Downieville Dreams: Steps to Biking, Swimming and Dining!
Newly renovated Victorian cottage, set in the heart of Downieville. Nestled between 2 rivers, the cottage offers a relaxing retreat. Swim, bike, fish, walk or simply watch the world go by in this Sierra goldmine town, surrounded by nature.
The space
Our family loves our cottage. In the winter there's nothing like snuggling up and sitting around the fire playing board games. In the summer it's all about the outdoors. Sit on the porch and watch the world go by, explore the Sierra's all around you, or be adventurous and try out the famous downhill mountain bike rides.
Other things to note
The cottage backs onto the hill and has a large garden extending up the mountain. There's a very small pond on the hill so watch out if you have very young kids.
The garden is terraced with dry stone walls all the way back and offers great views and walks straight up the hill. Tread with caution as the hill is steep.

Fantastic, everything was just as described. Great location and everything worked out as expected. We even had a guest appearance of 3 bears meandering thought the backyard on our first day. Great spot, great host, will definitely stay here again.
Nice house and location; had everything we needed except functional upstairs windows (also screens would have been nice on windows that did work) - hard to ventilate upstairs because of window situation.

Charming Cottage in Downieville
This is a charming home which is well located...just a couple of blocks to Main St and and an easy walk to food, drink, and the river. We found the house to be clean, not fussy, full of light and a lovely long farm table where we shared breakfast with the sun pouring in the back window. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of room. We were in Downieville for a wedding and this was the perfect home base for us.
The owners were fantastic to communicate with before our stay -- very responsive.
We were glad there was air conditioning downstairs on a warm day--and the upper rooms did cool off once the windows were opened in the evening. We couldn't figure out how to open dishwasher so we didn't use it, but we didn't cook much so hand washing wasn't a problem. The kitchen is well outfitted and the BBQ worked well. If you are planning on bringing a lot of food, the fridge is a charming period looking model, but it is on the small side so you might think about bringing a cooler. It was fine for our small group of three and we didn't cook very much so the fridge was fine for four days. Internet is good and needed because the town is spotty with cell phone coverage. We saw a lovely buck in the back yard and a black bear wandered through the back hillside one morning!

Thank you so much Kate! So glad you had a great stay at our little cottage!
We had an excellent stay in Downieville thanks to the hospitality and friendliness of our host. The house was clean, comfortable and easy to find. The host was super easy to contact and friendly. Would absolutely rent this house again and recommend it!
Super cottage in Downieville with everything you need
Our group of 7 had a fantastic stay in this cottage. We also had a 2 more drop in for drinks/dinner after the ride. Parking was easy, air conditioning was quite useful one day, kitchen is huge and big dining table for a large group. The place was clean and charming. It's just across the bridge from town so an easy walk but you don't hear any noise. Also a very short stroll to jump in the river. We would definitely rent again.
We had a great time. Wonderful house, very well maintained.

Great place and very comfortable. Very close to swimming hole.
Kitchen is well equipped and furniture is comfortable. Parking is tight but available down and across the street. The downstairs AC is appreciated on hot summer days. The upstairs is without AC and can get quite hot. Otherwise it’s a great place to hangout.

About the host
Hosted by Allison Rosdahl
We bought this home in 2018 after falling in love with Downieville over the previous few decades of visiting. We spend one week a year in Downieville at our home, and truly it is the highlight of our year. The home is owned by two brothers, Devan and Dallin, who grew up mountain biking here and have since grown to enjoy all that Downieville has to offer. You can find us when we are visiting either on our bikes high in the mountains, relaxing by the (or often in) the river (ask us about our favorite swimming holes!), or enjoying a delicious meal / drink at one of the awesome restaurants in town. We have been VRBO/Airbnb hosts since we first purchased this home, both to help us pay for the upkeep but also to share our favorite cottage in our favorite place. Since owning it, we have taken every dollar that the house has earned and invested it into the home - both because we want our guests to have a perfect visit but also because this is where we spend our summer vacations!
Why they chose this property
Easy, flat walk to everything - the river, restaurants, the bike shops, coffee shops, etc. There is nothing better in our mind than walking downtown after a long day on the bike or river to grab dinner and a drink.
What makes this property unique
This cottage is original to Downieville, thought to have been built in 1890. While it has plenty of character I would argue what really makes it unique are some of the conveniences we have added over the past few years including: air conditioning (most homes don't have this in the summer and AC is a must!), an easily accessible flat paved driveway (walk around town and you will quickly see how rare this truly is), 4 bedrooms with 2 updated bathrooms with walk-in showers, and our beautiful porch (rebuilt in 2022 w/ trex) - our favorite place for a morning coffee.
