About this property
Killington area home - 4-seasons, hot tub and A/C
Set on a private road in the forested hills just north of Pittsfield, our house welcomes you - in all seasons. Right in the heart of the Northeast’s best winter-sports, it is about 10 miles to the Killington and Pico ski resorts. Sugarbush, Okemo, and the famous Mad River Glen are all within easy reach for day trips.
Killington ski lifts are open for mountain bikers in the off season. For golfers, Vermont’s #1 public golf course, Green Mountain National, is only ten minutes away, and in addition to Killington's own course, there are a surprising number of other courses within a half hour’s drive.
The house is a comfortable and spacious (2,000+ sq.ft) three-bedroom contemporary split into four levels. It’s a perfect place to relax and have fun whether you’re on your own or with a group. With the large living area, the dining room and the den on different levels, the house caters to large numbers of people yet still affords privacy. While you soak up the heat of the big fieldstone fireplace upstairs, the gang could be watching TV or playing games downstairs.
The spacious 2-level deck on the back of the house features the most recent addiction - a 6 person spa/hot-tub for relaxing and soothing muscles after a day of hiking, biking, skiing, boarding, running... The deck adds summertime living space and is great for outdoor dining with a gas grill, charcoal BBQ and picnic table. There is also a balcony stretching across the front of the house that offers picturesque views of the forest and valley to the sound of the nearby brook.
The kitchen is big enough for family eat-in, and the dining room seats 10-12. The two upper levels are exceptionally bright and airy with high cathedral ceilings and numerous skylights.
The two bedrooms on the lower middle level sleep 4 each and share a full bath. The master bedroom on the lower ground level sleeps 5 and has its own bathroom.
In addition to the beds in the bedrooms, there is a sofa-sleeper (double) in the den and another sofa-sleeper (single) the living area. When all the beds are full to capacity, the house can take a maximum of 15 people.
Though the ski areas and golf courses are probably the main attractions, there are a number of activities available right from the doorstep. Picturesque hiking/snowshoeing trails lead straight from the house into the Green Mountain National Forest. There are other trails nearby (no need to drive) that are suitable for cross country skiing or mountain biking. And if you’re into something even more vigorous, the Vermont snowmobile trail network (VAST) is accessible from less than a half mile away. The historic Appalachian Trail network as well as the Long Trail are accessible for hiking from within a few miles away. In autumn, the area is a "leaf-peeper's" paradise (1st few weeks of October are best).
In addition to the above, there are facilities for tennis, racquetball, bungee jumping (yikes!), alpine slide, swimming, fishing streams, kayaking, tubing, music, theater, shopping, and any number of other activities nearby.
Note that this is not intended to be a "party house." Outdoor noise monitoring devices are in operation on the premises in order to help enforce quiet times and ensure peaceful enjoyment for guests and neighbors.

About the host
Hosted by David Easum
I'm probably not your average Vermont vacation home landlord. I consider myself to be from New York City, but I have lived and worked all over the world - primarily with a focus on telecommunications in Africa. Though I may have only played a small part, I can lay claim to having contributed over my 25 years in the industry to providing phone and internet connectivity services to more than half a billion people on the continent. Today that number has swelled to nearly a billion! When I first started, there were fewer telephones in the whole of Africa than in Manhattan - mobile or otherwise!
More or less retired now, I am based in Brittany (France) after having lived the previous twenty years in Holland, Congo (DRC), Spain, Egypt, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria and Togo.

Why they chose this property
I have always been a skier. I started going up to Killington from Manhattan in the early eighties, renting and organizing share houses to be able to afford the season's ski pass and the gas in my old Pontiac. On occasion, I would bring my parents along and they decided they liked the area - especially in the fall and summer. Hence the decision to buy a house there - on condition that I help defray the costs by running it as a share house in the winter.
It was great fun for many years but when I moved overseas again it was impractical to run as before. But when the online short-term vacation rental platforms took off, remote management became a possibility and so everything came back to life. I now own the house and this website has been a real benefit to keeping the place going. Though the rent never really manages to pay all the bills, I get good reviews and they encourage me to invest in making the house more and more comfortable every year.
When I'm lucky, I can occasionally squeeze in between the bookings and enjoy the place myself for a few days!
