About this property

Porthtowan Lodge, pet-free, short walk to beach and SW coastal path

Our beautiful holiday lodge sits at the top of Towan Valley, tucked away in a quiet corner. It has a rear terrace, front veranda and a first floor balcony that offer privacy and enable you to be in the sun all day long, or in the shade if it gets too hot. The paved terrace at the rear is a private and sheltered space ideal for outdoor meals, sunbathing and relaxing on the large corner sofa.

Porthtowan's famous sand and surf beach is just a short walk away, while village amenities include a small grocery store, children's playground, surf hire and tuition and numerous cafes and pub / restaurants including the famous Blue Bar and the Unicorn On The Beach.

Nestling in a sheltered coastal valley and designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape, the Towan Valley lodges are the ethical and responsible choice for a self-catering holiday in Cornwall. You will not be occupying a property that could be used as someone’s home.

The whole house has been refurbished in recent years and now features bathrooms with integrated WC and basin units, real wood flooring or vinyl tiles throughout. Best of all, an air source heat pump provides warm air to all rooms during the chillier days of spring, autumn and winter. Full size appliances make it ideal for a working vacation with the family, or a winter let.

The high speed fibre internet service keeps you in touch with the rest of the world at all times, and provides up to date local information and guides covering the whole of Cornwall.

The ground floor of the house is very spacious and light with three glazed doors and side windows. The lounge area has two comfortable leather sofas, coffee tables, a 49 in. Smart TV and a wide choice of reading material, games etc. The dining area has a large and sturdy oak dining set to seat 8, plus a further table for study, card games etc. The kitchen is separate and also large and well-equipped with a view to the rear and back terrace. There is also a WC on the ground floor.

The rear of the house is open right up to the roof with huge windows which greet the morning sun. A painted wood staircase leads to the first floor.

The main bedroom is also very spacious and has a delightful balcony which gets the sun for most of the day and has a lovely view over the rooftops to the surrounding countryside and down to the sea. This room has a superking size bed, plenty of drawers and a hanging rail plus a good sized en-suite shower room. Two more bedrooms offer a king size double bed and twin beds , both with storage space and hanging rails. The shared family bathroom has a full size bath with thermostatic shower mixer, plus wash basin and WC.

There is an allocated parking space just a short walk from the entrance door.

About the host

Hosted by Gordon Hathway

Host profile image
Gordon and his Norwegian wife Bodil have many years experience of owning, renting and staying in holiday homes in Cornwall, Dorset, Bristol, Cheltenham and also many places in Norway as part of our business as specialist travel agents. After 30 years living by the sea in West Dorset, in 2020 we moved to Cornwall to be close to both our adult children who live there with their own families. We think this is our ultimate destination.

Why they chose this property

We rented a house in Towan Valley several times before the opportunity arose to buy one. We jumped at the chance and chose one in the best possible location.

We especially like the Porthtowan area for many reasons, not least easy access in about 1.5 hours on the A30 from the end of the M5 at Exeter. It is also an ideal location for day excursions, with nearly all of west Cornwall from Padstow to Land's End to Fowey being at most an hour's drive away. The local area offers superb beaches, stunning scenery and endless coastal walks, plus the rich mining heritage which is always fascinating.

What makes this property unique

We especially like our house in Towan Valley because you so quickly feel at home there, whether the sun is shining outside or if you need somewhere cosy to curl up while a storm passes.

The furniture and wooden floors have been carefully chosen so that they are easy to keep clean and give the house some real character which is so often lacking in resort accommodation. We have used pictures and paintings by people we know and chosen soft furnishings than make it feel warm and welcoming at any time of year. We hope you will enjoy staying there as much as we do ourselves.
