About this property
Charming Casita Establo in Historic Eastside Area
This is a NEW MEXICO SAFE CERTIFIED property and truly one of the most lovely and walkable neighborhoods in Santa Fe. Located in the Historic Eastside, part of Casita Establo was originally the horse stable for the compound. Today the house is a centrally located base for exploring the rich history, food, arts and cultural offerings of Santa Fe. Our 2-story, 2-bedroom, 1,500 sq. ft. house is well designed for one couple, or for two individuals or two couples to share, as the bedrooms are on separate floors and each has an adjacent full bathroom.
The Casita is tastefully decorated with local artwork and artifacts and includes many amenities in the kitchen and living areas to make your stay comfortable and memorable. The first level of the classic adobe Casita has retained many traditional Santa Fe craftsman features like vigas and beam ceilings, Saltillo tile and sand-set brick floors, yet supplies all the modern conveniences you would expect to use during your stay.
The bedroom on the main floor, adjacent to the kitchen is part of the original adobe, probably from the late 1800s, and was once the property's horse stable. Our house name, Casita Establo, honors that. This bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed, full bathroom and a kiva fireplace which, unfortunately, is currently not operable. The second floor was added to the original adobe structure to make a large and open master suite which includes a king size bed and a beautifully tiled combination bath and shower. The north light in this room is absolutely exquisite year around. A full wall of multi-pane windows can be opened to captured the delightfully fresh Santa Fe air or hear song birds throughout the day. There is ample room to partake in your morning yoga or meditation practice in this tranquil, light-filled upstairs retreat.
Please note before booking there is one small step into the downstairs bedroom and the circular stairs leading to the second floor bedroom suite are rather steep.
There are two outdoor sitting areas furnished with table and chairs for your enjoyment. The cozy and private walled entry courtyard also has a gas grill BBQ for your use. A delightful rooftop deck is accessible from the upstairs master suite. Cloud watching and star gazing encouraged!
If you like to cook, you will love our well-stocked kitchen and the eclectic collection of cookbooks we encourage you to thumb through ... and use! We also have a very special book of recipes our guests have left over the years. You'll also find many useful cooking ingredients, a trove of spices, and a wide assortment of cooking pans and utensils awaiting your culinary creativity. Our kitchen, and gas BBQ, is ready for your return after shopping at the amazing Santa Fe Farmers Market just a mile away. There are also a variety of woven napkins and place mats plus many serving plates, cups and wine glasses for use throughout your stay.
Want to just curl up and read? We have the perfect spot for that! There are comfortable chairs and a leather couch in the living room situated close to the traditional kiva fireplace which unfortunately not operable. A nearby shelf is full of books that either we or our guests have left for an impromptu book exchange. Browse the shelf and if you take a book ... please leave a book. Relax and enjoy!
You will be close to so many of our favorite places to visit! Here are just a few not far from our neighborhood:
Canyon Road - 3 blocks to the galleries and restaurants.
Garcia Street Books - a beloved favorite. There is an adjacent coffee shop, Downtown Subscription, with lots of seating, local vibe and a great outdoor patio space for reading and sipping.
Museum Hill - multiple New Mexico museums all in one place and the view is breathtaking! Don't miss walking the paved labyrinth. The Museum Café is a wonderful lunch stop.
The Historic Downtown Plaza - need we say more? About a 25 minute walk from the house. Truly the heart center of Santa Fe and the gateway to shops, restaurants, hotels and museums.
Kakawa Chocolate - We LOVE this place! Amazing elixirs and chocolate delights.
The Santa Fe Farmers Market - Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Indescribable!
The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum - a must see.
Meow Wolf - a Santa Fe original that bursts with visual creativity. Make a reservation! It's a popular place - and for good reason!
The Santa Fe Society of Artists - across from Starbucks on San Francisco Street - close to the downtown Plaza. Weekends - Summer through mid-October.
This is a house our family loves and stays in regularly. We invite you to make Casita Establo your home away from home whenever you visit Santa Fe. Nuestra casa es su casa! Bienvenida!

The casita is in a neighborhood that feels very "Santa Fe" with turquoise trimmed adobe homes, coyote fencing, and mature plantings. The interior decor of the home is tastefully southwest style without going overboard. The house had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The location is close to all we wanted to see and do in Santa Fe.
We loved staying in Casita Establo for our trip to Santa Fe! Wonderful property, great size, plenty of beautiful details, and a parking spot for our car. We loved stargazing on the upper deck for our last night. The kitchen is especially stunning. Great space for our family of four, and only a short drive from the Plaza and a quick walk to the galleries of Canyon Road. We'd love to return!
We had a wonderful stay in the Casita. It was perfect for both of us. The casita has wonderful touches of art and whimsy. The beds are comfortable. Everything was top notch for an excellent home base to explore. Thank you!
We loved every minute. Absolutely beautiful and historic home with art and lots of charm and character (in a good way). We would definitely love to stay there again.
Located in a quiet residential neighborhood less than 3 minutes from downtown, this cozy casita was perfect for our needs, with two "master" bedrooms on two levels, a full kitchen, and adequate living space both inside and out. We felt fortunate to be so close to the action, yet with quiet, adult neighbors and great coffee/ bakeries/eateries nearby.
We had a wonderful time! We’re all in good shape, but I will say that the stairs are tricky with luggage. It’s very quiet and beautifully decorated! The kitchen had everything we needed and the linens were nice.
Wonderful, homey casita with everything you need, steps from Canyon Road. Just perfect!

Thank you Kathryn! We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Casita Establo. You would be a welcomed guest again if your travels bring you back to Santa Fe.
This is our fourth trip to Santa Fe in 2 years and our fourth stay a Casita Establo. We appreciate the separate spaces for bed/bathrooms and the communal areas such as the bar at the kitchen, the upper deck, the front patio courtyard, and the living room. The well supplied kitchen makes cooking fresh foods from the Farmer's Market an easy task. The neighborhood is very quiet and walkable to all of the things we love to explore.Communication with the host is excellent and she responds with any issues that arise in a timely manner. We cannot imagine staying anywhere else and are already planning our next trip!
Beautiful old casita, fascinating neighborhood architecture.
Beautifully decorated, a great base for exploring Sante Fe, especially for history buffs.
Only downside, we were there in December when the weather was cold, the furnace needs an overhaul as the house was very chilly.

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at our home and thank you for taking such good care of it. We sincerely appreciate you letting us know about the furnace because a heating issue had not been mentioned by previous guests. We took immediate steps to have a service inspection and wish we had know about this earlier in your stay! We apologize for any discomfort this caused. If your travels bring you back to Santa Fe, we hope you will again choose to stay at Casita Establo.
