Das Mountain Getaway is a friendly and cosy place where you set the pace – whether you lie back on a comfy sofa watching a film on our enormous cinema TV, challenge your friends at pool or table tennis, or jump into the bath tub with a bottle of bubbly – we invite you to make yourself at home at The Getaway, Upper Two Floors (all 270m² of it!)

We also have the best knowledge of the local area, and there are so many cool activities to get stuck into that you won't want to leave. We have a minimum stay here because two or three days isn't nearly enough!

The chalet is massive - you'll actually be getting two of the three apartments, which have a private entrance. Both have 3 (+) bedrooms and silly amounts of cool, unique features. Think: Secret door leading to a poker & gaming lounge; hidden SNES chill area; and our fun 'Games Snug' (to name but a few);

We're flexible with sleeping arrangements - all 6 rooms have a double or king bed (with luxury Egyptian Cotton bedding, with canadian white goose down & feather pillows / duvets), and what's helpful is that most of the rooms have an extra bunk or pull out bed, so you can pop the kids in the same room together / sleep with your young kids in the same room, if desired.

I started Doug's Mountain Getaway at the age of 26, after having skied all over the world, earning money from many different means (including some comically questionable ones!)

I have been a backpacker in over 70 countries and built DMG thinking of my favourite places and most memorable times.

Tirol stole my heart 12 years ago when studying in Innsbruck, and 15 years after having run my first chalet here, I'm now lucky enough to be running the best rated lodge in the Alps! We won the Hoscar for best hostel in Austria, and were consistently the best rated for 6 years. Since then I closed it down as a hostel, spent loads more time and money on it - whilst retaining its fun charm - and focused on getting groups and families instead.

DMG is better than any normal accommodation (that's why we have unbelievable 98.7% ratings from the last 8 years).

It's in our blood to help, so if you want it, we can be there! Doug knows this valley better than almost anybody here, so is good to speak with to maximise your precious time here. You'll get his phone number / whatsapp for questions and help from him.

Why they chose this property

The location is hard to beat. It's nestled within one of Austria's most spectacular valleys, Stubaital, and surrounded by some of the country's highest peaks. It's a 10 minute drive from Innsbruck (dubbed 'the heart of the Alps'), and is abundant with adventure activities of all kinds from Olympic bobsleigh to paragliding right over the village.

The 100km+ of pistes in the valley's four main resorts are impeccably maintained. Schlick 2000 is accessible via a 15 minute walk from the chalet (or free bus), and the Stubai Glacier (snow guarantee 10 months of the year), Elfer, and Serlesbahnen are all accessible by a free shuttle bus that stops right next to the chalet.

100% snow guarantee! You can ski and snowboard at the Stubai Glacier every month of the year except July & August.

The summer activities are equally bountiful – hiking, biking, lakes, mountain carting, and rock climbing to name but a few. I've compiled a guidebook of all my favourite activities – it'll keep you busy for four weeks straight (doing 2 per day!) whatever the weather.
