second day. I shared 3 images showing the two type of bugs. I say “bugs” because the owner discounted our account of the type of bugs versus the fact that we had bugs. They were on our white pillows that we brought and the only reason we could see them. The owner asked what we expected of him and I just stated whatever he thought was the right thing. After nearly a week, we have not heard from the owner. Renters be aware.

Paul sent me a picture of a mosquito on a pillow
I explained to him that I am in France and upon check in he had the info that we had the housekeeper staying on property and to please contact him . The previous guests checked out the same day Paul check in and gave the property 5 stars and commented how they enjoyed the unit . The housekeeper went in and there wasn’t any such bugs . The guests asked if they could bring their dog but they eventually didn’t . They brought their own pillows that could have had something on them . Please read previous reviews to see that we clearly try our best to give all our guests a great local experience. We will submitting this outrageous incendient to VRBO so that other hosts don’t be affected this sort of destructive comment and they document it .
As soon as I opened the door, I noticed a mold smell. The unit has inadequate ventilation with one small window in the bedroom and no window at all for the main living area and bathroom. If you enjoy your privacy, you may want to seek other accommodations. The host lives a few feet away, and the rental’s front door faces their rear deck and kitchen with a glass door. Great for keeping an eye on your tenants, not so great for them to enjoy their space. The hot tub sounded like an interesting option, but turned out to be a liability when the other VRBO tenants next door (attached unit) stayed up past midnight partying in the hot tub. That’s about 15 feet away from the bedroom window. Lame. Sure, New Orleans is a party town, but I was desperate for sleep after a 18 hour travel ordeal . Wi-Fi works sporadically. The Shower is hurting for water pressure. Sweet neighborhood, easy to park on the street.
Great location for walking Uptown. A longer but doable walk to French Quarter, or catch streetcar on St. Charles. This unit is basic (small fridge, no stove) but served our needs. The rentals set across patio from host's home. Entrance to property is gated. Looks to have plenty of street parking. We did not use hot tub on back porch--though probably should have! Request for more towels was filled while we were out. Recommended for budget stay.

About the host
Hosted by Dominique Macquet
I have lived in this wonderful city for over 20 years and am happy to call New Orleans my home. Cooking will always be my first passion. I also enjoy soccer, traveling, biking, swimming, & love the outdoors. Manchester City is my team.
I was born on the island of Mauritius, which is in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar and South Africa. I am a classically French trained chef. I grew up with Creole,Asian, African and Indian home-cooked dishes. I am also a sommelier and really enjoy white burgundies, Pinot Noirs, and Washington state red wines.
Please inquire about my availability to create a special menu during your stay, wine tasting, or a cooking class using house-grown herbs, peppers, local ingredients, & local seafood.
I have a cookbook called "Tropical Latitude". It's about cooking with the tropics from Africa to Brazil, Caribbean, Southeast Asia, New Orleans and quite a few recipes from Mauritius. If interested, I have copies at the house for $29.99.
