Family reunion

Great time, great house and you can't beat the proximity to the ocean, swan river, town and West Dennis beach. We'll be back next year for sure!

Great beach vacation!

Great location for a low-key beach vacation! Easy 5 minute walk to the beach. We brought our small dog and loved the fenced in yard. The outdoor shower was great with 4 sandy kids too. All in all, great property!

Great house in Dennis

Great property 1 block from the beach. Great set up for our group of 9 including 4 adults and 5 kids. The house had all the amenities we needed (games, beach gear, etc). Ellen was very responsive with any questions or needs we had during our stay as well. We’ll happily stay here again.

Rent with caution

Unfortunately, we did not have a positive experience at this property during our stay as well as after our stay. During our week-long rental we were without natural gas for the first 4 days because it was turned off by the gas company due to an unpaid bill. The propane tank for the grill did not work and the neighbor who owned the property next door (and was friendly with the owner of this property) also verified that there was something wrong with the tank. The air conditioner was leaking so we put a cup under the AC to catch the leaking water and made sure that we cleaned up all of the water when we first noticed it; however, this is not something we would expect given the cost of this rental. We notified the owner of all of these concerns during our stay. The toilet also broke while we were staying there. A plastic piece broke off inside the tank when the toilet was flushed. We let the owner know right away that a piece inside the toilet broke and she was responsive and sent a plumber to the house. We did mention it was not an emergency, as the toilet could still be flushed manually. Yet the week following our rental, we were notified that almost half of our security deposit was being withheld to fix an old toilet that broke simply when it was flushed. The part that broke was an inexpensive plastic tank lever, yet she told us we were being charged almost half of the security deposit to fix the toilet. It is also concerning that she charged us without having the actual bill from the plumber. The owner has not been willing to return my phone calls since notifying us that she was withholding part of our security deposit. We are currently working with HomeAway to resolve this situation and are glad that we saved all of our text messages with the owner to support our concern regarding the withheld security deposit and the other problems we encountered during our stay. We have been renting in this area for the past 10 summers and have never had an experience like this during our previous years. We would not recommend this property to potential future renters given all of the concerns that we encountered.

Cape Escape

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in West Dennis. With a 4 minute walk to the beach, forgetting something back at the house was not a big deal. In fact we enjoyed not having to pack a big cooler for the beach, we simply went back to the house for lunch. I enjoyed yoga on the beach every morning, the house was spacious, and our dog enjoyed the enclosed area in the yard. Great spot to stay! Owner Ellen was very good at communicating right back when I asked a question.

Perfect stay!

Everything about this was just what we needed. A perfect long weekend getaway conveniently located. Extremely close to the beach and close enough to restaurants and shopping. It was a very nicely equipped house. Ellen was the best property owner I have been in contact with. She is very attentive to the process. The check in was as easy as it could be. The fence is great around the yard, but there is a gap between the fence and the ground. My 6 pound dog had no trouble climbing under it. It was nice to have the fence and it worked great just had to have a watchful eye. I would absolutely recommend Ellen’s place!

Short Walk to nice little beach, good space

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this house! It was my husband, myself and 3 y.o son, as well as my In Laws, and there was plenty of room for us all. It is very clean, seeming to be newly painted and spruced up. Decorated nicely. To note, it is on a fairly busy street, so you hear a lot of traffic noise during the day, not so bad at night, and honestly we did get used to it. And though it is connected to another house (a giant condo of sorts?), you would never know it. There is a small fenced in yard, perfect for our 3 y.o to run around in. The grill and picnic table are located at the head of the driveway, which is kind of a bummer as you sit right next to your car, but worked out fine. Entry is via a keypad (no keys ever) so be sure to note down the code or memorize it! AC units in all bedrooms and living room. The kitchen is small but fine, though I must note there are no spices except salt + pepper and a can of Pam in the cupboard. Also nothing like ketchup,mustard etc in the fridge. There were paper towels, but no foil or plastic baggies or anything (though I'm quite sure we might've been the 1st renters, so this might improve as people leave things?). There is a dishwasher, which is handy. There are 4 bedrooms, one downstairs is a single bed, then 3 rooms upstairs (2 queens + one room w 2 twins). Two full bathrooms, one on each floor, which is great. The beds were quite comfortable, plenty of linens and bath towels. There are no curtains in the bedrooms, just blinds, so the morning light does shine in pretty brightly, pretty early(not so fun with a toddler). There is a small-ish, nice beach that's about 5 minute walk from the house, just cross the main road, which is wonderful. There are lots of beach chairs and beach towels and an umbrella included to use. Though beach toys are included, they are kind of sparse, we actually left 2 little shovels and 2 rakes there to beef it up, otherwise there's 2 buckets and small watering can, so pack more if your kid would want more. Grocery store is about 10 mins away, we ordered pizza from Paradise Pizza down the road and it was quite good. Though the water is fine to drink, we didn't love the taste so bought some jugs to drink from. We did opt to pay $70 fee for the laundry to be done, and glad we did, bc the machines are kind of small and I don't there'd be any way we'd get it all done before check out! The host was very responsive to all my texts/emails. Would recommend to stay here!
