By far the best VRBO experience we’ve had! The house was WONDERFUL- high end upgrades and every amenity imaginable. The view…the view…the view!Perhaps the best thing was the outstanding communication with the host, who responded to our several questions both before and during the stay - we would give the Valley View Lodge a million stars (like the sky at night on this mountain) if we could.Perfect.
My family had a great time staying at this beautiful home. There a plenty of windows to enjoy the mountain views with very comfortable chairs to enjoy the view in or to read. We thoroughly enjoyed the fireplace during the cold evenings. The mornings here are gorgeous with mist moving in and making it feel as though the home is on top of the clouds. The kitchen is beautiful as well. The bathrooms are very well equipped and tastefully done. The host was very welcoming and very generous. There is wildlife to be enjoyed and the property is located near a farm with horses and cattle. The home is very private and offers the opportunity to unwind and just appreciate nature.
It was not mentioned that someone stays under the house like in level 2 and husband swears he heard someone…. And the water smelled bad of sulfur…otherwise beautiful views and beautiful area. Very peaceful and quiet

We’re sorry you didn't have a five star experience.
No one stays or lives in the in basement. That is simply false. I don’t know what you may have heard but it was most definitely NOT someone living in the house.
We recently installed a new well. I’ll check into the water issue.
Checkin was super easy. I fell in love woth the kitchen. Every utensil, tool, dish you could imagine was available. It was absolute heaven for me. The back patio and open view of the sky shows the milkyway perfectly on a clear night and the most beaitiful sunrises you could imagine.
We enjoyed our stay The Lodge at Valley View. The house was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked. The view from the house is beautiful! The owner was easy to communicate with and sent us detailed directions and information before our stay. We would definitely stay at this house again!
My family and I had a great time staying at this property. Well off the beaten path, it provided a secluded time away with breathtaking views. I have recommended this place to friends and family and if we ever make it back this way, we will definitely stay here again.
This was our second trip to the Lodge at Valley View. We enjoyed our stay again and were so impressed with the recent renovations! Both bathrooms have been completely redone and are beautiful. We enjoyed the mountain views and serene environment. The owner was easy to communicate with as well. Our family had a wonderful trip and plan to come back again!
We stayed here during a baseball tournament for my son. This house accommodated our family, including my parents very well. It was very clean house with updated kitchen and bathrooms with amazing views. If we come back next year, we will be sure to book this house again!
Amazing location to get away from it all. Comfortable, clean, and well appointed house on a beautiful country farm. We saw deer, birds,, cows, and amazing sunrises. Perfect property for our family of 4. Will be making plans to return in the future!

So glad you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back.
My family and I had a great time in the snow. The house and property was amazing. We were able to sled in the yard around the house and in the pastures. We saw several deer in the fields each day. It had a nice fireplace to warm up.
What a wonderful place to stay! Newly renovated farm house nestled in the mountain valleys of WV. The house was immaculate, the kitchen better stocked than most and perfect for a gourmet chef. Extremely peaceful and relaxing! My family and I would definitely recommend this for a family looking to get away from it all or to enjoy nearby skiing, sledding, tubing, etc or wilderness hikes and the great outdoors in general.
Also, the Owner was very helpful and easy to communicate with should you need to reach them or wonder what was in the area.

Our weeklong stay at the lodge at valley view was wonderful - we did not want to leave! The only sounds we could hear were from nature, the views were stunning, and the house itself was more than accommodating for my family. The location of the property was central to several places we wanted to visit within a one hour drive (Swallow Falls in MD was slightly farther). We went to Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley state parks as well as Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob. We didn’t have appropriate transportation to visit the Dolly Sods, but the property is minutes from the entrance to that area. The property itself is enormous and includes a small heard of cattle as well as deer, rabbits, and several species of birds. Inside the house is clean and spacious with modern fixtures throughout. We felt welcome and at home for the entire time we were there. We will definitely return if we’re in the area again.
My wife and our family, including our children (2mo and 22mo) had the perfect getaway weekend, just what we were looking for to escape the hustle and bustle of the workweek. The property was stunningly beautiful, perfect for the occasional stroll through the fields to enjoy the mountainous backdrop. Then when the late winter weather picks up, nothing is better than settling in inside sitting in front of the fireplace!
House is very spacious, clean and the kitchen is as stocked as my kitchen at home. Would love to experience this property when the weather isn’t 10 degrees and snow covered. It’s rural so don’t expect to dine out or expect a convenience store anywhere relatively close.
My husband, our 5 year old son, and my in-laws planned our annual trip to the Smoke Hole area of West Virginia. We knew we wanted to have a private, relaxing place to stay and wow did this place deliver! It is a half mile back a private drive overlooking a beautiful valley. A large yard for our son to ride his bike and a view off the back deck that was the perfect way to start and end each day. The house was one of the cleanest I've visited through VRBO and the kitchen was the best stocked!
The location is also perfect. The Dolly Sods are right down the road and the stretch of the Potomac we rafted was only a 20 min drive away. A 45 minute drive got us to the Purple Fiddle to get dinner and see a band.
We definitely plan on coming back to this wonderful home!
Great place to relax and be in total contact with nature.
It was exactly what we were looking for. A house in a farm surrounded by mountains. The house was great and comfortable, with all the amenities necessary to spend a nice and relaxing time in the mountains of West Virginia. It was perfect. Highly recommended.
Our family of 4 had a wonderful time. Enjoyed being away from other properties. The seclusion was great! Watched the sun rise over the mountains with a nice cup of coffee on the big deck. The kitchen was the best stocked of any of the places we have stayed at over the years. Sitting out on the deck at night, WOW. The stars were amazing. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend this property to anyone looking to get away for a while. Close to Dolly Sods for hiking, and other sites are 20 to 50 minutes drive away.
What a wonderful place. My daughter loved meeting the cows. We even had to say good night to them. The kitchen is beautiful and had all the items you would ever need. Master bed was comfortable but according to the rest of the family the other two beds were not that comfortable. The views again was amazing we enjoyed walking around the property. We did not have cell services at all (which is great for us!) there was a tv with dish that helped with the little one at night, there is WiFi but we tried to stay off it the best we could. It was about an hour from everything but totally worth it.

About the host
Hosted by Don & Steve Kinser
I am a retired engineer and avid outdoor adventurer. I grew up in Northern Virginia and I've lived in the Atlanta area since 1977 when I was a freshman at Georgia Tech. I remained in Atlanta after graduating from Georgia Tech and married, started an engineering business, and raised 3 children (and now I am a grandparent). Today Nanci and I split time between our new home in Salida CO, our home on the Chattooga River in SC and the family farm in WV.
My passions include whitewater kayaking, fly fishing, hunting, skiing and just about anything out of doors.
Why they chose this property
My parents, Roland and Jean Kinser, lived and worked in the Washington DC area until 2005 (when they moved back to GA). Since I was a young boy my parents have had a "weekend" place in WV to escape the city.
Mom and Dad found The Lodge at Valley View in late 1994 after a mineral rights dispute on a property near Bayard WV motivated them to sell and look elsewhere.
It was love at first sight and they purchased the property in March 1995. The Kinser family has been making memories here ever since.
It has been a long standing tradition (since the early 1970's) that our family spends Thanksgivings togheter on our WV property(s) . We cherish these memories and look forward to that special time at Thanksgiving each year. We hope you create some memories of your own here at the Lodge at Valley View.
The name "Valley View" has a special meaning for us. "Valley View Stables" was the name of our Grandparents Tennessee Walking Horse farm in Warner Robins, GA. You will see when you arrive why "Valley View" is the perfect name for our piece of heaven in WV.
What makes this property unique
The Lodge at Valley View sits on 230 acres of beautiful WV hardwood forest at the base of the Allegheny Front. With a half mile long driveway and no road frontage, the Lodge at Valley View is extraordinarily secluded and private. The closest neighbor is a half mile away or more!
The views from the back deck are absolutely spectacular. You can hike, bike and explore without ever leaving the property or you can venture further and explore the many exciting things to do in the area.
