My husband and myself are from India, but have lived in New York City for forty years, so we are from both places. I am an author and my husband is a sculptor and architect.

Why they chose this property

We have owned this property for more than twenty years, and it is truly our magical, happy place. We love the area for its natural beauty, and its thriving artists' community. It is close to Art Omi, and a short drive to Olana House and Thomas Cole House. It is also not too far from small museum gems such as the Clarke and Norman Mailer Museums. Over the years, we have seen the region grow in sophistication and popularity - with fantastic restaurants bars, antique and lifestyle shops in the nearby towns of Hudson and Chatham.

What makes this property unique

The house was designed by my husband, an architect, completed six years ago. The three roofs of the modern house are, in his words, "paying homage to the mountains". The house, which has been published in design magazines, has unique features such as antique fruit-wood Buddhist columns on the patio, solid teak wood doors and stair risers, hand carved marble tiles and screens in the bathrooms, and at the entrance, antique wood beds from India. It is our beloved dream home, filled with our eccentric collection of art, photographs and books. We have a stone "folly" in the garden, and an Allhambra like carved marble screen with a fountain jet over it at the pool. Mostly, our guests love our home too.
