We had a lovely holiday in beautiful village.

We had a lovely holiday in beautiful village. The cottage was very comfortable and well decorated. Unfortunately the adjacent pub was closed for holidays, but the village did have an excellent farm shop, which also has a lunchtime restaurant with superb homemade dishes and food. Highly recommended!

A gem

A top quality cottage, situated in a beautiful small quiet rural village, and right beside a lovely dog friendly pub serving great food.

We had a very relaxing two night stay in 3 The Reading Room Cottages.

We had a very relaxing two night stay in 3 The Reading Room Cottages. It was very comfortable and well furnished. It had a very homely feel and we even got the benefit of being able to sit out in the pub beers garden on the picnic tables reading books in the sunshine. Unfortunately we stayed Saturday and Sunday night which meant that the local amenities were closed so we didn't get chance to visit the local bakery that we had heard good things about. The cottage was in a very peaceful location but only a short drive from the A66 so good for getting around the local area. The cottage was lovely and warm and also felt very bright due to the large windows which you don't always get. If we were staying in the area again we would certainly consider a return trip. The pub was still closed unfortunately so not able to comment on that although we did see strong reviews for the food in the guest book.

The cottage was fine (marred only by a few missing items, e.g. the remote control for the bedroom TV, no drying rack) with a location that saw very little traffic and is a good base for deeper forays into the Yorkshire Dales (If you want to use this cottage to base bike-rides, be warned - there is no secure outside storage). The biggest let-down was the pub (one of our selection criteria) that was closed. Permanently. In fact, post-COVID many of the pubs in this area are now closed - including the (formally) excellent The Bridge Inn (at Whorlton). The saving grace was Coghlans of Barningham which had a daily shop with fresh, locally-produced goods, and a Friday night dining club (which was excellent and the high point of our stay).
