About this property

White Lea is a beautiful Dales Cottage recently transformed into a fantastic holiday home.

White Lea is a beautiful Dales Cottage recently transformed into a fantastic holiday home in Swaledale blending original features with contemporary style. Set in the perfect location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park and surrounding areas.

White Lea is brimming with character, this stunning three story, stone-built Dales Cottage sleeps 6 people and really does bring the wow factor.

Downstairs boasts a spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area. This really is the heart of the home, with sash windows, stone flagged floors, French doors with far-reaching views and a traditional wood burner for cosy nights.
The sleeping accommodation is spread across two floors, two double bedrooms on the first floor and one twin bedroom on the second floor in the attic room, with rustic beams and skylights – the perfect place to star gaze. There is a family shower room situated on the first floor and one cloakroom on the second floor. Outside there is a private patio area with a seating for 6 people. A lovely space for dining alfresco surrounded by the countryside views or just to enjoy a morning coffee amongst the dawn chorus of the relaxing birdsong. There is also a charcoal BBQ to enjoy cooking outside on in the warm summer evenings.

This Swaledale holiday home is positioned in a rural setting overlooking the views of the surrounding countryside in the village of Grinton with the slightly larger village of Reeth nearby with essential amenities. Grinton is home to one of the area’s popular pubs, The Bridge Inn, serving traditional pub food, well-kept ales and a good wine and gin menu. St Andrews Church, known locally as the Cathedral of the Dale, sits prominently at the heart of the village, a medieval church with impressive architectural features and home to many bats of an evening! The River Swale, the fastest flowing river in England, runs through Grinton and below the bridge is a wonderful spot to dip your toes after a day of hiking!

White Lea in Grinton is the perfect base for any outdoor enthusiast. There are multiple walks straight from the door. Based close to the foot of Fremington Edge, and at the base of Grinton Moor. With Calver Hill not too far away, you really are spoilt for choice. Pop in the car to explore more walks that the area is renowned for, such as the stunning Gunnerside Gill walk or the romantic walk around Kisdon and Keld from Muker. There are rare flower meadows to stroll through, dramatic quarries and of course plenty of remains of the mining industry scattered across the moors – particularly up dale.

Cycling is huge in the area, boasting some of the best cycling England has to offer. Road cyclists will love local rides such as the Tan Hill Loop – a challenging route that takes you conveniently past the Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in England or, pick up some of the climbs of the Tour de France route that came through Grinton in 2014. There are plenty of gravel and mountain bike trails to explore too, and the area is home to the largest UK Mountain Bike Enduro event held every year. A brilliant event to watch some pro mountain bikers and to join in the festivities with live bands of the evening. Grinton is also the start of the Swaledale Trail, a purpose-built off-road trail for families who wish to ride together which starts at Grinton and finishes in Keld. This is also a great trail for families with push chairs of for people with mobility issues. Just down the road from White Lea is The Dales Bike Centre, here you can hire road and mountain bikes or simply enjoy one of their ‘showstopper’ cakes in their Café and Cakery after you have earned it exploring the dale of course!

Slightly further afield are the market towns of Leyburn and Hawes, both worth a visit especially on market days. We also highly recommend the Wensleydale Cheese Factory in Hawes and the drive to Hawes via The Butter Tubs is spectacular! Also worth visiting is the Georgian Market town of Richmond. Here there are plenty of amenities and attractions including a well-maintained Castle, a Georgian Theatre and an Abbey.

The cottage benefits from oil central heating throughout in addition to the wood burner. To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed linen and towels are provided and the electric and oil is included in the rental price.

Great Cottage and Location
Really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage in the peaceful village of Grinton. A great base for exploring North Yorkshire. There are also a lot of great walks in the local vicinity and a local pub which serves decent food. Reeth is also nearby and within easy walking distance (about 3/4 mile). The parking is limited at the front of the cottage and on a bend. If you don't fancy parking here, it's not an issue as there is ample street parking on the road outside the local Church nearby. It certainly wouldn't put me off the cottage.
