About this property

Galatea - Nr Whitby , Yorkshire

In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Galatea at Whitby Lighthouse.

Galatea is one of two holiday cottages available at the lighthouse, which lies on the East Coast just outside Whitby and close to the North Yorkshire Moors.

The High Cliffs of the North Yorkshire coast hide a number of small ports, the most significant of which is Whitby. Captain James Cook was apprenticed to a Whitby shipowner and made the first of his voyages of discovery (1768-1771) in a covered Whitby built 'cat' - a small ship rigged collier renamed 'Endeavour'. Whitby's skyline is dominated by the ruins of St. Hilda's Abbey, high on Whitby's East Cliff and spreading below, a maze of alleyways and narrow streets running down to the busy quayside and harbour entrance. To the south lie the coastal villages and resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. Inland lie the heather moorlands of the North Yorkshire Moors and, further afield, York.

Additional Information:
Children and infants welcome. Travel cot and highchair available on request.
Two well-behaved dogs welcome (small additional charge).
There is no WiFi available at Galatea and very limited mobile signal.
There is an internal step within the property.
Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.
Guests are reminded they are renting a heritage building, therefore certain features such as steps, stairs and floor levels may not comply with that of a modern building. As such, we would advise guests to acquaint themselves with the premises on arrival and exercise caution accordingly.
Access roads to the lighthouse site are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.
A barbecue is not provided, however guests are welcome to bring their own, subject to adhering to the safety precautions set out in the arrival information.
Sorry, no fireworks, drones or remote controlled flying equipment are permitted.
Drivers with low axles should be aware that the site is approached via a farm track.
Sorry, charging of an electric car is not permitted.
Also on this site is Vanguard, sleeping five guests.

Amazing property in an amazing location

Lighthouse was absolutely perfect for a group pf x 3 friends to enjoy time together. What`s not to like about sea views, coastal walking and glorious sunshine ? Internally the lighthouse is tastefully themed all things "sea", comfortable and spotlessly clean. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need. Fabulous.

Toll.

A fantastic place away from it all ... but close enough to the the town of Whitby!

What a great weekend ... great weather, superb location, peaceful and relaxing, but close enough to enable a gentle stoll along the Cleveland Way to Whitby. We just had a great time, although the breeze off the North Sea was a but chilly at times! The cottage may lack wifi and has no mobile phone signal, but that just added to the feeling of "getting away from it all" ... a highly specified cottage with lots of homely touches and decoration, and the kitchen and bathrooms were top-notch.

Galatea

The property was fabulous. The view was spectacular, the cottage was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. We loved it and wished we had stayed another night. The welcome hamper was a wonderful surprise and very appreciated. Thank you. However, getting in touch with the housekeeper was a problem. We were lucky there was a lady in the other cottage and was able to get the code for us.
