We loved our stay overall. The place was beautiful and spacious, and the architectural details and lighting were lovely. There was only 1 bed, which was a little disappointing to our adult children. Other places we’ve stayed in Japan have specified if a bedroom had only mats, but this listing indicated beds in all 3 bedrooms. It was still a nice place to stay. I only mention this to suggest that the listing could be more accurate if it was clear that only bedroom 1 has a true bed.
Nice property, close to public transport or short taxi ride to points of interest. Very well stocked, friendly and accommodating manager. We enjoyed our stay!
We absolutely loved this property! It was a little far from downtown, however we used Uber and did just fine. I would recommend this property 10 out of 10.
The house was beautiful, tastefully decorated, and had all of the amenities we were looking for. The location was close to multiple bus lines, making it easier to get to all of the places we wanted to see. The beds / futon were very comfortable, and we loved the Japanese bath. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to be able to cook our meals. Close to a large grocery store and pharmacy / drug store.
We tremendously enjoyed our stay. It is a wonderfully designed and furnished traditional Japanese house, with all the latest bells and whistles and comforts. The house has all the basic necessities plus high end appliances. The heated floors in the first floor bathroom were a treat! The location was easily accessible by bus. The KOHYO grocery store a few minutes walk away had a great selection, Highly recommend this house!
This home was perfectly located in walking distance to shops & local restaurants. It was also very easy to quickly flag down a cab when we wanted to travel further away.
The home itself has been the highlight of our trip. We spent five days across Tokyo and 4 days in Osaka. But the 4 days we spent in Kyoto and enjoying this home has been the most memorable. Having the 3 rooms allowed each of our adult sons to have privacy. The primary bedroom was splended.
Everyone enjoyed the private onsen with the private, peaceful view of the garden. The radiant floors were great in the mornings. The kitchen was well stocked including a must-have coffee machine. The beautiful dinning room with lovely shoji sceens on each wall reminded me of pictures of my mom's home in Yokahama. We brought card games, so having a formal dinning table for us to gather around was just like being home.
My husband and 2 boys are really tall, 6' 2" - 6' 4". The tall ceilings & entry ways like the pictures showed made me so happy.
My only regret is that I wasn't fast enough reserving my nights and wished I had booked a whole week. I will cherish the memories we made here and took down many ideas we want to incorporate into our home when we renovate.
Thank you!
Incredible marriage of modern western life style and Japanese traditional architectural details. Very, very comfortable to live in and enjoy the history of Japanese architecture. The location is decent, in the middle of a quiet traditional neighborhood and 3 minutes walk to bus lines and grocery stores.
This is among the top five houses for travel I've made worldwide. The home has been masterfully designed with the latest modern conveniences enclosed within spaces that feel genuinely old-school Japanese. The versatile sliding doors between every room, including one to close off the stairwell, make it easy to create privacy for everyone. Visiting in January, the heated floors were a wonderful treat, though the house was quite well heated throughout. The lighting beautifully highlighted the architectural features of the high ceiling over the main entrance and hallway to the kitchen and beyond. The modern onsen in its separate room was nice. The kitchen was well equipped and the provision of coffee and teas was appreciated for the first evening's stay. This home was a wonderful "home base" for our visit to Kyoto and Osaka over a four-day period. We'll recommend it to friends and will certainly seek to stay here again if we travel to Kyoto again.
