About this property

Connemara Stone Barn on Wild Atlantic Way, walk to beach, near Aran Island Ferry

Suitable for families or for two sets of friends or for a romantic getaway, Teach na mBo is in a beautiful part of the Connemara National Park and close to the start of the Connemara Loop. The Wild Atlantic Way runs down our small lane to our local pier half a mile from the cottage, where we have one of the best views out to the Aran Islands and the cliffs of Moher.

Our large, spacious, traditional, 2 bedroom cottage, situated on our small working farm, combines the traditional cosiness of a thick-walled stone cottage with all the requirements of modern home living - including free fast fibre WiFi. PLEASE NOTE THIS PROPERTY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 5. Perfect for autumn/winter staycation or working from home change of scene.

The main living area is open-plan with wooden floors, beams and a turf-burning stove which gives off the tantalising smell of Connemara. Turf (peat) is provided. Patio doors open out onto the small paved walkway to the house and give views of the shared garden and out towards fields bounded by the traditional stone walls found in this part of Ireland.

The main living space also includes a dining table seating four. Our fully equipped, contemporary kitchen area has granite worktops and the integrated appliances you would expect from a home of this quality, including hob, fan- oven, microwave, and dishwasher. A comfortable sofa, chairs and lovely soft furnishings complete the look. A small flat-screen TV is provided with satellite freeview channels, Irish channels and a dvd/blueray player.

The wooden floor is carried through to Bedroom 1, which has a traditional cast-iron framed, Kingsize bed with hotel quality mattress, topper and all bedding. There are plenty of built-in wardrobes and a hotel-style tiled, large en-suite with bath and large, separate shower.

Bedroom 2 is accessed via a flight of steep stone steps down to a twin room - again with high quality soft furnishings and bedding. This room also has a hotel-style, tiled en-suite shower room.

There is also a US-style laundry cupboard housing a new washing machine and separate condenser dryer.

Outside there is a dedicated parking space and extra parking in the shared farm yard - access to a garden, a small paved area, a BBQ and outside eating space with table and chairs.

We have aimed to provide a home-from-home Staycation and you are welcome to help yourself to anything else you might need from our garage which contains a shared table tennis table. If available you can borrow stuff for the beach - chairs, portable BBQ, fishing nets for rock-pooling - just help yourself.

At a glance:

Sleeps 4 adults in comfort

Not suitable for children under 5.
Free super fast Fibre Wifi

Lovely getaway
Perfect spot for a quiet getaway. The property was beautifully designed and very well kept. It had great amnesties that allowed us to dine in and enjoy the wood burning stove. A short walk to the beach was also a bonus. We would definitely stay again

Very nice and calm cottage
Very nice cottage, the owners are very friendly, it's calm and the sea is only a couple of minutes away. The whole region is beautiful. A place where we might come back one day. Thank you Janet and Michael for your help and also the useful information you sent prior arrival.

A Cosy Haven!
This property is very well refurbished to accommodate four people. The kitchen is well stocked with good cooking equipment for those who prefer to eat in. The beds are very comfortable. There are two ensuite bathrooms with showers that work very well. The property is in a great location to explore West and North Connemara. It is also within easy reach of Spiddal, Barna and Galway City. We were greeted warmly by our host Janet. She gave us good suggestions about local beaches where we could swim during our trip.

Comfortable and well appointed - great base for Galway and Connemara
A really lovely stay in a converted barn/cow shed. Janet and Michael were really helpful when we needed them, and it was a great base for either East to Galway city and beyond or north to the Connemara hills on the Atlantic coast. Super little beach just 20 mins walk down the road too. Would recommend.

Lovely renovation on Wild Atlantic Coast
Clean, quiet, really nicely kitted out. Trampoline an added bonus! The 20 minute walk down to the beach was lovely but could only persuade the teenagers to do it once!

Our stay at Teach na mBo
Our first trip to Ireland and this was a great base for exploring Connemara, Galway and the Aran Islands. Janet recommended some walks and trips - in particular walks on Gorumna, Omer Island and a trip over to Inis Oirr, the smallest of the Aran Islands. Do try Kai restaurant in Galway (if you can book) - Janet suggested taking the bus in from Costcutter (great idea) and finally if you drive north to Clifden, the sky road is a must and carry on to Kylemore Abbey and stop for lunch at the Misunderstood Heron overlooking Killary Fjord.

Lovely Accommodation
Beautifully finished accommodation in a quant quiet location. Own transportation is a must. Little harbour at the end of the road and a good shop for basics the other side. Cottage is very well finished, cosy, and spacious I don't think the pictures do it justice. Large garden with outdoor furniture. The only improvement I would have would be more Delph and cutlery in kitchen, and so.e wooden spoons and more chopping boards. Whatsthete is adequate but more would be brilliant. Micke was very helpful in arrival, as was Bernie who sorted out the WiFi for us. Highly recommended location quiet but close to all attractions Salthill Beach, Aran Islands, Kylemore Abbey, Galway City, Connemara National Park..

Had a great week
The cottage was well suited to two couples and had everything we needed. It was warm and cosy. A good position for touring the surrounding areas - we visited Kylemore Abbey and Clifden, Galway City, The Cliffs of Moher, The Burren and Portumno Old Workhouse and Castle. Walked along the prom at Salthill on Sunday afternoon and spent an hour or so in the sunshine watching the locals jump of the diving platforms. If you are there in the summer there are lots of lovely beaches nearby. Lots of places to eat in the area too, although none within walking distance. We followed the recommendations of the owner and we were never disappointed. The local supermarket at the end of the road had everything we needed.

A safe haven
The cottage is absolutely beautiful with everything you require to make it home from home. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and we enjoyed exploring the Wild Atlantic Way. Janet and her pooch Riley were very few friendly. We were there during Storm Ali and despite the really high winds we were safe and cosy inside. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful and peaceful and we had one of the hottest summers on record 34°..so that helped.
The property is very comfortable and can easily take two couples or a family as both bedrooms are seperated by the main living /lounge/ kitchen area so bedrooms are at opposite ends of the cottage. They are both on-suite, making for for independent sleeping arrangements if required. The cottage is of a good high standard and both bathrooms are spotlessly clean. If you want to walk in what I think is some of the most beautiful mountains and valleys then this is the place for you. Many options of things to do from a 90 min boat trip on the Fjord with drinks and food on board or swim and relax on beaches that look like they should be in Greece with white sands and crystal clear green/blue water we have had the best 10 days here and the very best of the weather, so all in all would I come back and do it all again...ABSOLUTELY...Andy UK.

Fantastic cottage. Great location
From the moment you step through the door you feel welcome. This cottage exceeded our expectations. It’s very large for four people and is equipped with everything you need and more. The local beach is stunning lovely sand and clean water. We visited Connemara several times and Galway is a wonderful city with lots to see and do. There is always a festival on somewhere in County Galway. We understand that Janet and Michael are opening Connemara Glamping on the farm for Summer 2019 and we will be back to try a luxury safari tent - with a hot tub please!

Comfortable cottage; perfect location!
My family and I have just returned from a weeks stay here and we've had a lovely time. The cottage is well equipped, very comfortable and clean. It is ideally located for exploring the local area and there is lots to do. The owner supplied plenty of information regarding wants available in the local area. I would recommend this property.

Tastefully and thoughtfully restored.
The cottage was very comfortable and clean. We were a couple however it is spacious enough for 4 people. It is a quiet location near a beach. It wasn't beach weather and we were not in the Connemara to swim as we are from Australia. The cottage was fully equipped with modern appliances. There is a 'Costcutter' supermarket at the end of the road which adequately supplied our needs. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.
