The El Dorado as an Art Gallery Design Concept:

Confominios El Dorado 402 is a 4th floor one-bedroom living space with a panoramic view of Playa de Los Muertos, blessed with an assortment of original iconic art on display throughout the condo.

1). Manuel Lepp original lithograph which was a gift from a friend in PV
2). Original Paris Opera poster from the mid-1930’s Paris France was purchased at an auction for original poster art years ago and after displaying it in my home in San Francisco I decided to move it to PV because it seems to personify the glamour and drama personified by The Rinantuc Zone. The side candle sconces are from Banderas Bay Art Gallery.
3) Original Frieda Kahlo lithograph designed by a local artist and purchased from her Malecon pop-up display booth on my afternoon walk.
4). Oranges oil painting, which I adore, was a gift from my realtor Lorraine Sosa who helped me remodel the condo in 2000
5). Matisse flower poster was originally from El Dorado condo 401 when I owned it briefly. It was part of the sale from the previous owner and I inherited it snd moved it to condo 402.
6). Pastoral scene oil painting in the bedroom is an original piece by a local artist purchased in a secondhand shop in the neighborhood.
7). Oval mirror with handmade Diamond-shape embossed tin frame was purchased at Banderas Bay art store.
8. Woman with pierced lips is an original acrylic piece purchased from an up-and-coming local young artist who displays in the art gallery on Pilitas street
9) Mexican cowboy in the living room is from the same gallery by the same artist as the pierced lip woman, purchased as a pair
10). Birdcage chandelier is an original handmade wrought iron piece also from Banderas Bay
11). Framed dark bark Indian peasant paintings are in a traditional style that you can find all over Puerto Vallarta souvenir shops.
12). Blue ceramic lamp in the window is an original piece assembled in Telacapache Store in downtown PV which imports art and ceramics from Telacapache Art District In Mexico City
13). The 8 golden alabaster wall sconces throughout the condo in various shapes are handmade and produced locally. Most of them are from Hecho A Mano Furniture Gallery which is sadly no longer in business.
14). Asian-inspired handcrafted teak coffee table, teak bookshelves and 2 dining chairs were imported from Thailand and purchased at Hecho a Mano.
15). Rattan arm chair and foot stool and bar chairs were handmade to order in Guadalajara and purchased at Rattan Vallarta
16). The black circular Oaxacan object de art on the display shelves was an open house gift from Lorraine Sosa
17). The devil riding a horse ceramic art piece, the jeweled framed mirror, the tin mirror sculpture and the mariachi singers are from Banderas Bay Gallery.
18). The handmade mirror in the front hallway is from Safari Accents on Olas Altos Street
19). The Mexican hardwood parrota wood custom kitchen cabinets were made locally by my contractor when I remodeled the property
20). The arched iron doors into the bedroom and arched bifold security gate doors with sandblasted glass in the hallway were custom made for me by a local craftsman and designed by Lorraine Susa to accentuate the whimsical and dark design accents that is the condominios 402 design theme. This design concept embraces international and traditional historic art trends from the past decades including art deco and art nouveau and then blended into the Mexican design vocabulary. Also please note the black tile baseboard which is a gesture to Art Nouveau detailing.
21). The tiled bathroom soaking tub was hand made by a local tile setter artist to replace an obsolete plexiglass jacuzzi tub in the same shape.
22). The natural stone dark orange-brown travertine tile used on the floors and bathroom walls ls Mexican material locally mined in the Jalisco state of Mexico. The pink grout was the idea of Lorraine Sosa.
23). The chest of drawers in the bedroom was custom made my a local carpenter in the old style which replaces sn old bureau in the same shape that got termites
23). Some of the sofa pillows are original kilim fabrics I purchased recently in in Morocco. I found that Mexican and Moroccan design styles and techniques have s lot of similarities.
23). The kitchen idk and was the design idea to give the circulation a linear flow and it was painstaking designed by Lorraine Sosa.
24). The window with s view if the beach in the bathroom was my idea sbd everyone tried to discourage me but I knew thst a condo designed for 2 guests should have a bit of romance sbd sex appeal.

You can imagine that every inch of this property is well-thought out and represents the spirit of the traditional Vallarta fishing village that I fell in love with starting with my first visit on Spring Break in 1976. The condo 402, like the El Dorado Condominium Building which was built in the early 1980s, has modern comforts of contemporary Mexico but also pays tribute to the whimsical spirit and historic flavor of the original fishing village which is affectionately called The Romantic Zone.

Please enjoy your visit to this gallery of collectibles and see then through the lens of historic preservation snd a gesture to the exuberant Mexican crafts culture. This is meant to represent the taste of the designer-owner and his tribute to the true spirit of a magical place.
