Peaceful Black Mountain Getaway Suite 20 Miles From Asheville
Welcome to our mountain basement suite!
Black Mountain is an amazing place, and we are located right in the midst of the beauty. Our home is 1 mile from downtown Black Mountain, and a very short walk to Lake Tomahawk, as well as Black Mountain Golf Course. We are a 20 minute drive from Downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance. There is an abundance of nature surrounding us, with tall trees, mountains, birds and occasional wildlife! We love this town, and hope to share it with you!
The space: The suite is located in the basement of our home with its own parking and private entrance in the back of our house. There is an outdoor space with a firepit in the side yard for you to enjoy as well. The suite is a large studio with has its own kitchenette (including a sink, mini fridge/freezer, microwave, stove top, coffee maker, kettle, blender, and toaster). There is also a garment rack, and a full private bathroom with large shower. 40” TV, Wifi and a Roku including Netflix for you to enjoy.
We are dog friendly!!! We allow up to 2 dogs at a time (at an additional cost). We also request that for liability reasons, dogs are not left indoors for more than 2 hours at a time and that they are not allowed on the furniture. We trust that if you are bringing your pet, that they are behaved and you can monitor them around our furniture, bedding, etc. We do charge a $30 pet fee for the first dog, which you'll pay for at the time of booking :) If you have two dogs, then we will send you a request for an additional $15. NO cats, sorry!
Other things to note: We do live in the upstairs portion of the home. If we are here, you are likely to hear us walking around or talking as it is an old house! However, we are very courteous of our guests and will remain as quiet as possible during your stay. We have never had complaints about this, but want to be transparent.
This is a basement and is a house in the mountains and in a heavily wooded area, therefore, depending on the season, there may be small insects/bugs that come for a visit! We do what we can to minimize this but must disclose.
The fireplace is not in use, we do have a fire pit outside you are welcome to.
Because we get a lot of rain in this area, we try to keep humidity levels in the basement down. We have a dehumidifier in there and if you like you’re welcome to empty out the reservoir to keep it running (it only fills in certain times of year). We have also added an air purifier to help with the air quality.
We take pride in our home, our VRBO, and in being hosts. We run this with a passion, and we want our space to reflect this. If you have any issues whatsoever, please let us know immediately. We have done our best to describe the property, and we do a thorough clean after every guest. If we have missed anything, please let us know. We want to provide you a 5 star worthy experience all the time!

Property was located in a quiet community, a short walk to Lake Tamarack and down town., making for nice walks with our dog.
Our bed was very comfortable and the shower was nice and hot.
Jay and Brandi were excellent hosts. I stayed for 5 weeks and I felt comfortable the entire time. They welcomed my dog as well. Since I did stay for a long time, Jay and Brandi had their house cleaner come. They did well with having clean linens and towels ready.

Great Stay!
We had a great stay in Black Mountain. Short drive to town. The unit is super cute and clean and we had everything that we needed. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Sound machine was a nice touch. The owners quickly responded when we contacted them with a question. Would highly recommend this property to others and would stay here again. thank you!

Thank you so much Kelly, hope to host you again soon!
The “peaceful mountain getaway” was just that! We enjoyed our stay in this cozy black mountain apartment. The location was quiet yet within walking distance to Lake Tomahawk ( great for me and my dog), and just a short drive to Asheville. The accommodations were clean and stocked with all necessities. Brandi was easy to contact and a great host. I will definitely stay there again in the future.
This little basement apartment is very clean, and everything I needed was supplied. I didn't have my dog with me but thought it was so thoughtful to provide dog towels and bags! Even though it is a basement it felt very bright. The bed is very comfy, extra blanket provided if needed. I felt very safe here and enjoyed my stay!

A generous rental apartment with all the amenities of home. Even though this is a basement apartment, not once did I feel that I was in a basement. Jay and Brandi have done a terrific job converting the lower level of their house into a comfortable living space. Wish I could have stayed longer.
The town of Black Mountain itself renews my spirit. To spend a few days in solitude or venturing out to do what I want was a treat. The artistic touches in the decor reminded me of my best friends’ art works. I am thankful for the Palmers’ cozy VRBO. My spirit is refreshed.
It was clean and comfortable and well supplied. Also, it had good lighting which we appreciated. Because of the basement location, there was a strong mold odor. A dehumidifier was running to work on this issue.

Covers the Basics!
A clean property which answers most everyone’s needs. The owners responded promptly to my questions. It is located on a narrow road, which has signage saying, “ Do not Enter” on one end, which was very confusing. I was always afraid I would meet another car and have nowhere to pull over. You are in the mountains, so you must understand that the roads are not wide.

Thanks for the review, Barbara. Glad you found our space clean and comfortable. I have to admit, this is the first time hearing about the “narrow streets” out of the hundreds of guests we have hosted over the years.
The narrow street you speak of is actually a “one way” street, hence the “do not enter” and the reason it’s narrow...This is why our instructions say to specifically enter from one direction. Google maps and all GPS devices are aware that it’s a one way street and so will never direct someone to drive down that st. Additionally that narrow st has allowed for full size semi trucks to drive through, tree trucks, trash trucks and heavy construction equipment too.
I’m only stating all of this because we received a 3 star review for this even though you seem to have enjoyed our actual listing and stay was pleasant. If I remember correctly we even accommodated an early check in for you. We do our best to keep our home clean and to ensure all our guests are happy, which is why we have always kept 5 star reviews.

One night stay for business
Neighborhood and house was nice. Studio with kitchen and bathroom was clean and well maintained. I received email with address, but no further information. Went to house and knocked. Was given verbal instructions to take first right, then right to basement apartment. Door had code. Nothing on email. Then owner walks outside and gives me code to door lock. Other than that, all was perfect.

Thanks for the feedback. We apologize you had a hard time finding the instructions. Communicating this with us prior to arrival would have helped so we could direct you to the VRBO messages.
The check in instructions were sent via the VRBO messages a few days prior to your arrival as we do for all our guests. They also live within the app once you confirm a booking.
These check-in instructions included very specific directions for our home, including how to get to our driveway, where to park, the code to get in, check in/check out times. In fact, looking at our messages now, these were sent to you on May 11.
Besides that, we are glad you enjoyed your stay and sorry you had a hard time finding us!
My husband and I booked a quick overnight visit to this cozy spot on the eve of picking up our sons from a nearby camp. Upon checking in, we knew it was a perfect spot for us. Clean, comfortable and equipped with all the needs for our overnight trip. The hosts added special touches to ensure guests have everything they need. It is evident that the home and hosting is a passion. Not along after arrival, we experienced some unfortunate and inconvenient set backs on our trip. Jay and Brandi were nothing short of amazing, stepping in to provide any support we could need. They offered to help in ways you might expect of a friend or family. They were gracious in so many ways. I can't speak highly enough of this home and its hosts! Thank you!
We more or less just needed a place to crash while visiting friends. The pictures do a great job of making it look a smidge bigger than it really is, but that was a non-issue for us.
Easy parking for 1 vehicle, maybe room for a second. Within a mile of some breakfast by walking, mostly via pedestrian paths (if you count the golf course). Clean. Cozy. No dog/cat/cigarette smells at all. Quiet. We barely heard them walking upstairs at all.
Their dehumidifier does need emptying quite a bit. We did it 2x in 3 nights, but it helps keep the area comfortable and not musty, which considering it is kind of a finished pseudo-basement area, is a good thing (though the dehumidifier was a bit grody inside). Oh, and if the owners read this, they should check their toilet. It was occasionally refilling on its own, so it must have a slow leak!
This property was just as described. It was very clean and comfortable. It was a nice stay for my husband and I. This was our first time staying in Black Mountain. The rental was very close to town. I saw someone was concerned with the roads to the unit but we never had issues. We are from a small town so the roads were normal for us. The one thing I would recommend is the driveway the renter uses is very rough and does need to be repaved or graveled. We were in a Jeep so it wasn't an issue for us but if we were in a car that sits lower to the ground it may have been a problem. That is not a complaint but just letting others be aware. We had no complaints. The unit was clean and comfortable for us. There were lots of extra amenities also, there was coffee, sweeteners, tea bags and snacks. Everything you could need while there was provided and some bonuses. We had a great time and if we travel in this location again I wouldn't hesitate to rent this unit again.

Why they chose this property
We visited Asheville in late 2017, not expecting to purchase a home. While here, we decided to check some real estate for the heck of it, only to soon find that we found our house and made an offer the same day. Here we are now, loving our town, taking in all of the fresh air, beautiful trees, mountains, and serenity that Black Mountain and Asheville has to offer.
Our home is one of the few mid-century ranch homes in the area, which is what drew us to it. The land surrounding the property is beautiful and offers ample privacy. Wake up to the sound of the birds every morning!
