About this property

Beachfront ! Two steps to the sand !

This is a 2 room apt. at the rear of our beachfront home in the small town of OCEAN GATE. Good for 2 mature adults. Full kitchen, queen size bed. Smart T.V. Includes inside and outside hot water shower and shaded beachfront patio area with tables and nat. gas grill. Two kayaks that can be launched right from the beach. As little as 40 feet to the water from the patio area. One on property parking spot next to your private entrance. Beach badges included.
Patio area not shared with other renters. Just occasionally the grill with the owners.
Many towns like ours have minimum stays to cut down on short stays where large weekend parties happen. Our town has a 7 night minimum stay.
With that minimum limit we want reservations in multiples of 7 days from Saturday to Saturday. We don't want to be left with a period between bookings of less than 7 days because we will not be able to rent that shorten period because of the 7 day minimum.
All initial booking payments must be through VRBO. They require a credit card for both your protection and ours. Do not offer to send a company check.
We receive a fair number of spam requests. They seem to be computer generated with random dates and ignore our Saturday checkin. They also don’t say anything about themselves or ask questions.
So, say something. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Just a little is fine. We want to be sure we are dealing with real people.

The rental is not to be used as a base for others to use often during the day. This is not a cabana. This is not a summer day camp for children.

Vacation Gem

First time at this location and it is a very beautiful. It was especially convenient for us as first time parents with a 7 month old baby. The beach was literally right there so if we forgot something for the baby everything was at arms reach. Their outdoor seating area was perfect to enjoy breakfast/lunch and or dinner. Definitely wake up to watch the sunrise when you stay at this place.

Our first time at the location

Gus and Margaret are great hosts. The location was right on the water so it didn’t involve lugging umbrellas and beach chairs back and forth. We look forward to staying there again.

The perfect place for peace

This little gem on the water quickly became an incredibly special place. It’s a quiet town with beautiful beach and great boardwalk for walking. The owner is incredibly kind and the small space is an ideal getaway or break or retreat. I plan to return!

Wonderful, friendly, responsive hosts. For being a small apartment there is plenty of storage. Very clean. Wonderful, quiet location. Patio is a wonderful place to enjoy your meals. Calm waters are great for swimming and kayaking. Exactly the low key restful vacation I needed. Already have plans to return.

Peaceful Bay Getaway

What a peaceful and relaxing spot! This location was perfect for me. The beach is literally right outside the door, the covered patio is wonderful if the beach gets too hot, and the apartment was cozy, comfortable and spotless!! Ice cream, pizza, a corner store and a pub are right around the corner and Shoprite is only a mile away. Can't recommend this gem enough!!! I will be returning!

Perfect Waterfront Apartment in Ocean Gate, Ocean County, NJ

I was thoroughly thrilled with my visit to this perfect apartment in Ocean Gate, NJ. It is immaculate, thoughtfully appointed and maintained to perfection. There is a full kitchen, bathroom w/shower stall, bedroom with sitting area and a large closet. A smart TV is available with A+ wifi service and air conditioning. The water pressure was wonderful and the showers were refreshing. I slept very comfortably in a full-sized bed with crisp cotton linens and comfortable pillows. The neighborhood is silent at night and the landlords are very quiet when present. An off-street parking space is available, as is a clothesline, sanitation, and an immaculate outdoor shower for washing away the beach days. The absolute highlight of this apartment is the location. It is directly on the boardwalk and Ocean Gate Beach, with comfortable outdoor seating, picnic tables, lovely gardens, a gas grill and access to beach chairs and kayaks. The owners could not have been more kind or accommodating! You can enjoy the beach breezes while you watch the sun rise and set over the Barnegat Bay and Toms River. The apartment has been recently remodeled and everything is fresh, new and highly functional. Another great feature is proximity to all the local shopping, restaurants, main roads/highways, parks and taverns. Everything is about a 5 minute drive.You can't beat this location. I would recommend this property for 2 adults only, the bed and shower may feel a bit too small for XL visitors.

Great place

Excellent beachfront and boardwalk right outside your door. Relaxing, kayaks are a blast, Gus and Margret are excellent hosts. Very clean, all sheets, towels, supplied. In walking distance to local convence store, pizza place and The Anchor Inn, highly recommend eating there. Neighborhood is very friendly, enjoyed our stay. Patio is right on beach.

Perfect seaside retreat for a single person or a couple

Internship at DDR

The apartment smelled really clean when I arrived. The location was right on the boardwalk. A great locations for nice long walks along the water and still close to everything: groceries, laundromat, restaurants. The neighborhood is very quiet and the neighbors were friendly. The kitchen is equipment is very basic. I did some simple cooking and would have liked a vegetable peeler, a working can opener, a cheese grater and one baking dish. But that might not be an issue for someone coming to relax and mostly eating out. I was there for work and needed to be able to have meals ready for after long days at work. It's a nice safe place to take the kayaks out because it is not on open ocean.

Perfect Unwind

Beach heaven. The proximity to the beach and the clean, quiet accommodations were just what I needed! Everything was provided and the space was comfortable. The location is off the beaten path, but with plenty of nearby options for activity. I would not hesitate to return here!

We, Gus and Margaret, are retired. We will be here to great you and when you leave. We will be here some of the time but usually go home a little to our regular home to take of things there. So you will have lots of privacy. Even when we are here we lay low with few visitors.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this property in 1983 mostly as an investment. We rented the property as a summer/winter rental. We did this for over 30 years so we know what's important to our guests. Most of the time we rented the old fashion way. Lawn signs and newspaper adds. Later on line.
The long term goal was always to stop renting and use the place ourselves. Hurricane Sandy was just the push we needed to get there. After some serious repairs we stopped renting the main part of the home up front and now just rent the 2 room apartment in the rear.

What makes this property unique

We are right on the beach and boardwalk. The sand is 2-3 steps from the patio area. The water? Another maybe 20 steps. The beach is never crowded. Even on weekends with nice weather so social distancing is not a problem. There are many homes on the boardwalk but few have a side yard with a patio area also on the boardwalk overlooking the beach and water.
The town has a few stores only 2-3 blocks away from your rental. There is a deli/market with hot and cold sandwiches and basic items any small market would have. There is a very good pizza/Italian food place. The Anchor Inn is a classic bar/restaurant. There is a home made donuts and ice cream store.
And don't forget the two kayaks! The water is always nice and calm.
